牛津版(深圳 广州) 英语九年级上册期中专练-阅读理解(含解析)
Starting with this fall term, students in primary and middle schools will have at least one course every week on basic household skills such as cleaning and cooking, according to a new curriculum standard (课程标准) for labor education in compulsory (强制的;义务的) education made by the government. Should household skills be made compulsory at schools
Michael: By learning basic skills like cooking, cleaning and maintaining home appliances (电器) children can learn how to take care of themselves and live independently. Parents won’t always be there to help their children with every problem they’ll meet in their lives. They need to learn new things, make mistakes, solve problems and grow from their experiences. It is necessary for children to learn these important lifesaving skills as early as possible.
Eliza: Many students have to study for the whole day and simply don’t have the time to develop their interests. A compulsory household skills class can give them more chances to meet various aspects of life and help them discover different passions. Some children who are interested in food or those who have an interest in maintaining home appliances can develop these skills in the class.
Jade: There are only limited hours in a school day. With all the required classes there is not enough time for household courses. I think it is something that parents need to do at home with their children, having them help around the house with cooking, cleaning, washing, planting. etc. Remember school can’t teach your children everything. They need you, too!
Ben: Household courses should be made optional (可选择的) for students. They should be given the choice to take whatever they like. If one wants to cook dishes, he or she is welcome. But it should not be made compulsory and forced onto every student.
Linda: Schools should have cooking classes. Children will be taught about their food, where it comes from, how to use the cooking tools properly and how to cook nutritiously. Many parents don’t have this knowledge and have no time or energy to do this. A household class would provide the knowledge and training that parents are unable to give their children.
Maria: I learned some basic cooking skills from my mother, but most of them were learned after I graduated from college, from cooking books and online short videos. Household skills like cooking are much more useful than a lot of what is taught in schools, but it does require some fully equipped (配备齐全的) kitchens. I hope these classes will benefit (使受益) students and not be seen as window dressing.

Cheating(欺骗)can happen in a lot of different ways. When people cheat, it’s not fair to other people, like the kids who studied for the test or who the true winners of a game were.
Many people like the action of cheating. It makes difficult things seem easy, like getting all the right answers on the test. But it doesn’t solve the problem of not knowing the material and it won’t help on the next test--unless the person cheats again.
People lose respect for cheaters and think less of them. The cheaters themselves may feel bad because they know they are not really earning that good grade. And, if they get caught cheating, they will be in trouble at school, and may be at home, too.
Some kids cheat because they’re busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending time studying. Other kids might feel like they can’t pass the test without cheating, even when there seems to be a good reason for cheating, cheating isn’t a good idea.
If you were sick or upset about something the night before the day and couldn’t study, it would be better to talk with the teacher about this. And if you don’t have enough time to study for a test because of swim practice, you need to talk with your parents about how to balance swimming and school.
A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so they can find some solutions together. Talking about these problems and working them out will feel better than cheating.
4.The author thinks that when kids cheat in class, ______.
A.it is unfair to other people B.it does harm to their health
C.teachers should punish them D.teachers shouldn’t stop them at once
5.Some students like cheating mainly because______.
A.the material in the test is very difficult.
B.they want to do better than the others
C.cheating can make hard things seem very easy.
D.they have little time to study their lessons.
6.The fourth paragraph mainly tells us______.
A.some kids can’t pass the test without cheating
B.why kids cheat in the test
C.cheating isn’t a good idea
D.some kids don’t spend the time studying
7.We can learn from the passage _______.
A.cheaters are often thought highly of
B.people show no respect for those who cheat
C.parents whose kids cheat are often in trouble
D.kids cheat in the test because of swim practice
Chinese Astronaut Bridges Gender (性别) Gap (差距)
Wang Yaping, a 41-year-old female (女性) astronaut, became the first Chinese woman to enter China’s space station. China’s landmark six-month journey in space has increased a lot of curiosity (好奇) about the differences between male and female astronauts.
“Astronauts need to meet high physical and emotional (情感的) standards, so female astronauts will not be exception(特例) from this expectation,” said Pang Zhihao, a spaceflight researcher in Bejing.
“Different from many people’s opinion that it is inconvenient for women to take part in long-term spaceflights, female astronauts actually have many advantages over their male partners in space missions (任务)” Pang said.
Researches on missions with female members in the past have found many physiological indices (生理指数) in women are better than those in males. They are more likely to stay away from iron poisoning, irregular heartbeat and other illnesses.
“Women are usually more careful and normally better at communicating. These advantages are useful in space flights. The presence (存在) of a female astronaut brings more possibilities for the mission,” Pang said, saying he looks forward to Wang’s success.
“This is not only an honor, but also a chance for us to research the various advantages female astronauts have when walking into the space,” Pang said. “Their generally smaller size is an advantage, as they’ll be able to control their weight better and, as a result, perform a wider variety of tasks.”
In addition, astronauts often do indoor experiments, and Wang Yaping is not different there. “She plans to study aerospace medicine and space life to prepare future female astronauts for long-term stays in space,” Pang said, “As part of her mission, she is glad to give her second space-based speech during her stay, encouraging young people to go for their space dreams.”
In order to provide a comfortable living environment for her journey, Tianzhou 3, a spacecraft carrying supplies to the China space station, has sent some necessary supplies that keep her clean and healthy. A special spacesuit was also prepared for Wang’s outdoor activities, lighter than the male’s.

