A
Get Involved! Make a Donation!
So what is rewilding
Imagine our natural homes growing instead of shrinking. Imagine species diversifying instead of declining. That's rewilding. Rewilding offers hope for wildlife, humans and the planet.
Why is rewilding important and necessary
Our natural ecology is broken. The places where you would expect wildlife to exist have been reduced to wet deserts. The seabed has been destroyed and there have been no living creatures any more.
Our wildlife is disappearing. Many wonderful species have declined over the past century. We've lost more of our large animals than any European country.
Nature looks after us. Good natural ecology can provide us with clean air and water, prevent flooding and store carbon. Rewilding can leave the world in a better state than it is today.
What are challenges
As a long-term project, our "Rewilding Britain" has its challenges. Many people are not interested, because we have got used to the lack of native forests. Many farmers oppose the idea. They thought it a crazy idea to bring back predators(捕食性动物) because they would start killing farm animals. It takes time to educate them. Above all, we need money! So we need your help!
Make a donation.
Help us bring back living systems and restore wild nature!
With your help we can:
Open up new chances for rewilding and push for change.
Develop tools to educate, influence and spread the word.
Thanks for your support.

"I had no intention to adopt a cat that day. I just liked being around animals," Miranda says. But when she saw Nala in her metal cage, "We made eye contact and I couldn't resist her big blue eyes." At that point, "Nala was so small. I asked the keeper if I could hold her. Once I had Nala in my arms, Nala looked up at me and licked(舔) my face." And that was when she knew she had to take this kitty home.
Still, Miranda never imagined Nala would become an Insta-star. "I started Nala's Instagram account in 2012 as a way to share photos with my close friends and family in Thailand," she explains. The possibility of Nala gaining attention beyond that small group of people hadn't occurred to her until it happened.
Miranda says, "Each time Nala's photo was featured on Instagram's popular page, her account would gain 1,000 new followers." From there, Nala's popularity snowballed. Large nationwide brands messaged Miranda about hiring Nala to do ads. "This took us by surprise because we couldn't believe that a big brand wanted to pay us to take photos with their products next to Nala."
Nala started life out in a shelter, just waiting to be loved like many other animals that were abandoned. Today that dream has surely come true. Nala has over 4 million followers on Instagram, which earned her the title "Guinness World Records Most Popular Cat on Instagram".
In addition to managing her Insta fame, Nala is being asked to test various cat food brands. More importantly, "Nala is our chance to share the love to help create a better life for other animals, so they can grow well and bring joy to the world like Nala has."
1.What is the first paragraph mainly about

A. To meet Nala's needs. B. To assist Nala to be a star.
C. To share Nala's pictures. D. To attract public attention.
3.How did Miranda feel about Nala's popularity
A.Satisfied B.Amazed. C. Upset. D. Disappointed.
4.What does the underlined phrase "that dream" in paragraph 4 refer to
A. Being eager to be loved. B. Starting life in the shelter.
C. Gaining chances to earn money. D. Being raised by Instagram fans.

