(·合肥市第七中学高二月考)First aid means the aid or the help that can be given to an injured person first, that is, before any other help arrives. Nowadays there is usually a telephone not far away and the first we should do, if a serious accident happens, is to call for an ambulance. Sometimes quick action by us may save someone's life.
Shock. People often suffer from shock after receiving an injury, sometimes even when the injury is a small one. The face turns grey, and the skin becomes damp and cold. They breathe quickly. They should be kept warm. Cover them with a blanket and give them a warm drink.
Broken bones. Do not move the patient. Send for an ambulance at once.
Bleeding. A little bleeding doesn't harm. It washes dirt from the wound. But if the bleeding continues, try to stop it by placing a clean cloth firmly over the wound until the bleeding stops or help arrives.
Poison. A person who has taken poison should be taken to a hospital at once. With some poisons, sleeping pills, for example, it is a good thing to make the patient throw up by pressing your fingers down his throat.
Remember. When an accident happens, send someone to telephone for an ambulance at once. Keep the injured person warm and quiet. Give him plenty of air. Do not let other people crowd around him.

Knowing a little first aid could be life-saving if you see someone lying unconscious.
Too often people don't do anything because they think they will kill the patient, but by learning simple rules you could make the difference between life and death.
First, you need to find out if they're unconscious, asleep or drunk, by squeezing the skin between their neck and shoulder and shouting. If there is no response at all, you need to establish if they are dead or just unconscious—sometimes it's very difficult to tell the difference.
Open the airway by placing one hand on their forehead and gently tilting the head back while lifting the chin.
If there are no signs of life—no obvious pulse and their chest is not going up and down—call an ambulance and then start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (心脏复苏) to maintain (获得) a flow of oxygenated blood to the brain and heart.
Do this by pushing up and down on the centre of the chest, with your hands interlocked together, constantly until an ambulance arrives.
Push at a rate of 100 beats a minute. You can't harm them doing this and might just save a life.

(·全国新高三开学联考)A 3 year old boy who was lost in the woods for two days is now safe at home with his family. But Casey Hathaway told his rescuers that he was not alone in the rainy, freezing cold woods. He said he was with a friend—a bear.
The child went missing on January 22. He was playing with friends at his grandmother's house in the southern state of North Carolina. When the other children returned home but Casey did not, the family searched the area for almost an hour before calling the police. Police formed a search and rescue team to look for the young boy in the nearby woods. But two days went by and still—no Casey.
Then on January 24, someone called the police saying he heard a child crying in the woods. Police followed up on the information and found Casey at about 9:30 that night. They pulled him out of some briar. He was in good health. Casey told the rescuers that he had hung out with a black bear for two days, a bear he called his “friend”.
Sheriff Chip Hughes spoke with reporters from several news agencies. He said Casey did not say how he was able to survive in the woods for three days in the cold, rainy weather. However, the sheriff said, “He did say he had a friend in the woods that was a bear that was with him.”
Hundreds of people helped in the search and rescue efforts, including some 600 volunteers, federal police and members of the military. Officer Hughes told reporters that at no point did he think Casey had been kidnapped.
His mother Brittany Hathaway talked with reporters from a local news agency and thanked everyone who joined the search for her son. “We just want to tell everybody that we're very thankful that you took the time out to search for Casey and prayed for him, and he's good,” said his mother. “He is good, he is up and talking. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
It is not as simple as opening the door and hitting the track in winter. There are a few things you can do to ensure you are getting the most out of your run, and, importantly, not doing more harm than good.
Warm up; cool down.
16 Your muscles need some time to warm up when it's cold, so take it easy when you set off and do a few stretches (伸展) once you're finished.
Drink water.
You might not feel hot, but that's because sweat evaporates (蒸发) more quickly into the chilly, dry air. So be sure to drink water before, during and after cold-weather workouts. 17 A belt bottle conveniently attaches to your waist so you don't have to carry it and can have a drink whenever you feel like it.
18
Running in cotton is a bad idea. Wear thin, breathable layers of synthetic (合成的) clothing that help protect you from the wind and snow, but still let out heat and moisture (水分). Thirty percent of your body heat escapes through your hands and forty percent through your head. Wear a hat, or beanie (无檐小便帽), and gloves so your circulatory system can distribute warm blood to the rest of your body. 19
Run into the wind.
20 Obviously, it will be an easier passage home with some extra help from Mother Nature. But, more importantly, you won't have the wind in your face for the second half of your run, when you are more likely to be sweating and catch a chill.
A.Dress right.
B.Keep warm.
C.Don't go too fast, too soon.
D.Start and finish in the same way.
E.Don't wait to drink water until you feel thirsty.
F.Head out into the wind and come home with it at your back.
G.On really cold days, wear a mask or scarf over your mouth to protect your face.

