China's Great Wall, Australia's remote outback, Italy's ancient ruins, Jane Sun, CEO of CTrip, Asia's largest online travel agency, connects people with the best destinations the world has to offer. She believes cultural experiences can bridge the divide and conflicts, strengthen industries and create peace.
Actually, she herself is a living breathing advertisement for how travel can change a life. But her journey was much longer and more difficult than her recent completion of the Shanghai Marathon.
While attending Peking University, Sun was invited to a program in the University of Florida, when she finally managed to further her study, majoring in pared to her fellow students, Sun's life pace was rapid. She bicycled 6 miles to the campus each morning, taking the earliest classes available so she could spend the rest of the day, and Saturdays, working to pay her education fees. However, Sun recalls her days at the University of Florida fondly. "I learned a lot from my experience in the USA," says Sun.
"Many discussions I had at the University of Florida still influence my style of leadership today. In particular, I have developed an appreciation of other persons' different arguments over a certain issue(问题). "I tried to put myself in other people's shoes," Sun says. "In a global market, you have to have a very good understanding of different people and respect different cultures."
Feeling it her duty to help the next generation, Sun set up a scholarship for other students in need. Her tips for them include "be open-minded" and "give one hundred percent effort to whatever you want to accomplish". That's the exact attitude she holds to life.
Now as a mother of two daughters, she shoulders the responsibility as CEO of what is now a $25 billion company.
"Some people ask me why I work so hard, but I feel mothers are the best role models for children," Sun says. "I show them that to work is actually to challenge yourselves, but if you double your efforts at work and being a mother, it's doubly awarding." As for her future effort, Sun is preparing for the day when virtual reality, advanced vehicles and even space travel will change the travel industry. One thing that won't change: the power of travel to build a bridge.

It was our last class before the summer break. I was finishing the first year of an MFA program. I was tired and puzzled. "Was I good enough to be in the program " When the professor asked about our summer plans, I panicked. I didn't want to appear idle "Gardening," I responded immediately. Actually, I knew nothing about plants! My professor nodded and said, “What a good idea, Mary! Emily Dickinson loved gardening."
Emily Dickinson lived in the countryside, studying plants as a child. I was in my late twenties, living in the city without gardening experience.
A few days later, I bought a jalape o seedling At least I could say I'd tried gardening. I watered and changed the dirt for my little plant. I even talked to it. And over the summer, it grew bigger and bigger. I was proud. Maybe I didn't have a black thumb after all.
I started the second year of my MFA, and then it was almost December and my jalape o was suffering. It was brown in some places, and many of its leaves had fallen. Would my little guy make it I prayed, “Please be okay,” as if its survival was closely linked to mine.
I worked hard in school. Spring came. My jalape o plant came back to life. It grew bigger with new leaves. And then it flowered. I handed in my graduate paper, a book of poems, in May. "Your poems are strong," my professor said.
A huge weight lifted. I’d done it! At that time, I found the flowers on my jalape o plant were gone. I watched closer. A tiny green fruit pushed through where a flower had been. I smiled. I had succeeded in my MFA program, and my jalape o plant had grown right beside me, and I successfully did things I hadn’t thought possible.

A. A talent for growing plants well. B. A dirty finger to touch plants.
C. A good fortune to do everything. D. The inability to do gardening.
4.Which proverb can best describe the story

