Daniel Brush, an astonishing worker in gold, jewels and steel died on November 2022, aged 75. Students from a jewellery school once came to Brush’s studio, a loft in mid-Manhattan, awed to be meeting a figure who, to them, was a worker of miracles.
For 45 years in that loft, he had pursued his calling. His wife Olivia was the only company. He produced hundreds of objects of all sorts, most of them exquisite and many astonishingly small. Rather than use electricity, he laboured alone in a forest of antique machines and when tools frustrated him he made his own, displaying them in cupboards as art in themselves.
Above all else he worked in gold. His obsession took fire when at 13 he saw an Etruscan gold bowl in the Victoria and Albert Museum. The ancient technique of applying gold beads as fine as sand-grains to a curved gold surface without solder (焊接), was stunning, but so was the lightness of spirit.
He resolved then that he would make such a bowl, and gold became the study of his life. Simply to watch it melt, turn to red-hot and white-hot, then glow purple, was magical. To hold pure gold grain and let it move slowly through his fingers restored his calm of spirit. His chief motivation, he said, was to understand the material and, through that, himself. He wondered why his heart had beaten so fast in the museum that day. Gold in particular had a message for him. His contact with this glorious metal might focus all his attention and help him to hear it.
He developed delicate craftsmanship, with each object virtually a museum piece. For Daniel Brush, he loved the idea that one might take a piece made by Brush out of a pocket, let its beauty pass from mind to mind, and smile. That too was what its maker was after.
4. What can we learn about Daniel Brush
A. Students visited him regularly.
B He began to live in his loft in 1975.
C. He tended to use ancient crafts to produce objects.
D. Most objects he produced were of a surprisingly small size.
5. What is the main reason for his lifelong study of gold
A. He wanted to learn more about both gold and himself.
B. He wondered why his heart had beat fast in the museum.
C. His calm was restored when gold grain moved through fingers.
D. Gold had a particular message for him and he was eager to hear it.
6. Which of the following can best describe Daniel Brush
A. Stubborn. B. Wealthy. C. Dedicated. D. Lonely.
7. What does the author try to emphasize in the last paragraph
A. Brush’s valuable works. B. The admirers Brush expected.
C. Brush’s desire for fame. D. The artistic ideal Brush pursued.

The exhibit, Digital Dunhuang — Tales of Heaven and Earth, which was held at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, brought to Hong Kong more than 100 exhibits including the visual murals and other related programs that could allow visitors to learn about the art and history of the Mogao Caves in a fun way.
“Dunhuang was an international city, a place where East met West, on the old Silk Road. So the Mogao Caves, which were completed in a period of over 1,000 years, record the ways of life and beliefs of the different peoples that crossed paths there,” explained Fion Lin of Hong Kong Heritage Museum.
Visitors can now get up close and personal with these faraway treasures without having to step into the caves, thanks to the digitization project of the Dunhuang Academy, a pioneer that has made great progress in the digitization and 3D scanning of the Dunhuang treasures.
“Studies have shown that in a cave, both temperature and CO2 concentration level can rise with 15 tourists inside for ten minutes. As a result, the wall paintings are going to eventually fade. Digital technology has helped to strike a balance between sharing the treasures and protecting them,” said Lin.
However, digitization of the caves faces many challenges such as poor lighting and rough wall surfaces. On average, 40,000 pictures have to be taken to cover 300 m2. Great amount of efforts have been made to piece the pictures together. What the exhibition presented is the result of years of hard work.
During the exhibition period, a mini display on Dunhuang music culture was also being held at the Museum for public participation.
8. What could visitors see at the Digital Dunhuang exhibit
A. The Mogao Caves. B. About 40,000 Dunhuang pictures.
C. Digital Dunhuang wall paintings. D. Ancient records of Dunhuang.
9. What is the significance of the digitization project of the Dunhuang Academy
A. It helps Dunhuang become an international city.
B. It lets people better appreciate the Dunhuang art.
C. It is effective in cutting the CO level in the caves.
D. It attracts more tourists from East and West to Hong Kong.
10. What do we know about the Dunhuang wall paintings
A. They are brightly lit. B. They are very rough.
C. It is very hard to protect them. D. It is impossible for the tourists to see them.
11. Where can you find the evidence that supports “digitization of the caves isn’t easy”
A. In paragraph 2. B. In paragraph 3.
C In paragraph 4. D. In paragraph 5.