We all know that a lot of people and I mean a lot of people—learn another language and get really good at it. I’m not including bilingual (双语的) people whose parents speak different languages to them from when they’re born. They’re lucky—they don’t even have to try, right No, I mean people who learn at school or even later and then get so good at their second language that they become famous for it.
Here’s an example: a Polish man called Joseph Conrad. Well, his “real” name was Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski and he was born in 1857. When he was in his twenties, he became a sailor (水手) and started to learn English. Then he went to live in England. He stayed there for the rest of his life and he always spoke English with an accent (口音). So what Well, he changed his name to Joseph Conrad and he wrote novels in English. He wrote about twenty novels that a lot of people think are some of the greatest novels in English.
Another example OK. B rge Rosenbaum was born in Denmark in 1909. He was a very good pianist— he gave his first concert when he was just eight years old. Later, he started to tell jokes when he played the piano and he became a piano—playing comedian —in Danish, of course. Then when the Second World War started, he managed to run from Denmark and he went to the USA.He was 31, he had only $20 in his pocket (口袋) and he spoke no English at all. So, to learn English, he watched films and went to watch American comedians. Then he changed his name to Victor Borge, started doing his own comedy acts and became a famous TV comedian —telling jokes in his second language!

Introducing yourself is very important when you meet new people. Many students feel nervous when introducing themselves to the class because they don’t know what and how to share. Here are some ways that will help you introduce yourself with confidence.
Stand up before introducing yourself. This will make you more confident and will help you speak more clearly than sitting. It may feel embarrassed(尴尬的)to stand up, but your introduction will be over more quickly than you think.
Stay confident when you speak. When you do like this, you should be in a clear, loud voice so that everyone is able to hear you. It’s perfectly okay to be nervous—lots of people are when speaking in front of others! But if you can take a deep breath and show confidence, you’ll finish your introduction better.
Smile when you speak. Even if you are super nervous, smiling will make your voice sound calmer and will help you feel less nervous. It also shows your classmates and your teachers that you are friendly.

