When I first arrived in Costa Rica, I always heard people saying, “pura vida”. Translated from Spanish, it means “pure lie”. It’s used as a greeting and to describe how things are going. It can describe a person or life in general. It’s usually said with a big smile, meaning everything is good. And I heartily agree.
I consider Costa Rica to be my second home. I first went there in 2005 to help start a small family business and to this day I return often. It’s hard not to fall in love with this country. I see beautiful beaches, wild forests and breathtaking views everywhere. The wildlife is especially amazing! I never know what I’ll see right from the window of my guesthouse. It’s a country that helps me see the good in everything.
When I’m in Costa Rica, I live in Montezuma, which is on the ocean near Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve. This little town is an out-of-the way tourist destination. Getting there can be an adventure, but it’s all pura vida !
People often ask when they should visit Costa Rica. I always answer, “Do you want to come during the dry season or the green season ” The dry Season starts in December and is the perfect time to enjoy blue waters and sandy beaches. However, the sun is very strong, so use lots of sunscreen.
When the rains return in May, the green season begins. It’s the perfect time to see wildlife and so much more. I love watching wildlife so the green season is my personal favorite.
Keep an eye out at the beach. Several species of turtles (海龟) live on Costae Rica’s beaches. I suggest supporting the organizations that are working to protect by taking a tour of their nesting sites.

Elvis Presley enjoyed great success and popularity in the mid-1950s when he introduced his new style of R&.B- rock ‘n’ roll. Teenagers in America and Britain loved his rock ‘n’ roll music. The USA was the main place for popular music until 1962 when four musicians from Liverpool, England, started to perform. They were the Beatles, and they created a new form of rock ‘n’ roll music called the “Mersey Sound”. The name comes from the river Mersey in Liverpool. Soon the Beatles became very successful.
During the 1960s some young people became unsatisfied with the traditions and lifestyles of society and tried to develop those of their own. They were called “hippies”. “Hippies” wanted a world based on love of peace. So they wore flowers to show that they were peaceful. It had lots of fans and they wore strange hairstyles and ripped jeans.
The 1990s was a time for superstars like Madonna and Michael Jackson. At that time lots of different styles of music were popular, such as “rap” or “hip-bop music”,in which the lyrics are spoken, rather than sung. And hip-bop youths wore baggy pants and oversized shirts.

I was backpacking and planned to climb a volcano called Volcan Baru. At 3,474m, it is the highest peak in the country and one of the only places on Earth from where you can see the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans at the same time. It is an active volcano, but last erupted around 1550.
I set off before sunrise. It was a little cold, so I had pulled on tights under my trousers. I intended to reach the top by midday, and then return before dark to get a lift to my hotel.I’ve always felt safe travelling as a woman on my own, which I’ve done since my 20s. I love the freedom. When I got to the base of the volcano at 7 in the morning, the ranger disagreed to let me go alone, but said OK because an American couple were behind me.
The first part of the climb was beautiful. It was not dry as you might imagine a volcano might be — there were trees and flowers all around, and a dirt road for the farmers who worked around there.I walked for an hour and reached a fair height. The views were impressive, so I stopped to take a photograph.
Suddenly I heard violent barking behind me. I turned and saw two dogs running aggressively (挑衅) towards me. I expected them to stop, but they didn’t. As they got closer, I could see their teeth looked sharp, and that they looked angry. There was nowhere for me to run. I tried to keep calm, but my heart was racing. I’d never been bitten by a dog, and I couldn’t help but fear what would happen. They stopped a dozen feet from where I stood and kept barking. I knew they could move fast, so I didn’t want to try to outrun them.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Terrified, I slowly kept walking, saying, “Come on, good dogs!”

It can describe a person or life in general. It’s usually said with a big smile, meaning everything is good. And I heartily agree.

When the rains return in May, the green season begins. It’s the perfect time to see wildlife and so much more. I love watching wildlife so the green season is my personal favorite.

Their philosophy is in Bob Dylan’s song, Blowing in the Wind, which says that wars are bad for the world and will do harm to peace.
“Glam Rock“,a new form of rock music, arrived in the early 1970s. The musicians, such as David Bowie wore colorful clothes and make up, wanted to shock people. In the mid-1970s another style of music, “Punk Rock”, appeared. Punk music is a way to express the singers’ thought and anger with society.

【答案】Dear Sir,
My name is Li Hua, a Chinese exchange student studying in our high school. Having read the announcement of the calligraphy club posted online, I immediately took a profound interest in it. I’ve been practicing Chinese National Calligraphy for 10 years, and I have got first prize in the Chinese National Calligraphy Contest. What’s more, I am good at Chinese paintings as well. If I had a chance to join the club, I would set up a group for those who are interested in writing with a Chinese brush and practice it together.
I hope I will be accepted as a member of your club. Looking forward to your reply!
Yours,
Li Hua

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】参考范文
Terrified, I slowly kept walking, saying, “Come on, good dogs!” Suddenly, one dog dashed up towards me, sinking his teeth into my leg. “Oh, my God, I’m in a dog’s mouth and he’s trying to swallow me,” I thought to myself, with the pain taking my breath away as I felt his teeth in my flesh. I picked up a rock to fight him off, but was nervous that he would go for my neck or that the other one would come to attack me together. Facing these two aggressive dogs,I desperately felt at a loss. Hardly could I step out of the trouble on my own.
Just at this critical moment, a pickup appeared, driven by the ranger: Seeing the state I was in, he immediately stopped his pickup, opened the door, and signaled to me to get in. When we reached the base, he helped me bandage the leg up, earnestly reminding me that safety comes first while travelling. I felt relieved and grateful. And from then on, I travel carefully as well as cautiously. After all, nothing is more precious than life.