Farmers in Italy's famous Tuscany area are struggling to save grape and olive(橄榄) crops influenced by a heat wave and dry conditions. A lack of rainfall since spring has even influenced plants that traditionally grow well in hot and dry weather.
In San Casciano in Val di Pesa, near Florence, olive trees line the hillsides. But farmers say the dry soil is preventing the trees from producing the usual production of fruit.
Tuscany is famous around the world for its olive oil and wine from grapes. But growers in the area say dry, hot weather always has a great influence on the crops and harms production. But this year's heat and lack of water happened during an important time, when the flowers were changing to the fruit. Without water, many flowers fell to the ground before they could produce fruits. This year's oil production could be cut by up to 60 percent.
Olive growers have decided to change some of their farming methods. They have used a new watering method to make up for the lack of rainfall and hot temperatures. The method works with a pipe placed under the trees to drop water little by little.
The influences of weather change have harmed production and plants, but they have also created new areas in Italy where crops can be grown. A few years ago, olive farms were mainly found in hot and dry areas such as Sicily. Now, areas such as Valle d'Aosta in the far north of Italy—which is famous for its snow sport holiday places and mountains—can produce their own oil.
Climate change is also influencing wine crops in Tuscany. In Chianti, for example, September is normally the month for the yearly grape harvest. But with continued high temperatures, many grapes are ripening(成熟) earlier than expected. Apart from the drop in grapes caused by the current heatwave, wine growers also have to deal with other serious weather events. An ice storm recently harmed 40 percent of grapes in the area.
1.What was the reason for the drop in oil production this year
A.The dry weather lasted a longer time.
B.The fruit dropped to the ground before harvest.
C.The dry weather happened in a special period.
D.It was uncommon for the crops to experience dry weather.
2.Which of the following is a good influence of the dry weather
A.It increases the planting areas of crops. B.It encourages better farming methods.
C.It improves the taste of crops. D.It attracts more tourists to the area.
3.What does the author mainly tell us in the last paragraph
A.The influences of poor grapes on red wine.
B.The harm brought by an ice storm to grapes.
C.The production of grapes dropped because of dry weather.
D.The influences of bad weather on grapes.
4.Which is the best title for the text
A.Farmers in Italy Are Expecting Some Rain
B.New Ways Are Introduced to Fight Against Dry Weather
C.Dry Weather Influences Italy's Famous Grape & Olive Crops
D.More Areas in Italy Are Fit for Crops Because of Warming Climate

If you have ever been disappointed because you don't have a good gardener, the clever robot may one day become the helper of the plants inside your house.
The Hexa Plant is a six-legged robot that has been specially made to care for the potted(盆栽的) plant that it carries on top of its head. Using light and heat sensors(传感器), the robot has the ability to carry its plant in and out of the daylight. If the houseplant needs more sun, the Hexa will walk into the sunlight; if the houseplant is getting too hot, the Hexa will go back into the area that blocks direct light. The Hexa Plant will even do a little dance when it senses that the plant needs to be watered to warn its owner.
The robot was developed by the Vincross engineer and founder Sun Tianqi after he saw a dead sunflower sitting in the darkness in a room back in 2014. "Plants only receive an action without responding," Sun Tianqi wrote in a blog post. "Whether they are being cut, bitten, burned or pulled from the earth, or when they haven't received enough sunshine, water, or are too hot or cold, they will hold still and take whatever is happening to them."
According to Sun Tianqi, for billions of years, plants have never experienced movement of any kind, not even the simplest movement. In their whole lives, they stick to where they were born. Sun Tianqi continued, "Do they want to break their own settings or have a tendency towards this I do not know the answer, but I would love to try to share some of this human tendency and technology with plants. With the help of the robot, plants can experience the move."
The Hexa Plant model robots are not for sale, though Vincross does sell a Hexa robot model. It is said that in the near future the robots can open up a new market to watch over our household plants.
1. What can we learn about the Hexa Plant
A. It helps people plant some flowers.
B. It waters the plants through dancing.
C. It helps indoor plants get proper sunlight.
D. It carries the potted plant with its hands.
2. What does the author try to show in Paragraph 3
A. The way plants spend their whole lives.
B. The common way people deal with plants.
C. The difference between plants and humans.
D. The cause of making the indoor plants' helper.
3. What does Sun Tianqi try to do using this technology
A. To develop gardening skills. B. To draw people's attention to plants.
C. To make plants experience the move. D. To study the living conditions of plants.

