appear [ p (r)]
(1)v. 登场，扮演（本文意思）
eg. The singer can’t appear tonight because of his illness.
这个歌手今晚因为生病不能登台演出了。
(2) v. 出现 （反：disappear 消失 ）
eg. The plane appeared. / The plane disappeared.
飞机出现了。/飞机消失了。
(3) 似乎，看起来好像（系动词，后面必须 + 形容词）
eg. He appeared nervous. 他看起来很紧张。
He appeared to know you. 他似乎认识你。
stage [ste d ] n. 舞台，时期
eg. backstage 后台
on the stage 在舞台上
in the stage 在某一阶段（时期）
bright [bra t] adj.
明亮的 （反：dim 昏暗的）
eg. What a bright room! 多明亮的一个房间啊！
bright eyes 明亮的眼睛
bright and early 一大早，一清早
look at the bright side
往好的方面看，持乐观态度
鲜艳的
eg. bright red 大红色
bright yellow 嫩黄色
bright blue 宝蓝色
聪明的 = clever（修饰人）

My aunt Jennifer is an actress.
我的姑姑詹妮弗是位演员。
形容词性物主代词（后面必须跟名词）：
my,your,his,her,its, our, your, their
名词性物主代词（后面不能跟名词）：
mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, yours,theirs
eg. This is my bag. = This bag is mine.
aunt 阿姨，婶婶… (ant 蚂蚁)
uncle 叔叔，舅舅… (ankle 脚踝)
actor 男演员 —— actress 女演员
airhostess 空姐
waiter 男服务员 —— waitress 女服务员
prince 王子 —— princess 公主
lion 公狮 —— lioness 母狮
tiger 雄老虎 —— tigress 雌老虎，凶悍的女人
She must be at least thirty-five (years old).
她至少也有35岁了。

My four-year-old daughter Sally. (作定语：用来修饰名词的)

must 必须
must be 一定是，肯定是（表推测）
情态动词表动词：
eg. She must be my daughter. 一定是，肯定是
She could be/ may be/ might be my daughter. 可能是
She may not be/ might not be my daughter. 可能不是
She can’t be/ could not be my daughter. 不可能是
(can— could, may — might)
(表推测：can无肯定，may无疑问)
In spite of this, she often appears on the stage as a young girl.

soon 不久（一般将来时态）
This time, she will be a girl of seventeen.
这一次，她将扮演一个17岁的少女。
She is 17 (years old).
= She is a girl of 17.
In the play, she must appear in a bright red dress and long black stockings.
演出时她必须穿一条鲜红色的裙子和黑色的长筒袜。
in + 颜色/衣物：穿着…颜色/衣物 ( = wear 穿着)
eg. in a dress / in bright red
She must appear in a bright red dress.
= She must wear a bright red dress.
eg. a man in a hat 一个戴帽子的男子（一册L:121）
Last year in another play, she had to wear short socks and a bright, orange-coloured dress.
去年在演另一个剧时，她不得不穿短袜和一件鲜艳的橘红色的衣服。
another 另一个（众多）(an other)
the other 另一个（两者中）
had to 不得不（一般过去时态 have had had）
= must
形容词组合 ：
eg. orange–coloured 亮橙色
kind–hearted 好心的
cold- blooded 冷血的
ice–covered 被冰覆盖的
hand–made 手工制作的
If anyone ever asks her （how old she is,宾语从句/间接引语）， she always answers, ‘Darling, it must be terrible to be grown up!'
一旦有人问起她有多大年纪，她总是回答：“亲爱的，长成大人
真可怕啊！”
if引导的条件句（真实条件句）
宾语从句：陈述句语序
must be 一定是，肯定是（情态动词表推测）
grow 生长，长大
grow up 长大
eg. She has two grown-up sons. 她有2个成年的儿子
terrible (adj.) 可怕的，糟糕的
eg. terrible toothache 可怕的牙痛
terribly (adv.) 极其地
eg. terribly hot 热得要命
= very hot
