A
7.The saying that children don’t like reading any more has been proved untrue. A new study finds that 75 percent of kids between 5 and 17 say that although they love technology, they still want to read books.
“The kids & Family Reading Report” also says that 62 percent of kids prefer reading printed books rather than those on a computer. At the same time, those who search an author’s website or use the Internet to find books by a particular author, are more likely to read books for fun every day.
The study also once again proves that the time kids spend reading books for fun decreases after the age of eight and continues to drop through the teen years. The report is a follow-up to a 2006 study. But this time the focus is on the role of technology and when kids’ interest in reading starts to drop.
“Despite the fact that after the age of eight more children go online daily than read for fun daily, high frequency Internet users are more likely to read books for fun every day.” says Heather Carter, a writer of the report.
One in four kids between 5 and 17 say they read books for fun every day and more than half of kids say they read books for fun at least two to three times a week. One of the key reasons kids say why they don’t read more often is that they have trouble finding books they like — a requirement that parents underestimate.
The study also finds that parents have a strong influence on kids’ reading, but only about half of all parents begin reading to their kids before their first birthday. The percent of children who are read to every day drops from 38 percent among five-to-eight-year-olds to 23 percent among nine-to-11-year-olds — exactly the same time that kids’ daily reading for fun starts to drop.
“Parents’ engagement in their children’s reading from birth all the way through the teen years can have a great influence on how often their children read and how much they enjoy reading”, adds Carter.
49. According to the passage, which of the following statements is true?
A. 75 percent of kids like surfing the Internet.

(2014届东北三省三校第二次联考)
UGG boots have been a winter-weather fashion for several years now, combining fun_ction, comfort, warmth and even some style. What many UGG-enthusiasts don't know is that their boots are a breeding ground for bacteria and cause foot problems.
Doctors believe the boots, which are particularly popular among young teenage girls, are leading to a rise in the number of people suffering pains in their feet and knees.
Dr. Ian Drysdale, head of the British College of Osteopathic Medicine, believes because the foot does not get the proper support on the inside, it will lead to more ankle, knee, hip and back problems. “These boots are not designed for outside wear. Just because something becomes a trend or fashionable doesn't mean it's good or right,” he said. “The particular problem with this type of footwear is that it is unsupported. It's a slipper. You wouldn't normally expect to be doing outdoor activities from something that's indoor. If you decide to wear your pajamas outside all the time, someone will come up and say it's not a good idea.” Dr. Drysdale explained that the feet issues become a particular problem among young teenage girls, whose bones are “plastic” and developing when they are growing. “If that structure is developing in an inappropriate way,” he said,“then the ultimate structure will be deformed.”
Mike O'Neill, a consultant surgeon, said,“As the foot slides around, you get wear and tear (磨损) on the joints on the inside of the foot. The ankle is in the wrong position, the thigh bone also changes position, and you get an abnormal movement in the pelvis, which leads to back problems.”
UGG Australia, who makes the designer version of the boots, told The Daily Wirror that their boots are “comfort” rather than “performance” footwear and consumers should be aware of “knockoffs (仿制品)” which lack reinforced heels in their boots.
9.Teenage girls prefer to wear UGG boots because of the following EXCEPT ________.
A.design B.comfort
C.quality D.warmth
10.According to Dr. Ian Drysdale, ________.
A.there is a possibility that bacteria will multiply in UGG boots
B.wearing UGG boots will lead to more ankle and toe problems
C.it's not a good idea to wear boots like UGG outside all the time
D.teenage girls' bones are plastic enough to wear UGG boots
A.shaped B.strengthened
11.The underlined word “deformed” is closest in meaning to ________.
C.reformed D.damaged
12.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Potential Harm of UGG Boots
B.The Popularity of UGG Boots
C.The Unique Design of UGG Boots
D.Benefits of UGG Boots

There is no better way to enjoy Scottish traditions than going fishing and tasting a little bit of whisky(威士忌) at a quiet place like the Inverlochy Castle. When Queen Victoria visited the castle in 1873 she wrote in her diary, “I never saw a lovelier spot. ” And she didn't even go fishing.
Scotland is not easily defined. In certain moments, this quiet land of lakes and grasses and mountains changes before your very eyes. When evening gently sweeps the hillside into orange light, the rivers, teeming with fish, can turn into streams of gold. As you settle down with just a fishing pole and a basket on the bank of River Orchy, near the Inverlochy Castle, any frustration(烦恼) will float away as gently as the circling water. It's just you and purple, pink, white flowers, seeking a perfect harmony. If you are a new comer to fishing, learning the basics from a fishing guide may leave you with a lifetime's fun. For many, fishing is more than a sport; it is an art.
Scotland offers interesting places where you can rest after a long day's fishing. Set against a wild mountain and hidden behind woodland, the beautiful Inverlochy Castle Hotel below the Nevis is a perfect place to see the beauty of Scotland's mountains. Ben Nevis is the highest of all British mountains, and reaching its 1343-metre top is a challenge. But it's not just what goes up that matters; what comes down is unique. More than 900 metres high, on the mountain's north face, lies an all-important source of pure water. Its name comes from the Gaelic language “usquebaugh ” or “water of life”; and it is the single most important ingredient(原料) in Scotland's best known drink:whisky.
64. The story of Queen Victoria is to show that ________.
A. the Queen is rich in tour experience
B. the Castle is a good place to go in Scotland
C. tasting whisky is better than going fishing
D. 1873 is a special year for the Queen
65. How is Paragraph 2 mainly developed?
A. By giving descriptions.
B. By following time order.
C. By analyzing causes.
D. By making comparisons.
66. What is Ben Nevis special for?
A. The Inverlochy Castle Hotel.
B. The beauty of its surroundings.
C. The water from the mountain.
D. The challenge up to its top.
67. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To introduce Scottish traditions to tourists.
B. To show the attractions of Scotland to readers.
C. To explore geographical characteristics of Scotland.
D. To describe the pleasures of life in Scotland.
