Why Was School Created
你有没有想过:世界上为什么会有学校呢?
Why was school created We're sure that's a question that every student asks from time to time. Especially on test days, many students can’t help but wonder why they are made to take such cruel and unusual punishment!
If you're honest with yourself, though, you know in your heart what a great place school is. You have fun, learn all kinds of interesting things, and get to spend time with your friends. Sure, tests can be stressful, but think of how boring life would be if you didn't get to learn new things and see other people so often!
Schools are not a new invention. You may have seen some old schoolhouses that have been around for a couple hundred years or more. The earliest schools, though, date back thousands of years! In fact, education dates back to the very first humans ever to take over the planet. But back to the question at the beginning — why school
Well, every generation (一代人) has found it necessary to pass on their knowledge, skills, values, and traditions to the next generation. But how can they do this That's education! And through education, each new generation can learn these things.
The earliest human beings educated youngsters by themselves at home and passed along their knowledge, skills, values, and traditions. Over time, however, the population grew and societies formed. Then people began to realize what a waste of time and effort it was to educate just a couple of their little ones at home on their own. They believed it would be easier and more efficient (效率高的) to have a small group of adults teach a larger group of children. In this way, school was born.Creative souvenirs to graduates
又到一年毕业季,江苏高校在毕业典礼上为毕业生们准备了别出心裁的礼物。
This year, universities in Jiangsu Province have offered creative souvenirs to graduates.
Each and every graduate from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, for example, received a seal, with the university’s emblem on the front, motto on the side, and student’s name at the bottom. Zhang Xiaoyan, a teacher from the university, hoped that every graduate can make achievement in their career and bring glory back to the alma mater.
Not long ago, Nanjing University of Finance and Economics Alumni Association presented a copper badge with a red and blue ribbon to each graduate. Shen Lin, a graduate of the university’s School of International Business and Economics, said the badge will carry her memories about the university forever.

“送上门”的毕业典礼。
A high school graduation ceremony is an important event in a person's life. However, for Mark Shrader, who was receiving medical care at home, it was impossible for him to attend his school's graduation ceremony. To his surprise, Bentworth High School brought the graduation ceremony to his home.
On June 8, two days before the school's graduation ceremony, Shrader's classmates, along with teachers, came to his home. They attended the special graduation ceremony for Shrader.
Dressed in a cap and gown (方帽和礼服), and with his family, friends, classmates and teachers around, Shrader fought back tears as he got his diploma (毕业证书). His classmates and teachers congratulated him, took pictures with him and ate cupcakes. Shrader officially became the first graduate of Bentworth High School in 2021.
Shrader developed a serious disease at the age of 8. Boys with the disease often only live to their teens or early 20s. However, Shrader faces his medical condition with courage. Besides playing video games with his friends, Shrader also enjoys reading, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with his 6-year-old and 2-week-old nephews (侄子). Shrader has even talked about becoming a lawyer (律师). He is always happy and he always has the guts to take on life's difficulties.
William Law, a doctor who has been with Shrader for 13 years, also showed up at the ceremony. He said at the event that he wanted those in the graduating class to learn three things from Shrader: his determination ( 决心), courage and attitude.
For Shrader, the ceremony was a special moment, although he had to stay in bed much of the time and grew increasingly uncomfortable during the event. Later, in a phone conversation, he thanked everyone for coming.
Best wishes to Shrader!
