【知识背景】
英国伦敦西南100多千米的索巨石阵,又称索尔兹伯里石环、环状列石、太阳神庙、史前石桌、斯通亨治石栏、斯托肯立石圈等名,是欧洲著名的史前时代文化神庙遗址,位于英格兰威尔特郡索尔兹伯里平原,约建于公元前4000~2000年(2008年3月至4月,英国考古学家研究发现,巨石阵的比较准确的建造年代在公元前2300年左右)的索尔兹伯里平原上,一些巍峨巨石呈环形屹立在绿色的旷野间,这就是英伦三岛最著名、最神秘的史前遗迹—巨石阵。
巨石阵(Stonehenge)由巨大的石头组成,每块约重50吨。它的主轴线、通往石柱的古道和夏至日早晨初升的太阳,在同一条线上;另外,其中还有两块石头的连线指向冬至日落的方向。

辨析:receive 和 accept
从含义上说,receive只表示“收到”这一客观事实;而accept则多了一层主观上“接受”的意味。如:
All the children will receive a gift.
Please accept this small gift.
The girl received many birthday presents from her friends, and she accepted them happily.
从搭配上说,在表示“接受教育(education)、受到欢迎(welcome)、得到支持(support)、接待客人(guest)”等时,通常用receive,而accept无此用法。如:
All the children at this age should receive education.
You will receive a warm welcome when you come to our school.

情态动词 用法 例句
must 表示很有把握的推测,“一定”,只用于肯定句。 The light is out. He must be sleeping.
could, may和might 表示不太有把握的推测,“可能”。 The pen could / may/ might be Joe’s. I saw it on his desk just now.
can’t 表示很有把握的否定推测,“不可能”。 The girl here can’t be Helen. Helen has gone to Beijing.
情态动词must,can,could,may和might均可表示推测,它们可以对过去、 现在或将来的情况作出语气强弱不同的推测。
1. 表肯定推测时,语气从弱到强:might → may → could → can → must。
2. 表否定推测时,can’t/couldn’t “不可能”,语气较强;may not/might not “可能不”,语气较弱。
注意:
mustn’t “禁止, 千万不要”,语气强烈。如:
John, you mustn’t play football on the street.
We should keep quiet in the library. We mustn’t speak loudly.
3. must 一定,准是。只用于肯定句中。如:
The light is off. He must be sleeping.
4. can多用否定句或疑问句中。could可用于各种句式。如:
The door is locked. He can’t be at home.
There could be life on some of the planets.
5. may/might用于肯定句和否定句中。如:
They may not know his address. I’m not sure about that.
She told me that she might go to Hawaii this winter.
对不同情况的推测
1. 情态动词+动词原形:对现在或将来的情况进行推测。如:
You must be tired after your long walk.
Don’t play with the knife. You could cut yourself.
Our team might win the basketball match.
2. 情态动词+ be +动词-ing形式:对此时此刻正在进行的情况进行推测。如:
There’s a lot of noise from next door. They must be having a party.
Mr. Li is not in his apartment. He might be working at his office.
3. 情态动词+ have +动词的过去分词:对过去的情况进行推测时。如:
I couldn’t have left my bag on the bus.
They must have got lost or they’d be here by now.
