In a recent study, the investigators compared social media use and depression among teens.
①________ Specifically, for every hour per day that one teen spent on social media more than his peers, he likely had a 0.64 point higher the depression score.
A different study published in 2018 identified five distinct types of social media users. The finding was that "problematic social media use" was one of the main themes for people whose mental health was affected by social media. You can have alcohol in your life without it being a problem, or your alcohol use may become problematic. ②________

④________ If you think that we shouldn't paint social media with one broad brush, you're on the right track. On the one hand, participants often described social media as a valuable way to cope with stress. On the other hand, cyberbullying via social media was also a common experience for participants. Some also said that constantly checking their own social media profile was stressful.
It's certainly possible that experiences like cyberbullying, comparing yourself to idealized images, and constantly monitoring your profile, are bad for your mood. It's also true for many that social media offer community support and positive messages. Given the inconclusive research, it's safe to say that at least we shouldn't write off social media altogether. ⑤________ Anyway, you cannot use it as a crutch for coping with other stressors and mental health problems.
A. The same is true of social media.
B. Social media can be a double-edged sword.
C. People get more opinionated about the potential problems of social media.
D. They found that those who used social media more had higher depression scores.
E. They reviewed all existing research and found that there were both benefits and drawbacks.
F. The key to benefiting from social media may lie in using them in moderation and staying socially connected.
G. For example, it doesn't mean social media use causes depression just because higher social media use co-occurs with higher levels of depression.

11. In our fast world of phones, fax machines and computers, the old-fashioned art of letter writing is at risk of disappearing altogether. ①_____ There is the excitement of its arrival, the pleasure of seeing who it is from and, finally, the enjoyment of the contents.
Letter writing has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. It probably began with the little notes I would write to my mother. My mother, also, always insisted I write my own thank-you letters for Christmas and birthday presents. ②_____
When I left home at 18 to train as a doctor in London, I would write once a week, and so would my mother. Occasionally my father would write and it was always a joy to receive his long, amusing letters. ③_____ Of course, we also made phone calls but it is the letters I remember most.
There were also letters from my friends. In our youth he had to work or study away at some time and I was only able to stay in touch with them by letter. ④_____ I found that I could often express myself more easily in writing than by talking. I love the letters that come with birthday or Christmas cards. Notes are appreciated, but how much better to have a year's supply of news! And it's better still when it's an airmail envelope with beautiful stamps.
⑤_____ Like my mother before me, I insist they write their own thank-you letters. My daughter writes to me little letters, just as I did to my mother. I strongly urge readers not to allow letter writing to become another "lost art".
A. Poor handwriting can spoil (破坏) your enjoyment of a letter.
B. I am pleased that my children are carrying on the tradition.
C. We had been writing to each other for a long time but never met.
D. It didn't matter how short or untidy they were as long as they were letters.
E. But instead of harming the relationship, letter writing seemed to improve them.
F. Yet, to me, receiving a letter cannot be matched by any form of communication.
G. The letters from him contained just everyday events concerning my parents and their friends.
12. As Internet users become more dependent on the Internet to store information, are people remembering less If you know your computer will save information, why store it in your own personal memory—your brain Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how.
In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow conducted some experiments. She and her research team wanted to know whether the Internet is changing memory. In the first experiment, they gave people 40 unimportant facts to type into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would save the information. The second group understood that the computer would not save it. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it.
In another experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the Internet. The information was in a specific computer folder (文件夹). Surprisingly, people later remembered the folder location better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. Rather, they remember how to find it. This is called "transactive (交互) memory".
According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memory as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memory; that is, people are learning how to organize huge quantities of information so that they are able to access it at a later date. This doesn't mean we are becoming either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.
1.The passage begins with two questions to ________.
A.introduce the main topic B.show the author's attitude
C.describe how to use the Internet D.explain how to store information
2.What can we learn about the first experiment
A.Sparrow's team typed the information into a computer.
B.The two groups remembered the information equally well.
C.The first group did not try to remember the information.
D.The second group did not understand the information.
3.In transactive memory, people _______.
A.keep the information in mind B.change the quantity of information
C.organize information like a computer D.remember how to find the information
4.What is the effect of the Internet according to Sparrow's research
A.We are using memory differently. B.We are becoming more intelligent.
C.We have poorer memory than before. D.We need a better way to access information.
2.答案:Popularity
3.答案:concentration
4.答案:meaningful
5.答案:harmful
6.答案:It is;that
7.答案:bring people closer together
8.答案:make himself heard
9.答案:No matter when
10.答案:so touching a story
In our fast world of phones, fax machines and computers", 电话、传真机和电脑都是人与人沟通的方式,且该段最后一句提到作者很享受收到信、看到收信人并且享受信的内容,结合前后文的内容,作者偏爱写信这一与其他沟通方式不同的传统艺术。F项"Yet, to me, receiving a letter cannot be matched by any form of communication"(然而,对我来说,任何形式的沟通方式也不能与收到一封信的感觉相匹配)中提到的"any form of communication"即指代第一句中出现的电话、传真、电脑等交流方式。
It didn't matter how short or untidy they were as long as they were letters"(只要是字母,无论长短或是凌乱都不重要),根据前文可知,作者从很小可能都不会写字的时候就开始写信,有可能字迹非常潦草,但真正重要的是作者家中写作这一传统。
Occasionally my father would write and it was always a joy to receive his long, amusing letters",作者有时候也会收到父亲写的长长的、有趣的信。G项"The letters from him contained just everyday events concerning my parents and their friends"(他的信件只包含有关父母和他们朋友之间的日常)中提到的him指代的是前文中"my father"。
I found that I could often express myself more easily in writing than by talking", 作者认为写信比说话更容易表达自己。 But instead of harming the relationship, letter writing seemed to improve them"(但是,写信并没有损害这种关系,反而改善了这种关系)起承上启下的作用。
Like my mother before me, I insist they write their own thank-you letters. My daughter writes to me little letters, just as I did to my mother", 作者也会像她妈妈一样要求自己的孩子写感谢信,就像作者小时候与她妈妈做的那样。 I am pleased that my children are carrying on the tradition"(我很高兴我的孩子也继承发扬着这个传统)为此段的中心句。故选B。
Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how. 故选A。
People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it. Later, the second group remembered the information better.
Rather, they remember how to find it. This is called "transactive(交互)memory".
故选A

12. One day a man found a cocoon (茧) of a butterfly in the forest. He sat there for several hours and watched the butterfly. Suddenly a small opening appeared, and the butterfly struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly.
He took a pair of scissors and cut off the remaining bit of the cocoon so that the butterfly could come out easily. Much to his surprise, the butterfly got a swollen body but very small, weak wings when it came out of the cocoon.
The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that the body would grow smaller at any moment and the wings would enlarge and be able to support the body. But neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and small wings. It was never able to fly.
The man was in his kindness, but he did not understand the nature rules. The struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening was God's way of forcing fluid (流体)from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to go through our life without any difficulties, it would make us fail. We would not be as strong as we could have been. And we could never fly.
1. In the first paragraph the butterfly was _____.
A. flying in the forest
B. playing with the man
C. making a cocoon for itself
D. trying to get out of the cocoon
