Ⅰ 阅读
I had an eating disorder when I was about 14. I went from being 5′4″ (5 feet 4 inches) and 130 pounds to 5′6″ and 94 pounds. I wanted to gain weight, so I ate anything I wanted and ended up at 5′8″ and 160 pounds. Then I had another eating disorder and went from 160 to 130 pounds at 5′9″. I started eating a lot again and ended up at 205 pounds. I was really close to obesity and was concerned about my health.
I decided to take action. I cut off many carbs. I ceased drinking sugary soft drinks which can make people gain weight quickly. I started eating more vegetables in my diet. My mom weighed 130 pounds two years ago. In order to lose weight, she gave up fast food and ate vegetables instead. She is now around 107 pounds. She succeeds in losing weight through eating more vegetables and less fast food. And that was why I started eating more vegetables. I also learned to eat less. Within 3 to 5 months I lost 55 pounds. I am still losing weight now but at a slower rate than that when I started changing my diet. I'm confident that my weight will drop to a normal level.
Do you also want to lose weight If you do, here is some advice for you. If you like eating sweet sugary things, then I would suggest you eat more fruits but with an empty stomach. If you dislike running like me, then I would recommend walking if you want to exercise. Here are some more tips. Do not eat too much at one time. Eat slowly and wait till your brain tells you that you're full. Look at nutrition facts on food items before you eat them and throw them away if they're unhealthy. Eat more vegetables and fruits. Spend more time on exercise.

The Key to Your Health
A car needs gas to run and your body also needs food to work for you. Eating the right kind of food is very important. It can help your body grow strong, so take care of what you eat.
There are four main food groups altogether. The dairy group has food like milk, cheese and sour milk. The other three groups are the meat and fish group, the fruit and vegetable group, and the bread and rice group. Each meal should have at least one food from all four main groups. With all these food together, you will be given enough energy during the day.
It is easy to get into bad eating habits. You may eat your breakfast in a hurry to get to school on time. Or you may not have time for a good lunch. It may seem easy to finish your supper with fish and chips all the time. But you will find yourself tired in these days and you cannot think quickly.
Watching what you eat will help your body remain healthy and strong. It is also good to take some exercise. It will help you eat more if you take a walk or play games in the open air. Having a good eating habit with some exercise is the key to your health.

(·广州市番禺区高二月考)In the UK, most children have their midday meal at school, but in many schools, parents can choose what their children eat. The children can have a school lunch—a hot, cooked meal; or they can take a packed lunch with them, which usually includes cold food like sandwiches.Often parents prepare lunches on the basis of what their children want. Cathy, a mother of three children, told us, “My children have packed lunches, because they say they hate school dinners. I make 3 packed lunches every morning, so we're like a sandwich bar in our kitchen in the morning.”
However, another mother, Susan, made her choice based on the nutritious (有营养的) value of the food. She said, “My daughter always has school dinners. I think she probably gets healthier food by having a cooked lunch at school than she would if I made sandwiches.”
But how healthy are school dinners Kaz, a father, wasn't impressed with them. “Fizzy (有泡沫的) drinks were offered and I think there were a lot of chips.”
The question of how healthy school food is was brought to Jamie Oliver, who launched a campaign to improve children's nutrition, after spending a year working in a school kitchen. The TV series about the campaign won an award this week.
He was worried about the junk food he saw being served, which included burgers, pizza and chips. He decided to ban the junk, and started cooking good stews (炖菜) and curries for the children instead.
Jamie improved the school dinners in that particular school, and trained the dinner ladies to cook healthy food. Then he put pressure on the government to improve the standards of school food across the country. And it looks as if the changes have begun.

A warm drink of milk before bed has long been the best choice for those wanting a good night's sleep. But now a study has found it really does help people nod off—if it is milked from a cow at night.
Researchers have discovered that “night milk” contains more melatonin (褪黑激素), which has been proven to help people feel sleepy and reduce anxiety.
The study, by researchers from Seoul, South Korea, involved mice being fed with dried milk powder made from cows milked both during the day and at night.
Those given night milk, which contained 10 times the amount of melatonin, were less active and less anxious than those fed with the milk collected during daytime, according to the study published in The Journal of Medicinal Food.
Night milk quickened the start of sleep and caused the mice to sleep longer.
While the effect of cows milk harvested at different time has not been tested on humans up to now, taking melatonin drugs has been suggested to those who are struggling to fall asleep at night.
Previous studies have also indicated that milk can be excellent for helping sleep because of the calcium content, which helps people to relax.
Milk is also sugar-free and additive-free with nutritionists recommending skimmed milk as the best choice before bed as it is the least fattening. The more fat you take in before bedtime, the greater burden you will put on your body at night.