It was Friday about 3:15. I had just gotten back from school; I sat down at a table to do my homework.
“Hi, Mom.” “Daniela, I need to talk with you.” “About what?” “Your dad and I have been thinking really hard about this, and you are getting a new sister.” “What, but what about me?” I asked. “I don't want a sister. Don't you love me?” “Yes, but ...”
Without letting her finish, I rushed to my room crying. I closed my door and went to my fluffy (毛茸茸的) bed. My bed sheets were blue, were as fluffy as a baby rabbit's fur, and usually helped me relax but not on this occasion. I had so much anger that I threw my glass cup on the floor.
“What happened here?” Mom asked to herself. My mom came in a few minutes later. She said that the way I was acting wasn't the right way to act. My mom started talking about how my new sister was having a really hard time. She said that her parents had unfortunately died in an earthquake, so she had to go to a foster (寄养的) home. A few days later, she got adopted by some people who treated her badly. They didn't give her enough food or water and treated her like a slave. She had to do all the housework in the house until one day she got tired of being treated poorly and escaped to the forest, and that was where they found her.
It was night, and I was in my bed when suddenly I felt like there was a thousand pounds on my eyelashes (睫毛). I couldn't keep them open, so I closed them. It was night, and I suddenly woke up and felt the ground move; I was scared and wanted to go to my parents' room. The shaking stopped, so I went to look for my parents, but I couldn't find them. Suddenly my eyelashes felt heavy. When I opened my eyes, I was on a farm. I was there for a few days with a horrible woman who never gave me food and treated me like a slave.

Paragraph 1:
I felt the same way my sister felt: angry, sad, and hurt. At this moment, I felt very sorry for her. It was wrong for me to make parents only think of me. I experienced the bad times she had gone through. So I wasn't tired of her. If I lost my parents in the earthquake, maybe I was the same as her. That was terrible. Therefore, the next morning, my mom and I were waiting for her at the gate of my room.
Paragraph 2:
When I saw her, I respected her, because I knew she had been treated as a slave. After my dad took her to the gate, we shook her hands warmly. “Hi, my name is Daniela, but you can call me Dani,” I said excitedly. “Hi, my name is Violet,” she replied eagerly. Though she was shorter than I, she looked very strong and I wondered whether I could be as strong as her. Then, I took her to my room, where we talked a long time, and we soon became the best friends and sisters.课外拓展阅读——中国优秀传统文化专题练

What shall we do if we see someone injured in an accident First aid is the most necessary thing we should give to him.
When we do first aid, we must pay attention to three important things. First we must make sure whether the person is still breathing. Open his mouth to see if there is any food at the back of his mouth. Then try our best to start the person's breathing within a few minutes, or he will die. Try to repeat the mouth-to-mouth way as often as necessary. Finally, if we see a person bleeding badly we must press a handkerchief onto the bleeding point and hold it to stop the bleeding. For if a person loses one-third of his blood he may die.
First aid is also important in our daily life, for accidents may happen at home. For example, if a person is bitten by an animal, we must have him wash the wound with cold running water before going to see a doctor. When a person is burnt or cut,we should let him wash the area of his burn or cut under the cold tap and put a piece of dry clean cloth over it. But if it is serious, go to the hospital for medical care. In a word, every one of us should manage to know something about first aid so we could save other people's lives.

