American gymnast Simone Biles flies through the air as though she were made for it. She has won more world championship gold medals than any other female gymnast in history. She is also the first woman gymnast to win more than three world all-around titles. A complicated flip(空翻) she introduced in the 2013 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships is one of four skills that are named after her, and some consider her the greatest of all time.
Athletes are under pressure, and a small mistake can result in serious injury. At the Tokyo2020 Summer Olympics, Biles experienced something gymnasts call "the twisties", which means a gymnast has no idea where his or her body is in the air. Instead of putting herself and her team at risk, Biles gave up the competition. However, she worked out in a private gym and was able to compete in the last-scheduled individual event the balance beam(平衡木), winning the bronze medal.
When she was young, Biles was raised by her grandfather Ron, and was introduced to gymnastics at the age of six on a school field trip to a gym. She saw some gymnasts practicing, began copying their moves and insisted that her parents send her on gymnastics lessons. A coach at the gym also recognized her talent and sent a letter home asking her parents to send her on lessons.
Throughout her career, Biles has kept her passion for the sport, which can be seen clearly in the huge smile she often wears while competing. But she also wants people to know the importance of putting mental health first and not ignoring how stress can influence them.
In Biles' 2016 memoir(回忆录), she wrote, "How my faith and my family made my wildest dreams come true. And how embracing a dream can give you courage to soar." Biles' ability to perform at the highest level has inspired new generations of athletes, but her willingness to be honest about her struggles inspires everyone.
4.What does Paragraph 1 mainly tell us about Biles
A. Her spirit. B. Her wide fame.
C. Her wonderful skills. D. Her great achievements.

A. She had a hard time. B. She got a gold medal.
C. She put her team at risk. D. She was seriously injured.

A. Four skills were named after her in 2013.
B. She has got the most gold medals in history.
C. She showed her talent for gymnastics at an early age.
D. Her grandfather insisted that she take gymnastics lessons.
7.Which of the following can best describe Biles
A. Determined and generous. B. Hard-working and curious.
C. Strong-willed and talented. D. Confident and warm-hearted.