(·通化市东昌区高二检测)Do you like to eat out Do you like to eat quickly Do you like inexpensive food
Some people go to fast food restaurant for these reasons. In the past, people usually went to diners (路边餐馆) for these reasons. In fact, many people in the States still go to diners today for the same reasons.
A man named Walter Scott had the first “diner” in 1872. It wasn't really a diner. It was only a food cart (手推车). People on the street walked up to the carts to buy food. These carts served late night meals. The meal was a sandwich or boiled eggs. In 1887, Samuel Jones built the first diner big enough to allow the customers to come inside. However, they didn't sit down, later people built diners with counters and stools, and people sat down while they ate.
Before long many diners stayed open around the clock. In other words, people were able to eat in a diner at any time. Diners changed in other ways, too. The original menu of sandwiches and coffee became bigger. It included soup, favorite dishes, and a breakfast menu. In addition, diners soon became permanent buildings. They were no longer carts on wheels.
Diners today look similar to the diners of the early 1990s. They are usually buildings with large windows. Inside, the diners have shining counters with stools, booth (公用电话), and tables and chairs. People can have all three meals in a modern diner.
Today, many people eat in fast food restaurant such as McDonald's and Burger King. However, the diner remains an American tradition, and thousands of people still enjoy eating there. It was popular a century ago, and it is still popular today.

Blueberry Pie
Today Grandma and I are going to make a blueberry pie. We want to surprise Mom when she comes to pick me up. Mom loves blueberries as much as Grandma and I do. She especially loves blueberry pie.
I look into the refrigerator for blueberries. They are all gone. “We can't make a blueberry pie without blueberries,” I say.
“I guess we will just have to get more,” says Grandma. “Great!” I like getting blueberries as much as I like making the pie.
I put on my hat, and we get in the car. We drive past rows of houses. We drive past rows of stores. We drive and drive. At last I see the sign. Grandma sees it, too. “Nelson's Orchard,” says Grandma. She turns into the drive-way and parks the car on a patch of grass.
Mr Nelson is standing in a wooden booth. On the counter is a stack of buckets. Mr Nelson gives us each a plastic bucket. “There are still plenty of berries. Help yourself.”
We walk to a row of tall blueberry bushes. I look for big, round, dark-blue berries. I pull two from a branch and drop them into my bucket. Plop. Plop. All these blueberries make me hungry. “I wish I could eat them now,” I say.
“I know,” says Grandma. “So do I.”
Grandma and I move from bush to bush. At last Grandma says we have enough. We walk back to Mr Nelson. He weighs each bucket on a big metal scale, then pours the blueberries in a bag. Grandma pays Mr Nelson.
“Now?” I ask.
“Now,” says Grandma.
I take a blueberry from the bag and pop it into my mouth. It tastes sweet. I eat another and another. Grandma takes some, too.
We say good-bye to Mr Nelson. I snack on blueberries as we drive. Finally we are home.
I help Grandma make turkey sandwiches and blueberry smoothies for lunch.
Grandma looks in the bag of blueberries. “We have just enough for the pie,” she says. “No more eating.”

Many studies have hinted that alcohol, in moderation, can do a heart good. But new research suggests that moderate drinkers are no more likely than non-drinkers to have clear arteries (动脉).
The scientists looked at almost 2,000 patients who underwent CT test. Overall, there was no association between people's drinking habits and their heart diseases. Researchers said an advantage of the new study is that it used objective measurements.
“No prior studies have assessed the relationship between alcohol consumption and the presence of heart disease, ” said lead researcher Dr Julia Karady. “We could not find any relation between the presence of heart disease and alcohol consumption, ” Karady said. At the same time, she added, there was no evidence that heavier drinking raised the risk of heart disease.
However, groups like the American Heart Association (AHA) warn against excessive drinking, because it can raise blood pressure and contribute to heart failure and other problems.
In general, “moderate” is defined as no more than one glass of alcohol a day for women, and no more than two a day for men. But those studies do not prove that alcohol, itself, protects the heart—in large part because alcohol also carries risks.