Australian researchers have studied records of 105 plane crashes and interviews with more than 2,000 survivors of traffic accidents, and outlined the following self-help tips.
First, sit with your family but escape separately. About 50 percent of passengers travel with at least one companion. If you are traveling with your family, try not to sit separately because in an emergency, families who are separated will try to reunite before they escape, thus missing the best time to escape. However, it is best to escape separately because it will improve your chances of survival.
Second, have your seat belts securely fastened. The shoulder belt should be worn closely against the body, over the shoulder, across the chest, and never under the arms. It should not be too close to your shoulder joint, which may cause the belt easily to slip off. It is best to wear the belt two fingers away from your shoulder joint. The lap belt should be firm against the body and low across the hips in order to prevent collision forces from hurting your viscera. Make sure both belts are fastened closely against the body.
Third, find the nearest exit on board. A study found that the average distance a survivor will take in an escape is seven seat rows, so choose a passage seat within this range. If not available, count exactly how many rows you are from the nearest exit in advance, so that you can find your exit in the dark or in smoke.
Fourth, sit backwards on trains. Seats on military aircrafts normally face backwards so that soldiers are less likely to be bumped and injured in the head in the event of a crash. The same theory applies to trains.

Sunstroke is a condition that can quickly go from dangerous to deadly, especially if proper care isn't given immediately.
Sunstroke, sometimes called heatstroke, is a result of the body temperature rising above the safe limit. This causes the body's necessary functions to stop working.
It's usually pretty easy to avoid sunstroke, as long as proper action is taken. In that case, you need to act as quickly as possible to return that person's body to a safe temperature. Here are a few tips to help treat sunstroke.
Call for help
Call to get an ambulance as quickly as possible. This should be the first thing you do, especially if the sunstroke person has fainted. Also, call for help from anyone nearby if you're in a public place. If there's no one around, call someone nearby if they can get there sooner than an ambulance. Ask everyone to bring you as much water as possible, if there isn't much nearby.
Get the person to a cooler area
If there's a building nearby, aim for that. Anywhere with plenty of air conditioners and water is perfect. If a building isn't available, bring the person to a well-shaded area.
Get the water flowing
If the person is still conscious, get him or her to drink water. If there's a bathtub available, fill it with cool water and put the person in it.
If your water supply is limited, you have to save it. Dampen a towel or shirt and put it on the person's body. Focus on the face, neck, and chest.
Fan the person
Getting moving air over the person cools him or her down. Use anything, a towel or sheet, a shirt, your hands, or a piece of board. This is where having many people around really helps, as they can combine to fan the entire body.

Meet Liam Mills, the first aid specialist who provides life-saving support at festivals and events, and he's just 16 years old.
A bit young to be a first aider, aren't you
You might think that, but in fact I've been doing this for almost a year now. I already have a huge amount of valuable experience.
Why did you join the British Red Cross
I've always been interested in first aid, so when I saw some Red Cross volunteers at a local event I went over for a quick talk. After hearing what they had to say, I jumped at the chance of joining.
What's the big attraction
As soon as you've treated an injured man, you will never look back. I've treated many types of injury now, from cut fingers to even heart disease cases. It's endlessly challenging and interesting.
What have you learned
I'm now a skilled volunteer, which means I have additional qualifications on top of my standard first aid certificate. For example, I'm qualified to use Entonox (laughing gas) for pain management.First aid with the Red Cross is a whole lot more than just cleaning and dressing wounds.
Any stand-out memories
Once, my colleague and I attended a call. As we approached the scene, all I could see was someone lying perfectly still on the floor. When you realise that someone is helpless and completely depending on you to do the right thing, you feel this sudden rush of responsibility. But fortunately, our training means we have the confidence and knowledge to deal with such situations.
Best thing about being an event first aider
You get to help people, while also enjoying the chance of going to lots of great events. It really is a win-win situation.

