A man sat at an underground station in Washington, D.C., and started to play the violin. It was a cold day in January. He played six Bach (巴赫) pieces for about 45 minutes. Thousands of people went through the station in a hurry, most of them on their way to work.
Three minutes went by and the first person, a middle-aged man, noticed there was a musician playing. He slowed down and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried up to go to work.
After a minute, the violinist received his first dollar: a young woman threw the money in the box and continued to walk. Then another few minutes went by and someone stood against the wall to listen to him, but the young man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work.
During the musician's performance, only a few people gave response(反应) to him: six people stopped and stayed for a while, twenty gave him money but continued to walk. When he finished playing, no one applauded(鼓掌). No one knew the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world.
This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing in the underground station was organized by The Washington Post (《华盛顿邮报》)as part of a social experiment (实验). What are you holding in your hand while you are taking the examination Right. A pen.
Though it is small, the pen has changed the history, improved the trade of countries, recorded events, carried news, and done far more work for human beings than all other tools.
Progress without it would have been almost impossible. The invention of the wheel, the introduction of the steam engine(蒸汽机), the use of electricity, all these have changed the lives of millions of people, but the pen has done more. It has taken away mountains, and it has prepared the way for all progress and development of the society.
In the past the pen did all the work if you wanted to keep any writing for some time. The lawyers took up their pens and wrote the law of the country from the days when papyrus(纸莎草纸) was first used. The most famous letters in the world were written with a pen. It was with a pen that the greatest thinkers of all time wrote down their thoughts.
The pen is very utilitarian. We cannot sign a bill or write a letter or buy a house without our pen. An agreement is worthless till our name is written with a pen. The writers encourage the world with it. The students take their examinations with it as well.
Our coming into the world is recorded with a pen. Before we have been at school, our name is written on the name list with a pen. We cannot be married till we have signed. A pen records the important events in our life.
Let us remember that we hold in our hand the most powerful instrument that man owns. The pen is a magic tool. Whenever you use it, enjoy it.

Zoology is everything about animals. And people who study it are called zoologists. They want to learn about the difference between different kinds of animals, where they come from, and how they live.
What do zoologists do
There are many different kinds of zoologists. Some try to learn everything about one animal, and some learn about a group of animals, some try to understand where new kinds of animals come from, and other zoologists are interested in how animals can get sick. Many zoologists study what animals do when they are with other animals.
A famous zoologist
Charles Darwin is probably the most famous zoologist. He showed that animals are all one big family and that every kind of animal changes slowly to match the place where they live. This is called "evolution (进化)". During his life, people laughed at Darwin, saying that people and animals couldn't come from the same family. However, many zoologists today agree that Darwin was right.