Ⅱ 七选五
(·长治一中高二检测)Having a happier life is something we all always struggle for. One of the fundamental points of that is to be consistent in doing things that bring happiness. 1
Consider these 4 habits:
(1)Laugh in the middle of a busy day.
It's 3 pm on a Sunday afternoon and you're desperate to leave for school. On top of the homework, you're running close to super important deadline. 2 Just take a moment to laugh. You should laugh more often, especially on a busy day.
(2)Do not compare yourself to others.
Measure your own successes based on your progress and only yours. 3 No one is better than any one else.
(3)Find time to work out regularly and eat well.
Exercise can produce tons of feel-good hormones. 4 Feeding your body with whole and nutritious foods, on the other hand, can positively affect your body in both short and long term. Find time to schedule in a workout even if it's only thirty minutes and do something you love. Eat well because foods can help you stay focused and more energized, and happier as a whole.
(4)End each day with gratitude.
5 It might be something as small as a child's laugh or something as huge as a praise from the headmaster. Whatever it is, be grateful for that day because it will never come again.
A.All of our lives are unique.
B.Surround you with people who matter.
C.Don't blame everything not going your way.
D.Try to think you are better than anyone else.
E.Develop right habits to ensure we live a happy life.
F.These hormones can help avoid stress and depression.
G.Just before you go to bed, write down at least one wonderful thing that happened.

People become quite illogical (不合逻辑的) when they try to decide what can be eaten and what cannot. If you lived in the Mediterranean, for instance, you would consider octopus (章鱼) a great delicacy (美味佳肴). You would not be able to understand why some people find it repulsive. On the other hand, your stomach would turn at the idea of frying potatoes in animal fat—the normally accepted practice in many northern countries. The sad truth is that most of us have been brought up to eat certain foods and we stick to them all our lives.
No creature has received more praise and abuse than the common garden snails. Cooked in wine, snails are a great luxury in various parts of the world. There are countless people who, ever since their early years, have learned to associate snails with food.
My friend, Robert, lives in a country where snails are looked down upon. As his flat is in a large town, he has no garden of his own. For years he has been asking me to collect snails from my garden and take them to him. The idea never appealed to me very much, but one day, after a heavy shower, I happened to be walking in my garden when I noticed a huge number of snails taking a walk on some of my prize plants.
Paragraph 1:
It suddenly struck me that Robert had asked me for snails.
Paragraph 2:
Of course, I had forgotten all about the snails when Robert suddenly said that I must stay to dinner.

Paragraph 1:
It suddenly struck me that Robert had asked me for snails. They reminded me of the link between Robert and the great delicacy. Acting on a sudden drive, I collected several dozen, put them in a paper bag, and took them to Robert. Robert was delighted to see me and equally pleased with my little gift. I left the bag in the hall and Robert and I went into the living room where we talked for a couple of hours.Robert and I are both football fans, and we were fascinated about watching Coby and talking about football seasons. So time had been ignored at all.
Paragraph 2:
Of course, I had forgotten all about the snails when Robert suddenly said that I must stay to dinner. Snails would, of course, be the main dish. I did not fancy the idea and I reluctantly followed Robert out of the room. To my surprise, we saw that there were snails everywhere, they had escaped from the paper bag and had taken complete possession of the hall. I have never been able to look at a snail since then.Section Ⅴ Summary and Writing

(·东北师大附中月考) Mickey Mouse wants to help kids kick the junk food habit. The Walt Disney Company announced that it plans to advertise only healthier food to kids.
By now, all food and drink products that are advertised on its TV channels, radio stations and websites will have to meet the company's nutrition standard for limiting calories and reducing fat, sodium and sugar. Many food, such as fruit drinks, candy and snack cakes, won't meet the standard.
First Lady Michelle Obama called it a “game changer”. “Disney is doing what no major media company has ever done before in the US—and what I hope every company will do in the future.”
“This is a landmark, because a major media company is taking responsibility for what food they advertise to children,” says Margo Wootan, director of nutrition policy for the Center for Science in the Public Interest. “This should be a real wake-up call to Nickelodeon (an American children's channel) and the Cartoon Network to do the same.”
But the company will still be able to advertise “better for you versions of products that are not perfectly nutritious”. Under the new standards, breakfast cereals that are advertised will have to contain fewer than 10 grams of sugar in a serving, Wootan says. “That's a good step forward, but it's not perfectly nutritious.”
Jon Leibowitz, chairman of the Federal Trade Commission, says “Disney is making this move at perhaps some risk of affecting their incomes, so that's why we should praise them.”
“Food marketing is really important because it shapes the way kids are fed,” Wootan says. “If we don't deal with food marketing to kids, we don't have any chance of addressing childhood obesity.”
Currently, a third of children are overweight, putting them at a greater risk for serious health problems.
At its theme parks, Disney began offering healthier kids' meals serving carrots and other vegetables, fruit, low-fat milk and yogurt at meals, instead of fries and soft drinks.

