What’s your biggest fear People have a lot of fears. But according to several recent surveys, the biggest fear for most people is the fear of making a speech in public. More than a fear of spiders (蜘蛛) or death, public speaking often causes people to start shaking, and even feel as if they are about to die. Many classes and jobs require people to make a good public speech. Luckily, we can get over the fear of public speaking in two simple ways: practice and using positive energy from the audience (观众).
Enough practice is the first key to getting over this fear. Most people are amazed at how comfortably they are giving a public speech once they have properly prepared and practiced. Some speakers stand in front of a mirror to practice their speech, but others prefer to have a video recording made by a friend or a family member. Speakers can watch the video again and again, paying attention to a different part of the speech each time. Elements such as speed and body language can get the attention they need. The result of enough practice is a more confident speaker and a more popular speech.
The second key to fighting against the fear successfully is to use positive energy from the audience. Speakers need to remember: no one wants to see them fail in front of a group. What’s more, a poor speech is not only uncomfortable for the speaker, but also uncomfortable for the audience. They want to see the speaker succeed because it is a more enjoyable experience for everyone. Speakers can look at the faces of the audience and search for that small nod of agreement or the slight smile, which is often enough to make the speakers relax.
Public speaking can be scary. However, it is an important skill. If you use these two simple ways, it is possible to get over the fear of public speaking and make a successful speech.
