Kite surfing is a sport that takes place on the surface of the water, on top of boards that are similar in design to wakeboards(尾波滑水板), with the surfer pulled by a kite. The popularity of kite surfing has grown, although it is rather difficult to master. Kite surfing uses the same equipment as kite boarding, but is generally given more to riding on top of waves, rather than on smaller lakes or other calm bodies of water.
Early experiments in kite transportation took place through the 19th century, and at the dawn of the 20th century Samuel Cody crossed the English Channel using kites and a small boat. Kite surfing itself, however, wasn't really born until the late 1970s. Beginning in that decade, more people became involved in using: kites for personal transport and sport. Kite technology itself advanced enormously during the 1970s, with kites becoming much more controllable.
The early kite surfing was rather accidental, but innovators continued to develop the technology to make it easier to control and safer. By the late 1990s, kite surfing was becoming popular off the coast of Maui, France and throughout the world. In 1997, a special kite system was built specifically for kite surfing, which helped kite surfing into the mainstream.
Because of the high speeds and the dangers, it is generally recommended that would-be kite surfers take at least a few basic classes to learn the fundamentals. The main attraction of kite surfing is the potential for amazing tricks. The kite allows the surfer to experience enormous jumps, flying through the air for large distances before hitting the water in a controlled fashion. Like skateboarding, kite surfing makes use of a number of board grabs, with complex tricks possible due to the long period of time the surfer can remain in the air.
4.What does the author mainly intend to tell us in Paragraph 1
A.What is kite surfing B.Where to go kite surfing.
C.How to enjoy kite surfing. D.Why people like kite surfing.
5.In the 19th century, people intended to use kite for _____.

B.Maui is home to kite surfing.
C.Kite control is the key to kite surfing.
D.Kite surfing came into being in the 1990s.
7.What is most charming for people surfing
A.Its potential for tricks. B.Its long time in the air.
C.Its speed across the water. D.Its big distance over the water.

When it comes to clever dogs, it's hard to imagine a faster, sharper or braver dog than Bear.
This little wonder has made himself quite famous for his special ability to smell out injured and homeless koalas(考拉)in places that just went through forest fires.
What he wasn't expecting was becoming an international superstar, attracting thousands of followers on social media(媒体)and even catching the attention of Hollywood stars Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio!
"We had special fireproof(防火的)shoes made for him to protect his feet from being hurt, " explains proud owner and wildlife campaigner Tyson Mayr, 34, who teamed up with Bear after looking for a way to help animals influenced by the forest fires.
"Bear's so strong, but the moment he gets up close and personal with a little one he's saved, he gets quite sad."
Tyson reached out to the International Fund for Animal Welfare, which directed him to the Detection Dogs for Conservation program at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, where Bear was in training.
"I'll never forget meeting Bear for the first time, looking into those beautiful blue eyes. Even today I tear up because he is the real deal, "says Tyson, adding that Bear was forced to leave his first owners because of his obsessive compulsive disorder(强迫症).
"Firsthand, I quickly saw just how much of an influence he was having. He runs for 10 km without even a drink stop, and can save up to 50 koalas in a day."