When in Ireland do as the Irish do. And when it comes to food and drink be sure to try these local specialities (地方特色菜).
1)Baked Ham
Definitely not a poor man's dish, the traditional Irish ham was coated with sugar dressed with cloves and then baked until it was crisp on the outside tender on the inside.Generally it is served with boiled cabbage and cooked or fried potatoes. It is not everyday food even for the well-to-do but bargains can be bad at some pub restaurants.
2)Smoked Salmon
The most popular way to enjoy salmon is smoked either on bread with eggs or simply on its own with a salad on the side. Farmed salmon can be rather ordinary so wild salmon tends to be much higher.
3)Dublin Coddle
Dubliners often eat this on Saturday nights before they go out. It is a good basic dish made of chopped sausage and bacon cooked with onions and potatoes in beef stock. It is also easy to make in quantity and can be reheated the next day.
4)Soup of the Day
Advertised nearly everywhere it is usually served with bread and butter and is a very good value for a lunchtime snack. In a typical Irish way the question “What is the soup of the day?” will nine times out of ten be answered with a shrug and the word “Vegetables”. Pot luck is the order of the day.

In present-day China we can find two types of fast food: western food and Chinese food. However not until the recent decade has western fast food become popular in China. Before the first hamburger walked its way into the Chinese food market we had little idea about such terms as hot dogs, pizza, potato chips, let alone KFC and McDonald's. It is the reform and opening-up policy that has brought about the inter-flow of the food culture between China and the western countries.
Fast food, both Chinese food and western food has several advantages. In the first place fast food as is characterized by its name is fast. The food is always ready and fresh waiting for its customers. This saves people's precious time and consequently goes well with the tempo of life in modern society.
Secondly, it is very convenient. As we know fast food restaurants are much the same as cafeteria. Customers may feel free to help themselves to any variety
provided and eat to their hearts' content.
Thirdly, fast food restaurants are environmentally comfortable. Clean dishes, shiny tables, decent service and light music all stimulate people's appetite to eat more. The above mentioned advantages make fast food become rooted in almost all parts of the country and enjoy popularity among people. That's also why nowadays Singapore fast food and Turkish fast food have found their homes in China.
As every coin has two sides, fast food also has its disadvantages such as lack of nutrition and dull tastes. Nevertheless these are minor points compared with its advantages. Since most people agree with fast food it tends to grow more rapidly.

(·湛江市霞山区高二阶段检测) Imagine walking into a restaurant and being greeted by a robot instead of a human. And then, when you're seated, another robot comes to take your order and yet other robot cooks your food and brings it out to you. But now it has turned into reality in a Chinese restaurant called Dalu Robot. The restaurant has been a hit with customers who really want to see what the robots are able to do for them. The robots can also be seen in action in a video made at the restaurant and posted on YouTube.
The restaurants use eighteen different kinds of robots in all, and each is unique in what it can do. There are robot waiters taking orders and still others that bring the food and drinks to the table. And behind the scenes, there are robots that cook noodles and others that brew tea. It's all very mechanized, and uses other technologies as well, such as a conveyer built to present the meals on trays for the wait staff to carry to the table. Also, there is a special part of the floor with electronics that help the wait staff find their way around the restaurant and to keep track of which meals go to which patron.
One of them is even a robot dog to amuse the kids. Customers are greeted with the message “Earth Person, Hello, Welcome to the Robot Restaurant” and robots carry out all of the roles traditionally held by human beings, even stopping by to ask how things are going during the meal. And while they eat, patrons are entertained by a robot that sings, and even takes requests.
All of the robots have been made by one single company, Harbin Haohai Robot Company, though the company has many partners, including those working for the government. China has made a policy to make it the world leader in robotics technology, and if the little restaurant with robot staff is any indication, they're close, if not already there.