In less than two months, a newly opened minimarket in a remote village in Xigaze City, southwest China's Tibet, has attracted a large number of customers. The secret behind its success is the idea "rubbish for goods". Villagers can redeem(兑换) goods with used cartons(硬纸盒) and drink bottles.
Early in the morning, Drukhyun, the first secretary of Chumik Village, came to check the stock(库存). "More and more people are coming to redeem goods and we need to timely ensure plentiful stocks," Drukhyun said. Yet the move was not quite well received in the beginning, until they put their eyes on the pupils. The children used recyclables in exchange for snacks and soon the news spread. Now over 100 villagers have redeemed goods with a value of over 5,100 yuan.
The market has also provided jobs for four local residents that once lived under the poverty line, each earning a monthly salary of 3,000 yuan. Tenzin Drolma is responsible for counting and weighing the goods. "Thanks to the market, I can get such a meaningful job. Local residents are highly motivated and I'm pretty busy every day."
Since a rule of sorting the waste into categories(种类)in Lhasa was carried out in November 2020, several green markets have opened one after another. In another similar supermarket in Lhasa, the shelves are filled with edible oil, washing liquid, toothpaste and other daily products. All the products are only available by redeeming points. One kilogram of plastic waste can be redeemed for13 points while one kilogram of cartons is worth 5 points.
Technology has also made the low-carbon lifestyle smarter and cleaner. In a community in Lhasa's Chengguan District, the intelligent recycling bins can calculate the weight and upload (上传) the redeemed points to cards of local residents. "When the trash bins are full, it will automatically remind the cleaning staff to empty them," said Pendran, director of the district's waste sorting office.
1.What do we know about the minimarket in Tibet
A. It was an immediate success when first founded.
B. It began to spread with the help of the local kids.
C. It was not accepted for environmental damage.
D. It allowed villagers to buy daily goods with cash.
2.How does the minimarket affect the local area
A. It starts the local rule of waste sorting.
B. It helps the locals get rid of poverty.
C. It offers more diverse goods to the locals.
D. It provides employment opportunities.
3.What is Tenzin Drolma's attitude towards the minimarket
A. Appreciative. B. Worried. C. Disapproving. D. Uncertain.
4.What can the intelligent recycling bins do
A. Make cards for local residents. B. Sort the waste into several categories.
C. Figure out the value of the recycles. D. Remind the residents to empty the bin.
D
As Internet users become more dependent on the Internet to store information, are people remembering less If you know your computer will save information, why store it in your own personal memory—your brain Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how.
In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow conducted some experiments. She and her research team wanted to know whether the Internet is changing memory. In the first experiment, they gave people 40 unimportant facts to type into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would save the information. The second group understood that the computer would not save it. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it.
In another experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the Internet. The information was in a specific computer folder (文件夹). Surprisingly, people later remembered the folder location better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. Rather, they remember how to find it. This is called "transactive (交互) memory".
According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memory as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memory; that is, people are learning how to organize huge quantities of information so that they are able to access it at a later date. This doesn't mean we are becoming either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.
1.The passage begins with two questions to ________.
A.introduce the main topic B.show the author's attitude
C.describe how to use the Internet D.explain how to store information
2.What can we learn about the first experiment
A.Sparrow's team typed the information into a computer.
B.The two groups remembered the information equally well.
C.The first group did not try to remember the information.
D.The second group did not understand the information.
3.In transactive memory, people _______.
A.keep the information in mind B.change the quantity of information
C.organize information like a computer D.remember how to find the information
4.What is the effect of the Internet according to Sparrow's research
A.We are using memory differently. B.We are becoming more intelligent.
C.We have poorer memory than before. D.We need a better way to access information.

Pets are like our family members and their good health is something that is very important to all pet owners. Just as the pollutants, such as carbon monoxide (一氧化物) and carbon dioxide in the air, affect our health, these same environmental nasties can affect our pets too.
①______ 57% of dogs exposed to higher pollution levels developed brain diseases and showed signs of neuro problems. In a more recent study from the journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, researchers found that cats with breathing problems were more likely to live in households with higher indoor air pollution.
Air purifiers have been brought into use in recent years. They work to remove harmful chemicals known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other environmental pollutants from the air. ②______ But are they safe for pets How can we ensure that they aren’t harming our furry friends
③______ The physical safety of using a mechanical device around pets is what we have to pay attention to. Air purifiers come in various shapes and sizes, from small desk-top units to large, free-standing models. In terms of physical harm, there is an existing risk of our pet becoming trapped in the electrical wire of our air purifier. Air purifiers are designed to be used in the home around children and their internal mechanisms should also be safe from small tails of our pets and other parts of their bodies. ④______
Whether the air purifier improves or damages the health of our animals is also something we have to consider. The air purifiers are safe for pets, but only if they do not produce any ozone (臭氧) byproduct. ⑤______ We should always stay away from the ones that produce even minimal quantities. We are always on the safe side by picking a standard air purifier with the classic 3-stage filtration (过滤) system of a pre-filter, HEPA filter and carbon activated filter.
Picking the wrong air purifier type can quickly make things worse for our pets. On the other hand, picking the correct air purifier can lead to a big increase in the quality of life for them.
A. At present many homes are equipped with these useful devices.
B. Before buying an air purifier, we should keep two aspects in mind.
C. Pet owners always pay close attention to the physical health of their pets.
D. Even the smallest pets shouldn’t be able to access the insides of air purifiers.
E. This greatly depends on the type of air purifier and air cleaning technology used.
F. So always check the product specifications and try to find a model that does not produce any carbon monoxide.
G. A 2008 study published in Brain and Cognition showed that dogs’ brains were negatively affected by the heavy pollution levels.

