too 也，太（否）
too…(to…) 太…以致于不能…
eg. Never too old to learn. 活到老，学到老。
(never 从不——否定词)
The plane was late and detectives were waiting at the airport all morning.
飞机误点了，侦探们在机场等了整整一上午。
were waiting
过去进行时态：be动词+动词现在分词 （was/were + doing）
现在进行时态：be动词+动词现在分词 (am/is/are + doing)
all morning = all the morning 整个上午
They were expecting a valuable parcel of diamonds from South Africa.
他们正期待从南非来的一个装着钻石的贵重包裹。
were expecting (过去进行时态)
Africa 非洲
African 非洲人
A few hours earlier, someone had told the police （that thieves would try to steal the diamonds.）
数小时以前，有人向警方报告，说有人企图偷走这些钻石。
少：
few +[c]（几乎没有，视作否定词）

had told（过去完成时态）
过去完成时态：had + done
现在完成时态：have/has + done
that 那个
that在本文中是连词，连接“宾语从句”，同时也是一个间接引语。
thief小偷（单数）——thieves(复数)
would try (过去将来时——在间接引语中)
will try (一般将来时态——在直接引语中)
try to do sth. 尝试做某事
When the plane arrived, some of the detectives were waiting inside the main building while others were waiting on the airfield.

when 当（conj.）（引导时间状语从句）+ 延续性动词/瞬间动词

Two men took the parcel off the plane and carried it into the Customs House.
有两个人把包裹拿下飞机，进了海关。
take off 脱下（衣物），取下，起飞
反：put on 穿上

While two detectives were keeping guard at the door, two others opened the parcel.
这时两个侦探把住门口，另外两个侦探打开了包裹。
while (conj.)当（引导时间状语从句）
(此处可以用when替换)

keep guard = stand guard 站岗
other 其他（单数）

others = other + 复数名词
To their surprise, the precious parcel was full of stones and sand!
