1. Why does Professor Salovey say “it is IQ that gets you employed, but it is EQ that gets you promoted
Professor Salovey means that when doing interviews, interviewers often focus on your IQ level or how clever you are. But in real working situation, your boss focuses more on your EQ. i.e. “people skills”. Professor Salovey means EQ matters more than IQ in real working situation.

8. 强调句型
(1)基本结构:It is/was + 被强调部分+ that + 其他;若强调的是人, 也可以用who 替换that;
( 2)可以强调句子的主语、宾语、表语、状语等,若强调谓语动词, 需借助助动词do/does/did;
( 3)强调句的一般疑问句式:Is/Was it +被强调部分 + that +其他;
( 4)强调句的特殊疑问句式:特殊疑问词 + is/was it + that + 其他;若该结构用于宾语从句,则要用陈述语序。

过去分词(短语)作状语,表示动作发生的背景或情况,其逻辑主语就是句子的主语。过去分词(短语)在句中作状语可以表示时间、原因、条件、让步、方式或伴随等。
1 表示时间
过去分词(短语)作时间状语,相当于一个时间状语从句。
Heated,ice will be changed into water. = When it is heated,ice will be changed into water.
Asked what had happened,the critic kept silent.
While given a physical examination,you should keep calm.
When completed,the boarding school will be open to the students next year.

6 使用过去分词的注意事项
(1)过去分词(短语)作状语,前面可以带有相应的连词,如 when, until,though/although,as if/though,if,unless,表时间、让步、方式、条件等。
When asked,he pretended to know nothing about this matter.
He could focus more on his studies if left alone.
( 2)句子主语与过去分词(短语)之间存在被动关系,与现在分词(短 语)之间存在主动关系。
Guided by the girl,we finally found the clown in the circus.
Following in his father’s footsteps,he chose to study astronomy at university.
3)过去分词(短语)作状语时,其主语与句子的主语要一致。如果 主语不一致,要在分词前加上逻辑主语,构成独立主格结构。

(4)有些过去分词已形容词化,作状语时表示主语的某种情绪或 状态。常见的这类形容词化的过去分词有satisfied,surprised, interested,moved,worried,pleased,disappointed,lost 等。

分词作状语记忆口诀:
分词作状语,主语是问题。
逗号前后两动作,共用一主语。