Now some businesses are using Artificial Intelligence as a shortcut to writing materials for them in hopes of saving time and effort. Sure, computers are great at capturing(捕捉) information and recognizing trending searches, but translating that information into an organized piece of writing designed specifically for you Not so much.
Your job as a business owner is to connect with your customers. To show them you “see” them, understand them, and you can deliver. You want to reach your clients not just by showing calculated content that shows you are relevant. The job of AI is to skim the surface and bring you back keywords and phrases that are, well, robotic. However, through the complexities of human thought and emotion, human content writers far surpass AI in choosing just the right words that can touch and attract other humans.
People who use AI to generate their writing materials might think it will save them time, but the opposite ends up being true. We’re all been in situations where we take a shortcut to save time, and it ends up creating more work. The same goes for using AI for writing. For example, it captures a lot of the top-ranking content for you to slap onto your blog, but you then have to go back and figure out how to transform that forced content into your business’s voice, style and tone. It’s like someone giving you a pair of pants. Yay! Pants! But they are not your size or color, so you spend even more time mending them and trying to talk yourself into liking them than the time you would have spent just getting the pants for yourself.
AI has had much more success in fields such as manufacturing and technology. For now, there isn’t any AI writer software sophisticated (水平高的) and creative enough to sound just like a human.
But humans do have limitations and AI writers can work with writers as an aid. You can imagine AI that could do your research for writing a white paper, or fact check for you. These types of tools could be incredible time-saving tools for writers in the future.
12. Which of the following is closest to the underlined words “surpass” in paragraph 2
A. Overlook. B. Overmatch.
C. Satisfy. D. Replace.
13. How does the author present his opinion in Paragraph 3
A. By listing figures. B. By giving an example.
C. By analyzing causes. D. By making predictions.
14. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about
A. The limitation of AI writing. B. The debates about AI writing.
C. The expectation of AI writing. D. A theoretical basis behind AI writing.
15. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text
A. What Are Artificial Intelligence writers
B. Why is AI Applied to Content Writing
C. How Does an AI Content Writer Work
D. Will Artificial Intelligence Replace Real Writers

Tim Robinson, a former junior officer in the British Army, slipped (滑倒) on a seaweed-covered rock while walking on the beach under Golden Cap one Saturday afternoon. It was a terrible fall and he broke his right leg.
Unfortunately, Tim didn’t bring his cell phone with him, and no one was in sight. His wife was in Seatown Hotel, where the couple were staying while on holiday. He had told his wife that he would be back in two hours.
As water levels were rising, there was a possibility of being killed by car-sized rocks falling from the cliff (悬崖). So Tim thought that he had to get off the beach instead of waiting there for help. He found a small branch on the beach and used it as a support. After struggling along the beach for a while, the pain became too much to handle. He stopped and thought about what else he could do.
With no phone and no one around, and with his leg hurting badly, Tim had a difficult decision to make. He could either continue this way in pain and hope that someone happened to see him, or he could try something else. Unable to walk,Tim thought he still had the ability to crawl (爬行), and so he did.
Making such a choice had been easy, but the crawling was tough. After crawling for almost two hours, it was getting dark, so Tim started flashing his torch (手电) to signal SOS and swung it around his head to attract attention. There was no response to begin with, so he crawled for five minutes and covered about 50 meters before making the same signal three times.
No one seemed to be around. Once again, he had to either stay where he was and wait for help or get moving. In his mind he had no choice. Most people couldn’t imagine crawling for any great distance with a broken leg, but Tim wasn’t t about to give up.