In the beautiful city of San Francisco, it was spring. The flowers were blooming, the sun was shinning, and the birds were singing their beautiful songs. In a nearby basketball stadium, there was a basketball championship going on. Jesse, like his elder brother Timmy, was one of the best players in the competition; he scored most of his team's points, but his team did not like that. Jesse never passed the ball. His coach always told him that it was a team game and not a one-man show.
"Jesse, pass the ball more," insisted Coach Tyler.
"Coach, I am good. I can win this whole tournament by myself if I want to, " responded Jesse.
"Jesse, you need to learn to respect the game! " said Coach Tyler.
"I don't need to respect anything," said Jesse.
"Okay then, and I don’t need you in my team, Jesse. Get out of here!"
"Fine!" replied Jesse angrily.
At school Jesse's friends Zack, Christopher, and De'Aaron were trying to calm down Jesse, who was still angry about what had happened the previous day. Jesse was usually good at school, but after getting kicked out of the team, his attitude changed. He started doing poorly. He got in trouble and failed classes. Jesse tried to join other basketball teams, but he could not because their list was filled or he was too young or too old. Finally, Jesse was recommended for a team by Zack.
"Thanks," said Jesse happily.
"No problem, Jesse," responded Zack. Five months later...
Jesse started passing the ball more, but he still averaged 26.4 points per game. Jesse enjoyed how he played, but he did not like that he was coming off the bench. Jesse proved that he was a star on the court, but still the coach said that he was better coming off the bench. "Coach, I think I have showed that I can start the next game," said Jesse calmly. "No, Jesse, you are not good enough," responded the coach. "But..." said Jesse before the coach interrupted him. "No, Jesse!" Jesse started getting mad, "Coach, you need to start me. I'm the best in this team," said Jesse arrogantly (傲慢地). "Jesse, how about you just leave " bellowed the coach.
Paragraph 1:
Jesse left.

A
1.答案:A
根据第一段前三句“Imagine our natural homes growing instead of shrinking. Imagine species diversifying instead of declining. That's rewilding.”
根据“What are challenges ”部分的“Many farmers oppose the idea.”
根据文章中的“Above all, we need money!”及“Make a donation.”部分的“Help us bring back living systems and restore wild nature!”
根据文章第一段内容" 'I had no intention to adopt a cat that day. I just liked being around animals,' Miranda says. But when she saw Nala in her metal cage, 'We made eye contact and I couldn't resist her big blue yes.' At that point,' Nala was so small. I asked the keeper if I could hold her. Once I had Nala in my arms, Nala looked up at me and licked my face.' And that was when she knew she had to take this kitty home."
根据文章第二段第二句“ ‘I started Nala's Instagram account in 2012 as a way to share photos with my close friends and family in Thailand,’ she explains.”
根据文章第二段第一句“Still, Miranda never imagined Nala would become an Insta-star.”以及第三段最后一句“This took us by surprise because we couldn't believe that a big brand wanted to pay us to take photos with their products next to Nala.”
4.答案:A
根据画线短语that dream所在句子可知,that dream应指代前一句“Nala started life out in a shelter, just waiting to be loved like many other animals that were abandoned.”中的waiting to be loved。故选A项。
C
根据第二段第三、四句“Yet the move was not quite well received in the beginning, until they put their eyes on the pupils. The children used recyclables in exchange for snacks and soon the news spread.”
根据第三段第一句“The market has also provided jobs for four local residents that once lived under the poverty line, each earning a monthly salary of 3,000 yuan.”
3.答案:A
根据第三段中“Thanks to the market, I can get such a meaningful job.” 故选A。
4.答案:C

