unexpected adj. 出乎意料的;始料不及的
e.g. It will not be unexpected if Tom comes late again, because he is always like this.

the unexpected:“the + 形容词”表示一类人或物
e.g. The young should expect the old.
She is looking after the wounded.
2. By the time I got up, my brother had already gotten in the shower.
by the time 在……以前,常引导表示过去的时间状语从句,主句常用过去完成时,即had+动词过去分词
e.g. By the time I got there, he had already left.

3. What happened
1) sth. + happen +时间/地点意为“某时/某地发生了某事”。
2) sth. + happen to +sb.意为 “某人发生了某事”。
3) sb. + happen to do sth.意为“某人碰巧做某事”。
e.g. An accident happened in our neighborhood just now.
刚才我们社区发生了一起事故。
A car accident happened to Jim yesterday. 昨天吉姆发生了交通事故。

above prep.
1)(表示位置)在……上面;高于”(与 below相对)。
e.g. That big high-rise above us is where Brian lives.

He lifted his hands above his head. 他将双手举过头顶。
2) 表示在地位、级别、能力、资历、重要性等方面“超过”、“在……之上”、“比……强”。
e.g. He is above the others in ability. 他的能力优于其他人。

3) adv. 在上面
e.g. There are snowy peaks above. 上面是白雪皑皑的群峰。

on, over与above用作方位介词时,都可以表示“在……上”。
on常表示一个物体在另一个物体的表面上,两个物体相互接触;
over常表示一个物体在另一个物体的垂直上方,两个物体相互不接触,反义词为under;
above常笼统地表示一个物体高于另一个物体,反义词为below。

4. Notes
1) 由when, by the time, before等引导时间状语从句时,若描述发生在过去的事,主句常用过去完成时(had + 过去分词)表示动作发生在过去的过去。
2) be about to do, be doing等表示即将或正在做某事时,常用when引导从句表示突然发生的动作,when可省略。
5. 过去完成时讲解。
过去完成时表示一个动作或状态在过去某一时间或动作之前已经完成,发生在“过去的过去”。
【温馨提示1】
判断句子是否用过去完成时态,首先要确定时间状语,接着判断动作是否已经发生或完成,然后再来判断动作发生的先后顺序。
这个过去的时间可以用by,before等介词短语或者一个时间状语从句来表示,也可用when, before等引导的从句,或者通过上下文表示。
e.g. The movie had started before I arrived at the cinema.
【温馨提示2】
当过去完成时态中含有表示一段时间的状语时,谓语动词常用延续性动词。
e.g. When I arrived at the school gate, all the other girls had been away for 30 minutes.
been away表示“离开”,这里不能用“left”。
6. 过去完成时的构成
1) 肯定句式:主语 + had + 动词的过去分词 + 其他.
e.g. When I woke up, it had stopped raining.
By the time I got to the airport, the plane had taken off.
2) 否定句式:主语 + had not / hadn’t + 动词的过去分词+ 其他.
e.g. Julian hadn’t cleaned up the house before his mother got home yesterday afternoon.
3) 一般疑问句式:Had + 主语 + 动词的过去分词 + 其他
肯定回答:Yes, 主语 + had.
否定回答:No, 主语 + hadn’t.
e.g. —Had you learned about the culture in the country before you came here
—Yes, I had. / No, I hadn’t.
4) 特殊疑问句式:疑问词(who除外) + had + 主语 + 动词的过去分词+其他
e.g. How many times had you been to Beijing before you went to college
7. 过去完成时与现在完成时的区别:
过去完成时与一般过去时的区别:
过去完成时的动作发生在“过去的过去”,表示过去某一时间发生的动作或存在的状态。
一般过去时表示过去某时间发生的动作或存在的状态。
e.g. After he had done his homework, he went out to play football.
By the time / When I got home, she had locked the door.
