Thomas Alva Edison was awarded more patents(专利)on inventions than any other American. When he died in 1931,Americans wondered how they could best show their respect for him. One suggestion was that the nation observes a minute or two of total blackout. All electric power would be shut off in homes, streets, and factories.
Perhaps this suggested plan made Americans realize fully what Edison and his invention meant to them. Electric power was too important to the country. Shutting it off for even a short time would have led to complete confusion. A blackout was out of the question.
On the day of Edison's funeral, many people silently dimmed their lights. In this way they honored the man who had done more than anyone else to put the great force of electricity at his country people's fingertips.

Ever Googled yourself and found someone who has your name—and a very different life? You've just met your Googleganger.
Eve Fairbanks is a student at Yale University. Her name appeared on a few X-rated sites when her mother had Googled her out of curiosity. But that Eve Fairbanks wasn't her Eve—it was a “Googleganger”,a virtual(虚拟的)or real person with the same name.
Much like the verb “to Google” has become as familiar in our everyday language as “to search”,the term “Googleganger” has also caught on with a generation of people judged not so much by their accomplishments but how Google-able those accomplishments are.
“You are who you are because of Google,”says Matthew Slutsky,a 26 political blogger who has befriended his own Googleganger on Facebook(大学生网络社区).
For some, your Googleganger is your rival in a race to the top of the Google hit list. It can also be a source of comparison. For others,a Googleganger is a lifelong irritant(刺激剂).
Minnesota IT consultant Robert Fischer was 10 years old when “Searching for Bobby Fischer” the 1993 movie about a great chess talent, came out. It made things awkward at home—Robert's grandfather was training him to be a chess champ, too!“And here was some kid who was younger and better than I'd ever been,”he says. And now it's dashing his hopes of upping his Google rank.
At least he didn't share his name with a porn(色情)star. Fairbanks got lucky in the end. Her name was removed from the sites, thanks to Google's support team. And as it turned out, porn star Eve might not have actually existed:her name,Google told our Eve,might have been created as a marketing means to drive more traffic to the porn sites.
8.What word(s) did Eve's mother put in the Google text box for her search
A.Googleganger. B.Eve Fairbanks.
C.Yale University. D.X-rated sites.

C.how well you can use Google
D.how Google-able your accomplishments are
11.Robert Fischer now wishes to ______.
A.become a chess champ himself
B.climb higher on the Google list
C.change his name to Bobby Fischer
D.find all his Googlegangers

Long bus rides are like television shows. They have a beginning,a middle, and an end with commercials(商业广告)thrown in every three or four minutes. The commercials are unavoidable. They happen whether you want them or not. Every couple of minutes a billboard glides by outside the bus window.“Buy Super Clean Toothpaste.”“Drink Good Wet Root Beer.”“Fill up with Pacific Gas.”Only if you sleep, which is equal to turning the television set off,are you spared the unending cry of “You Need It!Buy It Now!”
The beginning of the ride is comfortable and somewhat exciting, even if you've traveled that way before. Usually some things have changed, new houses, new buildings, sometimes even a new road. The bus driver has a style of driving and it's fun to try to figure it out the first hour or so. If the driver is particularly reckless(鲁莽的)or daring, the ride can be as thrilling(惊心动魄的)as a suspense story. Will the driver pass the truck in time? Will the driver move into the right or the left hand lane? After a while,of course, the excitement dies down. Sleeping for a while helps pass the middle hours of the ride. Food always makes bus rides more interesting. But you've got to be careful of what kind of food you eat. Too much salty food can make you very thirsty between stops.
The end of the ride is somewhat like the beginning. You know it will soon be over and there's a kind of expectation and hours have passed. By now you've sat with your legs crossed, with your hands in your lap, with your hands on the armrests even with your hands crossed behind your head. The end comes just at no more ways to sit.
12.According to the passage, what do the passengers usually see when they are on a long bus trip
A.Buses on the road.
B.Films on television.
C.Advertisements on the billboards.
D.Gas stations
13.What is the purpose of this passage?________
A.To give the writer's opinion about long bus trips.
B.To persuade you to take a long bus trip.
C.To explain how bus trips and television shows differ.
D.To describe the billboards along the road.
14.The writer of this passage would probably favor
________.
A.bus drivers who aren't reckless
B.driving alone
C.a television set on the bus
D.no billboards along the road
15.The writer feels long bus rides are like TV shows because ________.
A.the commercials both on TV shows and on billboards along the road are fun
B.they both have a beginning,a middle,and an end,with commercials in between
C.the drivers are always reckless on TV shows just as they are on buses
D.both traveling and watching TV are not exciting

Last year, I was addicted to the Internet. I stayed up late at the night to surf the Internet. My grades at school become worse and worse.
My parents decided to help me. I was asked to cut down on my time spending on the Internet. However, I was able to end my online chats or concentrate on my lessons. So my parents made up their minds to take on my laptop. I was upset and angry, but finally I gave the laptop to them unwilling.
Over time, I realized that my parents had always wanted the better for me. I began to overcome my Internet addiction. Quit was harder than I had expected. So with determination, I did and turned over a new leaf.
2.become→became
3.spending→spent
4.able→unable或在was后加not
故将able改为unable 或在was后加not。
5.take后的on→away/back
根据后文“gave the laptop to them”可知,这里应表示父母要“拿走或拿回”我的电脑。take away表示“拿走” ;take back表示“拿回”。故将take后的on改为away/back。
6.unwilling→unwillingly
7.better→best
8.Quit→Quitting
9.So→But
故将So改为But。
10.did后加it
故在did后加it。
lived 52. independent 53.shoes 54. on 55.去掉 a 56. How
washing 58. 加a 59. myself 60. less
Future pens will be highly intelligent with a microcomputer in the penholder, on which stands a small screen.
When you come across an unfamiliar word, just read the word to the screen instead of referring to a dictionary, and the word will appear on the screen. On the other hand, they will sound the alarm when you make a spelling mistake, and correct the mistake by spelling the right word on the screen automatically.
Surprisingly, they are also your supervisors. When your sitting position is not correct, their red lights will be on. What's more, they can repair themselves and they are durable, which is quite environmentally friendly.