D
Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how.
People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it. Later, the second group remembered the information better.
Rather, they remember how to find it. This is called "transactive(交互)memory".
故选A项。
根据上一句“57% of dogs exposed to higher pollution levels developed brain diseases and showed signs of neuro problems. 57%的狗暴露在高污染水平下,会患上脑部疾病,并出现神经问题的迹象。”可知此处说的是一项研究结果。所以G. A 2008 study published in Brain and Cognition showed that dogs' brains were negatively affected by the heavy pollution levels.(2008年发表在《大脑与认知》杂志上的一项研究表明,狗的大脑受到严重污染水平的负面影响。)
根据下一句“But are they safe for pets 它们对宠物安全吗 ”可知此处说的“they”代指的选项中的“these useful devices”。 所以A. At present many homes are equipped with these useful devices(目前许多家庭都配备了这些有用的设备。) 故选A。
根据下一句“The physical safety of using a mechanical device around pets is what we have to pay attention to.在宠物周围使用机械设备的人身安全是我们必须注意的。”可知此处说的是机械设备的安全问题。所以B. Before buying an air purifier, we should keep two aspects in mind.(在购买空气净化器之前,我们应该记住两个方面。)
根据上一句“Air purifiers are designed to be used in the home around children and their internal mechanisms should also be safe from small tails of our pets and other parts of their bodies.空气净化器设计用于儿童周围的家中,其内部机制也应安全,不受我们宠物的小尾巴及其身体其他部位的影响。”可知此处说的是针对小宠物的安全。所以D. Even the smallest pets shouldn't be able to access the insides of air purifiers.
根据下文“We should always stay away from the ones that produce even minimal quantities. We are always on the safe side by picking a standard air purifier with the classic 3-stage filtration (过滤) system of a pre-filter, HEPA filter and carbon activated filter.我们应该永远远离那些即使产量极小的产品。我们总是出于安全考虑,选择了-款标准的空气净化器,该净化器采用经典的三级过滤系统,包括前置过滤器、高效空气过滤器和碳活性过滤器。”可知此处说的是空气净化器的类型净化技术。所以E. This greatly depends on the type of air purifier and air cleaning technology used.(这在很大程度上取决于空气净化器的类型和使用的空气净化技术。)

答案:①to refer②influences/has influenced③behaviors④which⑤be considered⑥constantly⑦an⑧spending⑨to⑩needed
句中used...to someone spending too much time...作后置定语修饰phrase, be used to do意为“被用来做……”,为固定短语,故used后面接动词不定式。
空格处单词作refers to的宾语,应使用名词形式behavior,空格后"that are difficult to control"是定语从句,用来修饰behavior,定语从句中谓语are提示behavior应为复数形式,故填behaviors。
a social networking addict与consider是逻辑上的被动关系,空格前为情态动词could,故填be considered。
Ladies and gentlemen,
Good evening. My name is Li Hua. I am from Class One, Grade Two.
Many wild animals are facing the danger of extinction because of human activities.
As is known to us, to protect animals is to protect ourselves, so the following measures should be taken: pollution standards are set to keep down poisons; killing off certain rare species is prohibited. In addition, as a student, we should also protect animals in our daily life. When we see a stray cat or a stray dog, we'd better give it some food. Whenever we see someone hurting an animal, we shouldn't hesitate to stop them doing that.
Only if we human beings show our love to them can animals be preserved.
Thanks for listening!
第二节
答案:
Paragraph 1:
Jesse left. He went home as mad as a hungry baby. When he got home, his elder brother Timmy asked him what was wrong. "The coach won't let me start the next game," responded Jesse. "Why don't you go back to your old team " asked Timmy. "I got kicked out because I got too angry," said Jesse disappointedly. "Then change! You need to learn how to respect the game. Start passing the ball," answered Timmy.
Paragraph 2:
Jesse went back to the stadium. He saw Coach Tyler and told him everything that had happened. "Coach, I have learned to respect the game of basketball. Could you please let me back in the team " requested Jesse. "You learn from your mistakes." Jesse returned to the game of basketball, and he led his team to the national championship. "You see, Jesse, you have led us to the championship and earned my respect," said Coach Tyler. "Thanks, Coach," responded Jesse.
