To be a detective, you should learn to make inferences.
An inference is a conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning. It is an educated guess based on observation and background knowledge.

Yesterday, Tom and I had an unusual experience. When we were walking on the street, we saw a man running down the street. I thought he could be running for exercise, but Tom said that he might be late for work, because he was wearing a suit.
Just then, we saw something in the sky. Tom thought it could be a plane, but I thought it can’t be a plane because it was too big. In my opinion, it must be a UFO.
Then the UFO was landing and there was something strange getting out. We both believed that it must be an alien until we saw a woman with a camera. We guessed that she could be from the TV news. Finally, we were sure that they must be making a movie.