“Class, this is John Evans,” Mrs. Parmele introduced him to us, trying to give him a warm welcome. We saw a boy in old clothes. John looked around and smiled, hoping somebody would smile back. Nobody did. He kept on smiling anyway. I held my breath as Mrs. Parmele looked around the classroom, hoping she wouldn’t notice the empty desk next to mine. She did, and pointed him in that direction. He looked over at me as he sat down, but I looked away.
By the end of his first week, John was at the bottom of our class’ stair. I told my mother one evening at dinner, “He hardly even knows how to count.” However, as I ate lunch with him the next day and listened to him, I realized that it was pleasant to be with him. After lunch, I decided that I would be John’s friend.
One night, as Mother came into my bedroom, I said, “Mom, tomorrow is John’s birthday, and he’s not going to get anything. Nobody cares.” “Don’t worry,” Mom said as she kissed me goodnight. “I’m sure everything will be fine.”
I wished John a happy birthday in the morning, and his smile showed me that he was glad I had remembered. By mid-afternoon I had almost decided that birthdays weren’t that important. Then, as Mrs. Parmele was writing on the blackboard, I heard a familiar(熟悉的) voice singing the birthday song. I looked up and saw Mother coming through the door with a tray(托盘) of cupcakes and a present in her hand. Mrs. Parmele also joined in. They put the cupcakes and the gift on John’s desk and said, “Happy birthday, John.” John stood there with his mouth open, hardly believing what was happening. While John happily shared his cupcakes with the class, taking the tray from desk to desk, I caught Mother watching me and she smiled.

Marie was born in Poland on November 7, 1867.
Marie’s family had many troubles. Her mother was seriously ill. When Marie was 6, her father lost his job and their home. They moved to a small flat. It was noisy and crowded. But the noise did not stop her from studying.
In 1883, Marie finished high school. She dreamed of becoming a scientist. But in Poland, girls were not allowed to go to college. And her family did not have enough money to send her to a university in another country.
Reaching her dream seemed impossible.
Marie and her sister Bronya decided to study in France. Marie would work to pay for Bronya’s schooling. Then, once Bronya left school, she would work and pay for Marie’s schooling.
Finally, in 1891, Marie’s dream came true. She entered a university in Paris. In three years, she got advanced degrees in Physics and Maths. She also met a scientist named Pierre Curie and they married in 1895.
Marie studied a metal element called uranium. She wanted to study uranium because scientists knew it gave off unseeable rays of energy. She wondered where the rays came from.
Marie began testing rocks to find out if other elements gave off rays, too. Marie concluded two elements(元素)found in the rocks were radioactive. They were thorium and uranium.
She called the energy “radioactivity”. Marie’s experiments were so exciting that she and Pierre soon began working together. One day, Marie began testing a black rock. Marie discovered a new element in the rock. She named it “polonium”. After Marie took away the polonium, the rock was still radioactive. She knew another radioactive element was inside the rock. She called it “radium”.
In 1903, Marie and Pierre received the Nobel Prize in Physics. Marie was the first woman to receive a Nobel Prize. In 1911, Marie accepted the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. She was the first person to receive two Nobel Prizes.
Yet the work made her sick. On July 4, 1934, Marie Curie died of a blood disease that may be caused by radiation.

Wang Yaping, together with Zhai Zhigang and Ye Guangfu, went into space aboard the Shenzhou XIII on October 16th. The 41—year—old Wang became the first female astronaut (女航天员). to enter the Tiangong space station.
Wang’s space dream started in 2003 when China sent its first astronaut Yang Liwei into space. At that time, Wang was a pilot in the Chinese army. After having safe flights for 1,600 hours over nine years, Wang was a strong candidate to become an astronaut in 2010. She pushed herself hard, getting the same training as men. “The space environment won’t change because you are a woman,” she told Xinhua.
The hardest part is the high—G training. Sitting in a spinning(旋转的) machine, Wang would become blind for a while because her brain was short of blood. “There’s a red button (按钮)”, said Wang. “If you can’t bear it, you can press it to stop.” But Wang never used it. “There is no such red button in my heart.” That strong spirit finally made her dream come true in 2013. She joined the team for the Shenzhou X mission.
Wang said that as astronauts, women have their own advantages(优势). “Women may be more patient and can better deal with loneliness. Women’s hearts are also easier to adapt (适应)to the weightless environment, making them more suitable for long—term missions.”