XBOX360 Kinect. RoboSapien. The Flytech Dragonfly. Wii Party. These are just a few of the games of recent times. But some of the most popular toys are quite old.
Games have been around for thousands of years. In 4000 BCE, Babylonians played a board game that was similar to chess. Yo-Yos made of stone were first used in ancient Greece around 1000 BCE. And kites appeared in China around the same time. Many of the most popular toys today appeared in the 20th century. These include Crayola Crayons which first appeared in 1903 and Monopoly which was invented in the early 1930s.
Another popular game is Scrabble. Architect(建筑师)Alfred Mosher Butts invented the game in the 1930s.At first, it was called "Lexiko" and later "Criss-Cross Words". In 1947, businessman James Brunot acquired(得到)the game, but it wasn't until 1953 when the president of Macy's discovered it that things really took off. And since then, more than 100 million sets have been sold worldwide.
As you can imagine, toys and games are a multibillion dollar industry. Mr Potato Head was made in 1952 by Hasbro's Playskool unit. It was the first toy advertised on TV, and it got more than $4 million in its first year. Play-Doh which was designed for cleaning wallpaper at first made inventor Joseph McVicker a millionaire by his 27th birthday. Mattel sells a surprising 1.5 million Barbie dolls each week(That's two dolls per second!). And Bratz dolls' global sales in 2005 were two billion dollars.
Some toys go out of date, but then become popular again. Cabbage Patch Kids were all the rage in the early 1980s and are now back as is the Rubik's Cube. Toy analysts say that parents are increasingly choosing to buy toys they remember from their own childhood.
These days, toys are getting a lot more sophisticated(精细的). RoboSapien is a robot that started to be sold in 2004.RoboSapien was designed by Mark Tilden, who once created robots for NASA. He expected the toy to be used mostly by schools and fellow scientists.
12.Why did the author talk about Crayola Crayons and Monopoly
A.To say they are based on ancient toys.
B.To explain how they were produced step by step.
C.To mark the beginnings of modern toy production.
D.To show how different countries liked different toys.
13.What role did Macy's play in the game of Scrabble
A.It sped up its invention. B.It made it sell like hot cakes.
C.It changed the name of the game. D.It experimentally put it on the market.
14.Which toy was repurposed during its development
A.Mr Potato Head. B.The Barbie doll.
C.The Bratz doll. D.Play-Doh.
15.What does the underlined part "all the rage" in Paragraph 5 mean
A.Seldom seen. B.Quite expensive.
C.Locally produced. D.Especially popular.
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Much of the work in today's world is accomplished(完成) in teams. Most people believe the best way to build a great team is to gather a group of the most talented individuals. ①_________ Companies spend millions hiring top business people. Is their money well spent
②_________ They focused on football, basketball and baseball. The results are mixed. For football and basketball, adding talented players to a team proves a good method, but only up to the point where 70% of the players are top talent; above that level, the team's performance begins to decline. Interestingly, this trend isn't evident in baseball, where additional individual talent keeps improving the team's performance.
To explain this phenomenon, the researchers explored the degree to which a good performance by a team requires its members to coordinate(协调) their actions. ③_________ In baseball, the performance of individual players is less dependent on teammates. They conclude that when task interdependence is high, team performance will suffer when there is too much talent, while individual talent will have positive effects on team performance when task interdependence is lower. If a basketball star is, for example, trying to gain a high personal point total, he may take a shot himself when it would be better to pass the ball to a teammate, affecting the team's performance. Young children learning to play team sports are often told, "There is no I in TEAM." ④_________
Another possibility is that when there is a lot of talent on a team, some players may make less effort. Just as in a game of tug-of-war(拔河比赛), whenever a person is added, everyone else pulls the rope with less force.
⑤_________ An A-team may require a balance—not just A players, but a few generous B players as well.
A. It's not a simple matter to determine the nature of talent.
B. Sports team owners spend millions of dollars attracting top talent.
C. The group interaction and its effect drew the researchers' attention.
D. Stars apparently do not follow this basic principle of sportsmanship.
E. Several recent studies examined the role of talent in the sports world.
F. Building up a dream team is more complex than simply hiring the best talent.
G. This task interdependence distinguishes baseball from football and basketball.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
We first saw the lost dog on a beach on Mahé, an island in the Seychelles, Africa. My kids, then six and eight, were building sandcastles, when he got closed and watched them. The next day he appeared on the entrance of our holiday cottage(度假屋).
My husband Farid and I thought he was looking for food, but soon realized he just wanted company. He was shy, about three years old, with orange, fox-like fur, big eyes and a longnose. We called him Chell and after five or six days of him hanging about nearby, we became friends.
We posted a message online: was there somewhere that could take him in Finally, we met Olga, a 19-year-old local with five lost dogs and a heart of gold, who agreed to take him in. Chell had only been w thus a week, but when Olga arrived and tried to move him from our cottage to her car, he refused, making himself heavy. Eventually we managed it and watched sadly as they drove off.
"Will we ever see Chell again " my elder daughter asked, crying. "I guess not," I said, not wanting to sugarcoat it. But months later, Olga phoned us to says he was moving abroad to study and would we like to take in Chell ourselves
Of course, we took Chell home. It was cod, unlike the hot Seychelles, and he was afraid of most things: climbing the sirs, our other dog Kerstin (an ill-tempered female border terrier)—he even seemed afraid of himself He’d start to play, then stop suddenly, the rush of happy emotions frightening him. This was perhaps the most heartbreaking of all: a dog who couldn’t play.

Months later, the weather turned cold and we let Chell into the yard to see his first snow. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

第三节
答案:
Dear Lucy,
Glad to hear that you are going to take a trip to China next summer holiday. Here are some suggestions about how to learn Chinese well.
First of all, it is a useful way to listen to some simple Chinese conversations daily, which will help you a lot during your trip. Besides, you'd better make some Chinese friends around you and talk to them as often as possible in Chinese. I'm sure you can speak Chinese fluently before you come to China if you insist on doing what I tell you. Finally, I will send you a Chinese-English book which contains some common Chinese characters that you should master. Try and write to me in Chinese next time.
All the best!
Yours,
Li Hua
答案:
Paragraph 1:
Months later, the weather turned cold and we let Chell into the yard to see his first snow. By now he had gained confidence and had almost doubled in size to a healthy weight. Holding our breath, we watched as he lifted his paw carefully, nervous at first. Then, suddenly, Chell began ploughing the snowy lawn with his nose, jumping around happily.
Paragraph 2:
At that moment I realized he was going to be OK. Now Chell is a beloved member of the family, being familiar with the surroundings, aside from his habit of chewing the kid's toys. He's still the same puppy that craved companionship on the beach, except now that he has our family with him, I hope he doesn't feel lonely anymore. Sometimes it occurs me that we had such great luck that we found each other on the beach. One should always be happy to find love.