Turning 18 is a big deal when you are a teenager. It means you are responsible for yourself and don't need your parents' permission any more. However, there are lots of opinions about when one becomes an adult. Some are based on science, while others are personal opinions. While currently the age is 18, science supports 25 as a more sensible age for adulthood, and I agree.
While studying the brain of teenagers, scientists have learned that when kids are around 18, their prefrontal cortex(前额皮质) is only halfway developed. The prefrontal cortex helps people set and achieve goals by receiving signals from different regions of the brain to process information and adapting accordingly. That halfway development means that you still have things to learn and your brains still have time to develop until the age of 25.
Some people think going to college and living on your own qualify you as an adult, while others may believe having a steady income and being able to afford to live on your own are what make you an adult. Not everyone has a fortunate life where they have a family that can provide support; there are situations where you are forced to become an "adult" whether you like it or not.
In the foster care(寄养照管) system, once a child turns 18, he or she is considered an adult and can no longer receive state-sponsored support, These children are forced into a life where they have no family or anyone to support them other than those who are there for them in the system.
Having a quality job will allow you to supply yourself with essential(必不可少的) things to live and help you become a more mature and responsible person. Moreover, going through difficult times and realizing that life isn't as easy as it seems should qualify someone as an adult.
8.What's the author's attitude toward considering 25 as an age for adulthood
A. Confused. B. Indifferent. C. Doubtful. D. Positive.
9.What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 3
A. Give a definition of adulthood.
B. Stress the importance of family support.
C. Prove not everyone lives a fortunate life.
D. Show opinions on becoming an adult are divided.
10.What does the underlined word "them" in Paragraph 4 refer to
A. State sponsors. B. Children in the system.
C. Workers in the system. D. Children reaching 18.
11.What is one standard of becoming an adult according to the author
A. Setting up a family.
B. Being responsible for your study.
C. Buying yourself necessary things in life.
D. Accepting and learning from the low moments in life.
D
At the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar, you may have noticed this strange scene at the beginning of each game. As the soccer players line up ready to walk onto the field they take the hand of a smiling and excited child next to them and walk out with them hand in hand.
The practice of sending children out with the players first took place from time to time throughout the 1990s. One child, also called a player escort, would accompany a team out at the beginning of an important game. From the year 2000 onwards, this custom started happening much more regularly. The 2000 Euro Championships was one of the first major soccer games where children were seen walking out with the players. But it was the 2002 FIFA World Cup where it really became popular. One of the most prominent ways this happened was by pairing up each player with a child as they walked out onto the soccer field. You can see it at the beginning of most important football games. From then on, it has become commonplace around the world for children to walk out with the players.
Ultimately soccer players walk out with a child because their club requires them to. It is in the interest of the soccer club to do this as it has potential benefits for both the child and the honor of the club. Soccer is a game that is loved by children throughout the world. Many would jump at the chance to have a taste of a real game in person. It’s also a chance for soccer club to make money. Most clubs have some sort of program where it’s possible to buy the experience of being a player escort. In England, it can be extremely expensive. A few years ago it was reported that some clubs were charging almost $800 per child to be a player escort!
12.Why did the writer mention the strange scene in the World Cup
A. To draw readers’ interest. B. To appreciate the children.
C. To show the charm of football players. D. To stress the importance of the World Cup.
13.What does the second paragraph mainly deal with about the practice
A. Its popularity. B. Its successes. C. Its hardships. D. Its development.
14.Which is closest in meaning to “prominent” in Paragraph 2
A. Effective. B. Noticeable. C. Proper. D. Difficult.
15.How does the practice benefit the player escorts
A. They can make much money.
B. They can gain great potential chance to be famous.
C. They are more likely to be chosen by their favorite clubs.
D. They are lucky enough to experience a real game by themselves.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
When Aiden asked me to go with him on a camping trip to the mountains, I thought it would mean a cottage with a wood-burning fireplace and hot chocolate. My comfortable image of camping became a nightmare(噩梦)when Aiden and his older brother, Lebron, showed up with camping supplies—tents, rolled-up sleeping bags, and canteens! I did pack a backpack as instructed, but I had no idea we were going on survival training!
Lebron had a perfect plan, and he hurried me into getting in so we could leave the busy city life behind us. Ahead, the mountains appeared bigger than I had remembered. The trees were larger, and the environment was much more dangerous, but at least the weather was amazing—cotton-candy clouds dotted the deep blue sky.
Before we began hiking, Lebron stuffed a sleeping bag into my pack and told Aiden and me about hiking rules. The first part of the road looked easy. Soon, the path became narrower and rougher, forcing me to talk less. As we went higher, I could see the road zigzagging(曲折前进) up the mountain.
"It looks closer than it is," Lebron said, reading my facial expressions. "This is the most difficult part... Watch your step, not the view. Loose rocks and tree roots make the road dangerous."
Finally, we reached the top. My legs aching, I dropped my pack and complained. "No time to rest," Lebron said, looking up at the sky. The weather had been warm all day, and it felt good to relax in the cool wind. "The weather up here changes quickly, and that cool air means a storm is around the corner. We need to set up camp."
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Paragraph 1:
I thought Lebron was kidding, but without delay they worked expertly.

Paragraph 2:
Lebron, sensing that I was scared, reached into his backpack for snacks.

答案:
Dear Lynn,
I'm sorry to learn about your problem. It's normal for your mother to worry about your new college life. Here are some suggestions.
Firstly, why not talk more with your mum Heart-to-heart talks can help you understand each other better. Secondly, you'd better learn to take care of yourself in daily life, which will definitely help prove to your mum that you are already grown-up. It would also ease her anxiety if you could share the housework with her.
I hope my advice will be of some help to you.
Yours.
Li Hua
