愚人节的玩笑:BBC——意大利面条树大丰收
还是在遥远的1957年,英国的BBC电视台在4月1日播出了这样一条消息 :多亏刚过去的温和冬天,以及有效的控制了面条树虫害,瑞士南部一户农家的意大利面条喜获大丰收。画面中,一名女子仔细地将意大利面条从树上摘下来,把它们放到太阳下晒干。
因为在当时,意大利菜在英国还不常见。许多英国人并不知道意大利面条是用小麦粉做成的。上百通电话打到BBC,有人指出消息错误,有人疑惑不解,甚至有人询问:怎么自己种意大利面条树呢?
这可以算是电视媒体最早加入4月1日愚人节整人活动行列的例子。多年后的CNN文章,还评价它是史上最大的一个玩笑。

e.g. Lucy and Leo got married last week. Lucy和Leo上周结婚了。
3) marry A to B意为“把A嫁给B或给A娶B”。
e.g. He married his son to a rich girl. 他给儿子娶了一个有钱的女子。
【拓展】marry为短暂性动词,在肯定句中不能与表示一段时间的状语连用。be married 是系表结构,表示状态,可以和表示一段时间的状语连用。
e.g. They got married three years ago. 他们结婚三年了。
=They have been married for three years.
=It has been three years since they got married.
4) married 作表语,介词要用to,不用with,即be/get married to sb.
e.g. Willis was married to actress Demi Moore from 1987 until 1998.

探究一、背景知识:愚人节的起源
愚人节也称也称万愚节。一种说法认为这一习俗源自印度的“诠俚节”。该节规定,每年三月三十一日的节日这天,不分男女老幼,可以互开玩笑、互相愚弄欺骗以换得娱乐。另一种较普遍的说法是起源于法国。1564年,法国首先采用新改革的纪年法——格里历(即目前的阳历),以一月一日为一年的开端,改变了过去以四月一日作为新年开端的历法。新历法推行过程中,一些因循守旧的人反对这种改革仍沿袭旧历,拒绝更新。他们依旧在四月一日这天互赠礼物,组织庆祝新年的活动。主张改革的人对这些守旧者的做法大加嘲弄。聪明滑稽的人在四月一日这天给顽固派赠送假礼物,邀请他们参加假庆祝会,并把这些受愚弄的人称为“四月傻瓜”或“上钩之鱼”。所以每年四月一日,是西方的民间传统节日——愚人节 。
It is celebrated every year on the first day of April. It has been popular since the 19th century. The day is not a national holiday in any country, but it is well known in Europe, Australia, Brazil and the United States.
On this day, people play jokes and hoaxes on each other. The jokes and their victims are known as “April fools”. Hoax stories may be reported by the press and other media on this day and explained later.

注:若 alive 本身有修饰语,则也可用作前置定语。

2) living可用作表语或定语,可用于人或物。
e.g. Are your grandparents still living? 你的祖父母还健在吗?
alive 和 living 表示“活着的”,两者含义很接近,只要句法适合,有时可互换。
若严格区分,两者仍有差别:living 通常是客观描述某人“尚在人间”或“健在”,而 alive 则主要指生与死的“界限”。
e.g. He was still alive when I reached the hospital. 当我赶到医院时他还活着。

1.过去完成时的概念
过去完成时表示在过去的某一时间或动作之前已经发生或完成的动作,即表示动作发生的时间是“过去的过去”。
2.过去完成时的各种句式结构
过去完成时是由“助动词had+动词的过去分词”构成的,had用于各种人称和数。
(1)肯定句:主语+had+动词的过去分词+其他.
(2)否定句:主语+had+not+动词的过去分词+其他.
(3)一般疑问句:Had+主语+动词的过去分词+其他?
(4)特殊疑问句:特殊疑问词(组)+一般疑问句?
3.过去完成时的判断依据
(1)当句子中出现by,by then,by that time,by the time,by the end of last month等时间状语(从句)时,通常用过去完成时。如:
She had already worked for seven hours by that time.到那时,她已经工作七个小时了。
By the time I got there,the train had left.当我到那里的时候,火车已经离开了。
(2)主句谓语动词为一般过去时(如told,said,heard,thought,knew等),其后的宾语从句通常用过去完成时。如:

(1)过去完成时表示一个动作或状态在过去某一时间或动作之前已经完成或结束,即发生在“过去的过去”。如:

(2)过去完成时是一个相对的时态,只有和过去某一时间或某一动作相比较时才使用它。如:

5.过去完成时与一般过去时的区别
(1)时间状语不同:过去完成时在时间上强调“过去的过去”,而一般过去时只强调过去某一特定的时间。试比较:
They had already left when she arrived.她到达时他们已经走了。(在她“到达”这一过去的动作之前,他们就已经“离开”了)
I saw him in the street yesterday.昨天我在街上看见他了。(“看见他”这一动作是在“昨天”这一过去的时间发生的)
(2)在没有明确的过去时间状语作标志时,谓语动词动作发生的时间先后须依据上下文来判断:先发生的用过去完成时,后发生的则用一般过去时。如:

I will never forget what happened today. It was an unlucky day for me.
I stayed up late last night because of an exciting soccer match. So I didn't hear the alarm go off this morning. When I woke up, my parents had left for work. I overslept. I didn't have breakfast and rushed to the bus stop. But as I got to the bus stop, the bus had already left. As a result, I was late for school.