The park bench was deserted as I sat down to read beneath an old willow tree. Not satisfied with life, I was upset. At this time, a young boy approached me. He stood right before me with his head tilting down, saying with great excitement, "Look at what I found!"
In his hand was a flower with its petals all worn. What a pitiful sight it was! That's because there was not enough rain or light. Wanting him to take his dead flower away and go off to play, I forced a small smile and then turned away. But instead of leaving, he sat next to my side and placed the flower to his nose and declared with certainty, "It really smells sweet and it's beautiful, too. That's why I picked it and it's for you."
The flower before me was dying or dead. But I knew I must take it, or he might never leave. So I reached for the flower and replied, "Just what I need." But instead of placing the flower in my hand, he held it in midair without reason. It was then that I noticed for the first time the boy was blind.
I heard my voice shaking and my eyes were full of tears as I thanked him for picking the very best one. He smiled, and then walked off to play, unaware of the effect he had on my day.
I sat there and wondered how he managed to see a self-pitying woman beneath an old willow tree. Meanwhile, I felt confused about the reason why he tried to make me happy by showing the flower. Perhaps from his heart, he enjoyed the world with true sight.
Through the kindness of the blind child, I learned something new.

Then I stood up and walked to the boy.

根据第三段中“But this year's heat and lack of water happened during an important time, when the flowers were changing to the fruit. Without water, many flowers fell to the ground before they could produce fruits.”
2.答案:A
根据第五段中“The influences of weather change have harmed production and plants, but they have also created new areas in Italy where crops can be grown.(天气变化的影响损害了产量和植物,但也在意大利创造了新的作物种植区域。)” 故选A。
根据最后一段中“Climate change is also influencing wine crops in Tuscany.(气候变化也影响着托斯卡纳区的葡萄酒作物。)”和“But with continued high temperatures, many grapes are ripening earlier than expected.(但随着持续高温,许多葡萄的成熟时间比预期的要早。)”及“An ice storm recently harmed 40 percent of grapes in the area.(最近一场冰暴摧毁了该地区40%的葡萄。)”
根据第一段中“Farmers in Italy's famous Tuscany area are struggling to save grape and olive crops influenced by a heat wave and dry conditions.(意大利著名的托斯卡纳区的农民们正在努力拯救受热浪和干旱环境影响的葡萄和橄榄作物。)”
If the houseplant needs more sun, the Hexa will walk into the sunlight; and if the houseplant is getting too hot, the Hexa will go back into the area that blocks direct light.
The robot was developed by Vincross engineer and founder Sun Tianqi after he saw a dead sunflower sitting in the darkness in a room back in 2014.
根据文章第四段中的 ...but I would love to try to share some of this human tendency and technology with plants. With the help of the robot, plants can experience the move.
Turn off lights and unplug power strips(电源插板) that you're not using.
Say no to unnecessary plastic straws, lids, and bags and stop using plastic wrap and plastic containers for food storage.
⑤最后一段提到choose some plants that are rather easy to look after(选择养一些容易照顾的植物)。

Dear Chris,
How are you doing Last weekend, I took a trip with my family to the local Shangri-La—Tiantang Village.
Hardly had we arrived there when the pleasant air mixed with the smell of flowers and green plants greeted us. The sounds of birds as well as streams flew into our ears. The villagers there live in harmony with nature and benefit from nature. I believe as long as we humans get along well with nature, it will never be mean to us.
Best wishes!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节
Through the kindness of the blind child, I learned something new. I could see the problem was not connected with the world, but me. And for all of those times I had been blind, I swore to see beauty and love every second just as the little boy did. I held the flower and watched the boy playing happily with his friends for a long time. And I knew it was time to change myself.
Then I stood up and walked to the boy. I went down and held him around with my arms, telling him slowly, "Little boy, you gave me the most beautiful flower in the world today. And you taught me how to appreciate my life with that magic flower. I will not feel upset any more. Instead, I will hug every moment in my future." The little boy hugged me and smiled at me sweetly like the most beautiful flower in the world.