A. By listing figures. B. By giving an example.
C. By analyzing causes. D. By making predictions.
14. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about
A. The limitation of AI writing. B. The debates about AI writing.
C. The expectation of AI writing. D. A theoretical basis behind AI writing.
15. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text
A. What Are Artificial Intelligence writers
B. Why is AI Applied to Content Writing
C. How Does an AI Content Writer Work
D. Will Artificial Intelligence Replace Real Writers
B 13. B 14. C 15. D

根据第二段最后一句中的“through the complexities of human thought and emotion(通过人类复杂的思想和情感)”和“in choosing just the right words that can touch and attract other humans.(在选择恰当的词语来打动和吸引其他人方面)”可推知,人类思想情感具有复杂性,在选择能够打动并吸引其他人的正确词语方面远远超过人工智能。
根据第三段第二句和第三句“We’re all been in situations where we take a shortcut to save time, and it ends up creating more work. The same goes for using AI for writing.(我们都遇到过这样的情况:我们为了节省时间而走捷径,结果却创造了更多的工作。使用人工智能写作也是如此。)”以及第四句“For example, it captures a lot of the top-ranking content for you to slap onto your blog, but you then have to go back and figure out how to transform that forced content into your business’s voice, style and tone.(例如,它捕获了许多排名靠前的内容,让你把它们放到你的博客上,但你必须回过头来,弄清楚如何将这些被迫的内容转化为你的业务声音、风格和语气。)”
根据最后一段最后两句“You can imagine AI that could do your research for writing a white paper, or fact check for you. These types of tools could be incredible time-saving tools for writers in the future.(你可以想象人工智能可以为你写白皮书做研究,或者为你做事实核查。这些类型的工具在未来可以为作者节省大量时间。)”可知,最后一段主要是讲AI写作的前景。故选C。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段中“Now some businesses are using Artificial Intelligence as a shortcut to writing materials for them in hopes of saving time and effort. Sure, computers are great at capturing information and recognizing trending searches, but translating that information into an organized piece of writing designed specifically for you Not so much.(现在,一些企业正在使用人工智能作为为他们撰写材料的捷径,希望节省时间和精力。当然,计算机在捕捉信息和识别趋势搜索方面很出色,但在将这些信息翻译成专门为你设计的有组织的文章方面呢?并没那么好。)”和最后一段中“But humans do have limitations and AI writers can work with writers as an aid.(但人类确实有局限性,人工智能作家可以作为作家的辅助。)”

not...until... It + is/was not until...+ that + 句子其它部分。分析句子可知,句中使用了该强调句型,强调的是原句时间状语“not until the Ming and Qing dynasties”,句子其它部分只能由that引出。故填that。
提示词make是分句谓语动词,与主语they之间是被动关系,在情态动词can后助动词用原形be;be made of...“由……制成”。故填be made。
故填or。
故填in。

Should students make friends online Some people say yes. The internet helps make many friends. Chatting online, students can more freely express their feelings and opinions, and even get help with their foreign language studies. Others, however, think students should not. They say making friends on line is a waste of time, which should be spent more meaningfully on study. Besides, some students get cheated online. It is my opinion that students should place their study, health and safety before other things. As for friendship, we can readily find it in our classmates and other people around us.

注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

Paragraph 2

Tim finally noticed a response in the distance. He was excited to see a torch flashing back. It was his wife shining the torch in response to his signal. Thankfully his wife knew something must have been wrong and went looking for her husband. She kept moving toward her husband, shining her light. All the while, Mrs. Robinson called for help. As they got closer to each other she waited anxiously for help to arrive. She had no idea how hurt her husband actually was.
Tim’s condition was worse than Mrs. Robinson thought. Tim’s broken leg hurt increasingly worse and was at risk of infection. He needed medical care immediately. Luckily, the ambulance finally showed up. After checking his leg, the medical workers couldn’t believe what he had put himself through. This man had crawled such a long distance after suffering such a wound. If it hadn’t been for his training in the army, he might not have made it.
