On Friday night, Annika was swimming in Howe Sound off Bowyer Island in Canada. As Reading is the key to school success and, like any skill, it takes practice. A child learns to walk by practicing until he no longer has to think about how to put one foot in front of the other. An excellent sportsman practices until he can play quickly, correctly and without thinking. Educators call it "automaticity (自动性)".
Children learn to read by sounding out the letters and finding the meaning of the words. With automaticity, they can read faster because they don't have to think about the meaning of the words, but give all attention to the meaning of the text.
It can begin as early as the first grade. In a recent study of children in Illinois schools, Alan Rossman of Northwestern University found that automatic readers in the first grade not only read almost three times as fast as the others, but also got better results in exams.
According to Rossman, the key to automaticity is the amount (数量) of time a child spends on reading, not his IQ. Any child who spends at least 3.5 to 4 hours a week reading books, magazines or newspapers will probably reach automaticity. It can not happen if a child turns off TV just one night for reading at home.
You can test yourself by reading something new that is suitable (适合) for your level. If you read aloud with expression, with a sense of the meaning of the sentences, you are probably an automatic reader. If you read brokenly, one word at a time, without expression or meaning, you need more practice.
4."Reading is the key to school success" means that reading ________.
A. helps schools develop faster
B. is the key to a successful school
C. helps students go to a key school
D. can improve students' learning results
5.Why can children with "automaticity" read faster
A. They know how to read the words
B. They do not have to think while reading
C. They read by themselves without any help
D. They pay full attention to the meaning of the text
6.Who will possibly be an automatic reader according to Rossman
A. Anyone who turns off TV one night 4 weeks.
B. Anyone who reads books by the word quickly.
C. Anyone who spends an hour reading every day.
D. Anyone who gets the same grades as others in exams.
7.What is the best title of the text
A. IQ Is the Key to Automaticity
B. TV Is Bad for Children's Reading
C. Automaticity Depends on Practice
D. Automatic Readers Will Be Successful

Many of us love July because it's the month when nature's berries and stone fruits are in abundance. These colourful and sweet jewels from British Columbia's fields are little powerhouses of nutritional protection.
Of the common berries, strawberries are highest in vitamin C, although, because of their seeds, raspberries contain a little more protein(蛋白质), iron and zinc (not that fruits have much protein). Blueberries are particularly high in antioxidants(抗氧化物质). The yellow and orange stone fruits such as peaches are high in the carotenoids we turn into vitamin A and which are antioxidants. As for cherries(樱桃) they are so delicious who cares However, they are rich in vitamin C.
When combined with berries or slices of other fruits, frozen bananas make an excellent base for thick, cooling fruit shakes and low fat "ice cream". For this purpose, select ripe bananas for freezing as they are much sweeter. Remove the skin and place them in plastic bags or containers and freeze. If you like, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice on the bananas will prevent them turning brown. Frozen bananas will last several weeks, depending on their ripeness and the temperature of the freezer.
If you have a juicer, you can simply feed in frozen bananas and some berries or sliced fruit. Out comes a "soft-serve" creamy dessert, to be eaten right away. This makes a fun activity for a children's party; they love feeding the fruit and frozen bananas into the top of the machine and watching the ice cream come out below.
8.What does the author seem to like about cherries
A.They contain protein.
B.They are high in vitamin A.
C.They have a pleasant taste.
D.They are rich in antioxidants.
9.Why is fresh lemon juice used in freezing bananas
A.To make them smell better. B.To keep their colour.
C.To speed up their ripening. D.To improve their nutrition.
10.What is "a juicer" in the last paragraph
A.A dessert. B.A drink. C.A container. D.A machine.
11.From which is the text probably taken
A.A biology textbook. B.A health magazine.
C.A research paper. D.A travel brochure.
D
Do you ever listen to the songs that your parents like Chances are that you don't. You probably think the music that they like is old and boring and that the songs on your playlist are much cooler. But scientists found that people's music taste changes as time goes by. So it is likely that your own musical preferences will follow a similar path to your parents', whether you like it or not.
We used to think that culture and personality (个性) are the only reasons for different music choices. But researchers at the University of Cambridge noticed that as people enter into different age groups, their social environment changes, and so does their music taste. There are some musical periods that people go through in their life.
The first period comes in the teenage years, during which people like strong music such as punk and rock, because teenagers tend to be aggressive or want to be independent.
But as people move into early adulthood, their lifestyles change they want to build close relationships with others. As a result, they become fonder of contemporary music, such as pop and R&.B, which is usually uplifting and danceable.
When middle age comes, most people have settled down. During this period, people prefer music, such as jazz and classical, as well as music like country, folk and blues.
As for old people, they prefer old songs in their childhoods. They generally listen to relaxing music, such as country music and jazz music. But you must be questioning. "Aren't there old people who are still interested in or even crazy about rock music " Of course there are. But their reasons for listening to rock music may have changed. At that age people may listen to remind themselves of their youth.
12.What do young people usually think of the songs their parents enjoy
A. They are worth listening to. B. They are actually less cool.
C. They are especially serious. D. They are hard to understand.
13.How many musical periods are there that people go through in their life