Odis Banks was on his way to paying a bill in a shopping center and ended up saving a man's life.
He shared his story on Facebook:
I was on my way to paying a bill in the shopping center located between Samuel and Buckner in Pleasant Grove. I ended up sitting in the turning lane to enter the parking lot for 5 minutes, listening to car drivers honk their car horns and roll down their car windows to yell “get out of the way” and watched cars back up and go around a white Chevy truck.
I was like everyone else at first, ready for the truck to move out of the way. As I was turning I noticed that the guy that was driving was not moving. I drove on into the lot but before I got to the first speed bump I went to check. So I turned my car around and parked on the outskirts of the lot, got out and walked to the curb to see if anyone in the truck was moving but no one was. I decided to try to get 4 lanes of traffic to stop and allow me to get to the vehicle. As I reached the truck I could see a man sitting there with his eyes wide open but when I said something to him he was unresponsive. I kept telling him to pull over and talk to me if something was wrong but still no response.
His window was rolled down and it was raining. His clothes were drenched (使湿透) so I thought he had been rained on but no, no, no, he was drenched in sweat. I told him I was going to reach in and unlock his door and not to hit me. No response still. It seemed as if he was in a coma (昏迷). As I opened the door his foot came off the brakes and his truck started rolling forward. I had to stop the truck by punching the brakes with my hand and reach over to make the truck park. Seeing that he began having a seizure, I called up the ambulance.
Paragraph 1:
This man was probably unconscious.
Paragraph 2:
Maybe 3 minutes after getting him onto that truck bed he started spitting and coughing up blood.
[精彩范文]
Paragraph 1:
This man was probably unconscious. I picked him up, readjusted him and just started walking back to the other side of the street not thinking or worrying about the cars that were whizzing by until a group of drivers realized what I was doing and brought the moving vehicles to a halt. I crossed 4 lanes of traffic to get this man to the grass where I laid him down, and them returned to the truck to get it out of the street, parking it near my car. A few minutes later about 6 cars were there to help. Three of the people that got out were nurses.
Paragraph 2:
Maybe 3 minutes after getting him onto that truck bed he started spitting and coughing up blood. By the time the paramedics arrived he had come to himself. They took him into the ambulance, started running tests and found that his blood sugar level had dropped and would have died if something weren't done immediately because he was in a diabetic coma. I thank God for putting me in the right place at the right time.

The saving of Miss Penni, our beloved hen, took place many years ago.
It was a cold winter. The freezing wind howled wildly all night. The snow was blinding, and we couldn't see much from the house as we looked toward the pasture. When the morning came, my three small children and I got up and put on warm socks, slippers, robes, long-sleeved shirts, blankets and made our way to the windows facing north. The wind blew hard from the west, and the snow made it hard for us to see the hen house.
As we peered out the window, narrowing our eyes and adjusting to the whiteout, we saw that the hen house was gone. Miss Penni and her two friends had been blown away by the cold northwest wind that still rattled our old farmhouse.
I let my imagination race for a moment. It felt as though we'd traveled back in time to the early 1800s, and a great storm had upset our delicate balance in an Illinois winter. We would need to go outside, pump the water, slop the hogs (we didn't have any), or make a long walk to the outhouses. I shook the fantasy off and came back to reality. I looked at the emptiness outside to make sure I wasn't missing something.
Then I saw it. No, I saw them—all three chickens—perched around the rim of a white 5-gallon bucket. I couldn't believe my eyes! How was this whipping, violent wind not dashing them into the field beyond A miracle, I thought.
I opened the back room closet door and pulled on my husband's long snow pants and heavy winter coat. I pulled the hood up, wrapped a yellow and black scarf around my neck and stuck my feet into Roger's very large boots.
Paragraph 1:
I was alone, saving chickens for my children.
Paragraph 2:
Absent were their usual fluttering of wings and their fear of man, beast or any other creature.

