★ hurry [ h ri] (hurried hurried)
(1)v.匆忙 (去往某地)
eg. I went to the cinema yesterday. 昨天我去了电影院。
I hurried to the cinema yesterday.
昨天我匆忙地赶去电影院。
Hurry up !快点!
eg. Hurry up ,or we will be late.
快点,否则我们要迟到了。
Take your time! 慢点!
(2) n. 匆忙
eg. In his hurry, he dropped some coins on the floor.
他匆忙地掉了几枚硬币在地上。
He hurried out. 他匆忙地出去了。
= He went out in a hurry.
★ ticket office [ t k t f s] 售票处
ticket (n.) 票子,罚款单
office (n.) 办公室 —— officer (n.) 官员
OL = office lady 女白领
eg. book a ticket 预订
box office 售票亭
pity [ p ti] n. 令人遗憾的事
eg. What a pity (it is)! 真遗憾!(感叹句)
eg. He missed the journey is a pity.(错误)
It is a pity (that he missed the journey.主语从句)
他错过旅行是遗憾的。
It is a pity (not) to do sth. 做某事遗憾
eg. It is a pity to miss the journey.
It is a pity not to go to the wedding.
没能参加婚礼是遗憾的。
exclaim [ k skle m] v. 大声说
eg. When she saw the gift, she exclaimed in delight.
当她看到礼物的时候,她兴奋地大叫起来。
exclamation(n.) 惊叹
eg. exclamation mark 感叹号

(1)vi. 返回 = go back/come back
eg. go back to the hotel = return to the hotel 回酒店
go back home = return home 回家
(2)vt. 返还,退货 = give back
eg. return the ticket 归还票子,退票
return the money = pay back 还钱
sadly [ s dli] adv. 悲哀地, 丧气地(修饰动词)
sad (adj.) 悲哀的(修饰名词)
eg. There is a sad boy. 有一个悲伤的小男孩。(作定语)
The boy is sad. 这个男孩悲伤。(作表语)
eg. The boy returned sadly. 这个男孩悲伤地回来了。
= The boy sadly returned.
= Sadly, the boy returned.

1、‘The play may begin at any moment,' I said.
“剧马上就要开演了, ”我说。
may begin 可能开始(情态动词对现在表推测)
= might begin
at any moment 随时,在任何时候
eg. It may rain at any moment. 天随时会下雨。
moment (n.) 时刻,片断
eg. at this moment 现在(现在进行时态)
at that moment 在那时(一般过去时态)
Wait for a moment please. 等我一会儿。
2、‘It may have begun already,’Susan answered.
“也许已经开演了呢,”苏珊回答说。
may / might + have done 可能已经…(情态动词对过去表推测)
may have begun 可能已经开始了
= might have begun
(begin began begun 开始)
already 已经(现在完成时态的标志词)
情态动词表推测(对现在)
(1) 一定是,肯定是 must be
(2)可能是 can be/could be/may be /might be
(can无肯定,may无疑问)
(3)可能不是 may not be/ might not be
(4)不可能是 can’t be/ couldn’t be
情态动词表推测(对过去)
(1) 一定是,肯定是 must have be
(2)可能是 can have been/could have been/
may have been /might have been
(can无肯定,may无疑问)
(3)可能不是 may not have been/ might not have been
(4)不可能是 can’t have been/ couldn’t have been
3、I hurried to the ticket office. ‘May I have two tickets please ' I asked.
我匆匆赶到售票处,问:“我可以买两张票吗?”
I hurried to the ticket office. (v.)
= I went to the ticket office in a hurry.(n.)
May I… 我可以…吗?(礼貌地问法。)
eg. What’s your name 你叫什么名字?
May I have your name (客气、礼貌地问法。)
have two tickets = buy two tickets 买2张票子
情态动词can与may:
can —— could(过去式)
表能力:能够 (could表过去的能力)
eg. I can not speak English. 我不会说英语。
I could not speak English. 我过去不会说英语。
表允许:可以(could比can更加委婉、客气)
eg. Can I borrow your bike 我可以借你的自行车吗?
Could I borrow your bike 我可以借你的自行车吗?
表推测:不可能
(can表推测,不能用于肯定句中,could和can可以互换)
eg. He can’t be here. 他现在不可能在这儿。
= He couldn’t be here.
eg. He can’t have been here. 他当时不可能在这儿。
= He could’t have been here.
may —— might
表允许:可以
eg. May I borrow your bike
= Can I borrow your bike
= Could I borrow your bike
(一册L:29 May I come in = Can I come in = Could I come in )
(2)表推测:可能不(may 和might可以互换)
eg. He may/might (not) go to Shanghai at this moment.
他现在可能(没)去上海了。(对现在表推测)
eg. He may/might have gone to Shanghai at that moment.
那时候他可能已经去上海了。(对过去表推测)
4、‘I'm sorry, we've sold out,' the girl said.
“对不起,票已售完。”那位姑娘说。
we’ve sold out (sell sold sold 卖)
= we have sold out (现在完成时态:have/has + done)
sell out 卖完了
say said said
5、‘What a pity!’Susan exclaimed.
“真可惜!”苏珊大声说。
what 什么(特殊疑问词)
What + 名词 + (主语 + 谓语) !(感叹句)
eg. What a pity (it is)! = What a pity!
(pity 令人遗憾的事物)
eg. You are a good child. 你是一个好孩子。
What a good child you are! 你是多好的孩子啊!
eg. He received a huge parcel! 他收到了一个巨大的包裹!
What a huge parcel (he received)!
他收到这么大一个包裹啊!
exclaim (v.) 惊叹 exclaimed exclaimed
exclamation (n.) 感叹
eg. exclamation mark 感叹号
6、Just then, a man hurried to the ticket office.
正在这时,一个男子匆匆奔向售票处。
just then 正在这时(一般过去时态的标志词)
= at that moment
hurried to the ticket office
= ran to the ticket office
= rushed to the ticket office
7、‘Can I return these two tickets ’he asked.
“我可以退掉这两张票吗?”他问。
Can I return these two tickets (return 退货)
= May I return these two tickets
= Could I return these two tickets
8、‘Certainly,' the girl said.
“当然可以,”那姑娘说。
certainly 当然
(一册L:41 Penny’s bag: It’s certainly not for me!)
9、I went back to the ticket office at once.
我马上又回到售票处。
go went gone
went back = returned 返回
at once 立刻,立即,马上
= immediately
polite 礼貌的—— impolite 不礼貌的
media 媒介
10、‘Could I have those two tickets please ’I asked.
“我可以买那两张票吗?”我问。
11、‘Certainly,' the girl said, ‘but they're for next Wednesday's performance. Do you still want them '
“当然可以,不过这两张票是下星期三的,你是否还要呢?”
此处的they指的是两张票子
12、‘I might as well have them,' I said sadly.
“我还是买下的好,”我垂头丧气地说。
may as well + 动词原形 :不妨…, 还是…好(表建议)
= might as well + 动词原形
eg. You may as well take an umbrella with you.
= You might as well take an umbrella with you.
你最好带把伞。