D. People's Lifestyle Can Be Changed by Music

When my dear sister was four years old and I was ten, we somehow liked to play tricks on each other. But sometimes, we lost control of the tricks, which caused us to take revenge(报复) on each other.
One night, I stayed in our yard talking to my friends after Rose came into the house. When I finally got inside, I walked upstairs quietly without turning on any lights. My sister had guessed my every move and had piled chairs at the entrance of our room. Of course, I came crashing into them. My parents had fallen asleep. Afraid to wake them up, I had to bite my lip to keep from yelling when my knees were hit hard on the chair! My surprise and anger turned into a plan for revenge the next night.
So at bedtime when my sister went to brush her teeth, I turned off the lights and took out a bottle of glue. Then I poured it on her pillow. I had a vision of her waking up with the pillow all stuck to her head. But my plan was destroyed when she came in and smelled the glue. "What is on my pillow " she asked with her eyes wide open as she turned on the light. "I don't know," I said innocently. Then I started to laugh, out of breath. "Mel Ann, you are so stupid!" she said with controlled anger in her voice.
"So now if you don't want me to tell Mom and Dad that you ruined my pillow, you'll go and make me a sandwich," she added. I had to give in and answered, "Fine!" I didn't want to be grounded(限制外出). So I quietly went downstairs to the kitchen without waking my parents. But once I got there, more thoughts of revenge got the better of me. And I added hot sauce to Rose's sandwich! Rose got a hot mouthful in the first bite. So she yelled, "That's it! Now I'm telling on you!"
"No! No!" I begged her.

1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
"Okay, then you eat it!" she demanded.

I suddenly felt panicked by Rose's crying and meanwhile sorry for her.

第二节
答案:①Moving②fell③itself④which⑤learned/learnt⑥vividly⑦as⑧musicians⑨celebration⑩and
in celebration of意为“为祝……”。
⑩考查连词。between...and...意为“在……和……之间”,为固定搭配。
第三节
答案:
Dear Tom,
I'm writing to congratulate you with all my heart on your winning first prize in the Chinese Poetry Contest.
I'm amazed at your extraordinary achievement since it's difficult for a foreigner to have such a good command of Chinese poetry. You have been working hard in the past few years. It's your devotion and diligence that contribute to your success. And I'd like to have an online discussion with you sometime, where we can share each other's experience of learning Chinese poetry. I hope it could help both of us make more progress in the future.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
答案:
Paragraph 1:
“Okay, then you eat it!” she demanded. So I took a bite and instantly my mouth was on fire! I quickly and quietly went to the bathroom for a glass of water. When I returned, Rose said, “Okay, if you take one more bite, we will be even.” “All right; give it to me,” I said, feeling upset about the mess I had made. But this time when I took a bite, I almost threw up! I backed to the bathroom. Rose had put cold cream in the sandwich! I was angry and hit her hard with the pillow, which made her immediately cry.
Paragraph 2:
I suddenly felt panicked by Rose's crying and meanwhile sorry for her. I hurried to comfort her, but it was useless. She cried hard, which eventually woke our parents up. Mom came downstairs, and asked me what was going on. I had to tell the truth. Then she gave a lecture to us, especially me. From it, I learned what tricks were improper and should be avoided. I also learned I should love and take care of my sister instead of hurting her. After that night, I never played tricks on Rose again and we gradually got closer.