Paragraph 1:
I was alone, saving chickens for my children. They stared out the north window into the vast white sea of snow, their eyes peeling for any sign of movement. Pushing my way forward to the white, almost invisible bucket was difficult. As the snow swirled around me, I steadily made my way to the soft sound my chickens always made. When I reached them, I saw that their little feet were firmly clutching the rim of the bucket, and heads bent forward and away from the freezing wind.
Paragraph 2:
Absent were their usual fluttering of wings and their fear of man, beast or any other creature. They were hanging on for dear life, and fear didn't matter anymore. I quickly unzipped Roger's heavy coat, gently lifted each chickens and stuffed it carefully into the warm inside. After I had all three warming up inside my coat, I began the freezing walk back to the small shed directly behind our house. The doors to the shed were difficult to open, but somehow I managed to pull them apart. One by one I laid my chickens on the cold floor. As I shut the doors, my eyes went directly to the window where my children were watching. They jumped up and down, cheering for me.(共48张PPT)

Bethany Simpson, a pupil at St Columb Major Academy, Cornwall, bravely stepped in when her stepfather Robert Hoskins stopped breathing on March 15. She delivered CPR before the ambulance arrived.
Bethany's mother Jane and Robert were watching TV in bed when both of them had fallen asleep, but Jane woke up and noticed Robert's breathing had become weak and hard. Jane quickly called 999 and followed the operator's advice, including moving him onto his side to make him more comfortable. But when Robert stopped breathing completely and the operator told her to give CPR, Jane completely froze.
“I panicked (恐慌) and said ‘I can't do it’,” said Jane. “Fortunately, Bethany heard me scream, came into the bedroom and said ‘It's OK, Mum. I know what to do.’ She was so confident and took charge.” Bethany performed CPR that kept Robert alive.
Robert, who is now recovering at home, said, “I would just like to sincerely thank St John Ambulance for teaching the children first aid. If it wasn't for them and Bethany, I wouldn't be here.” The ten-year-old says she doesn't believe she is a hero. “I'm just glad my dad is still here,” she added.
Both Robert and Jane believe the government should ask all schools to teach first aid. “This incident just shows why it's important to teach everyone first aid—especially in schools,” said Jane.“Without my daughter and the training St John Ambulance gave her, Robert would be dead and I would be heartbroken. I'm so proud of Bethany and so grateful.”

(·泉州市城东中学高二检测)Last week after my motorcycle crashed on the freeway, I wanted only two simple things from technology: to call 911 and to tell loved ones where I could be found. 1 When she opened Google Maps, she could see precisely where I was.
For years, tech companies have offered different ways for people to tell one another where they are. 2 If used carelessly, location tracking may hurt your privacy. But used thoughtfully, it can be a powerful and efficient communication tool. 3
·When you make plans to meet friends somewhere like a movie theater, get into the habit of sharing your location for a short duration, like an hour. This way you can skip saying things like “I'm on my way” or “I'm running a few minutes behind” because people can simply follow you on the map.
· 4 Location sharing can be useful for being considerate of your partner's time and space. For example, I am less likely to text my partner when I see she is at the office or driving on a freeway, but I will text when I see she is at the grocery store to ask her to pick something up.
·Next time you plan an event at a large outdoor space, do your friends a favor: 5 Wandering around aimlessly in a crowded open space can be annoying.
A.Here are my suggestions for the best time to use it.
B.For safety reasons, avoid sharing your location publicly.
C.Use an app to share your current location so they can find you.
D.Consider sharing your location occasionally with your partner.

His son came running and whispered something in his ear, “Don't be worried. I sold it yesterday and at a very good price. The offer was so good, and I could not wait for you. Forgive me.”
The father said, “Thank God, it's not ours now!” Then he became relaxed and stood as a silent watcher, just like other watchers.
Then the second son came running, and he said to the father, “What are you doing The house is on fire and you are only watching it burn?” The father said, “Don't you know your brother has sold it?”
He said, “We have taken only advance amount, not settled fully. I doubt now that the man is going to purchase it.”
Tears which had disappeared came back to the father's eyes, and his heart started to beat fast. And then the third son came, and he said, “That man is a man of his word. I have just come from him. He said, ‘It doesn't matter whether the house is burnt or not, it is mine. And I am going to pay the price that I have settled for. Neither you nor I knew that the house would catch fire.’”
