Kobe Chinese School, an international school in the Japanese city of Kobe. It provides primary and junior high school education from Grades 1—9 with classes being taught in Japanese or Chinese depending on the subject. Most students are children of overseas Chinese people. They are also taught aspects of Chinese culture such as paper-cutting, Chinese cooking and Tai Chi. After graduating from the nine-year education program, the students went to a high school in Japan.
In May 1899, Liang Qichao called on overseas Chinese to build a school in Kobe. In March 1900, the school was completed, and the school was named Kobe Overseas Chinese Tongwen School. Students at Kobe Chinese School have the chance to go back to China for graduation trips and a trip to find their roots. It is for the purpose of letting those students who grow up in Japan and only get a one-sided understanding from Japanese TV programs experience the real, three-dimensional and comprehensive China.
