Lead-in
It’s a country with the world’s longest mountain range, largest rainforest, oldest settlements, and great ancient civilisation. It’s a country with coasts, highlands, and jungles. You can trek through hot, humid jungles one day, and cold arid glaciers the next. There are many famous attractions as follows:

Peru
Peru is the fourth largest country in South America, and borders with Ecuador, Columbia, Brazil, Bolivia and Chile. Its capital is Lima. Lima is a nice place, mixed with colonial (殖民的) architecture and modern architecture.
Inca Culture
A member of the group of Quechuan peoples (克丘亚部落) of highland Peru who established an empire from northern Ecuador to central Chile before the Spanish conquest (征服). The Inca ruins of Peru are perhaps most responsible for attracting curious visitors, most of whom come to see Machu Picchu. The sun was the basis for the Inca religion.
Although the Andean civilization (安第斯文明) had no writing or wheels, many things, such as the magnificent Machu Picchu palace buildings, the ancient city of Cuzco, the Nazca Lines (纳斯卡地画), as well as the beautiful gold and silver products, all shine with the light of wisdom.

Encyclopedia
An encyclopedia entry is usually informative in nature. While it may present all the basic facts about a subject, good and bad, its tone will be neutral, impersonal and objective. Through an encyclopedia entry, you may learn all the basic facts you need to know about a country, but nothing about what it is like to experience going to a country.

Brochure
A travel brochure is by nature highly subjective. It will present only a selection of good points about a place, making an effort to help the reader imagine what it is like to visit the country, and in an effort to persuade the reader to book a holiday.

PERU is a country on the Pacific coast of South America with three main areas: narrow, dry, flat land running along the coast, the Andes Mountains, and the Amazon rainforest.
In the 1400s and 1500s, Peru was the centre of the powerful ancient Inca Empire. The Inca emperor lived in the now-famous site Machu Picchu. Spain took control of Peru in the 16th century and ruled until 1821. It is for this reason that Spanish is the main official language of Peru.

句式剖析
本句是强调句型,强调的是原因状语for this reason。
考点提炼
强调句型的基本结构是“It+is/was+被强调部分+that/who+其他”。该句型可对句子的主语、宾语、状语等进行强调,但不能强调谓语。学习强调句型时需要注意以下几点:
(1) 强调句型中的It本身没有词义,但不能用其他词代替。
(2) 被强调部分指人时用that/who均可,其他情况一律用that。

Sentence Patterns
(3) 被强调部分无论是单数还是复数,It后的be动词均用单数形式,即is或was。用is还是was要根据原句的时态而定。属于现在或将来时间范畴的时态,用is;属于过去时间范畴的时态,用was。

It was Alice and her friend who sent the old man to the hospital.
是艾丽斯和她的朋友把那位老人送到了医院。
(4) 被强调部分如果是原句的主语,who/that之后的谓语动词在人称和数上应与原句的主语保持一致。
It is you that/who are too careless. 是你太粗心了。
(5) 强调主语或宾语且主语或宾语为人称代词时,应注意主语或宾语的形式仍用主格或宾格形式。
It was he that/who helped me yesterday. 昨天是他帮助了我。
It was me that/who he helped yesterday. 昨天他帮助的人是我。
归纳拓展
(1) 判断句子是否是强调句的方法:去掉It is/was与that/who后,剩余部分若结构完整、句意明确,则为强调句,否则不是。
It was because of the bad weather that the football match had to be put off.
正是因为坏天气,足球比赛不得不推迟。
(这里把It was和that去掉后,句子为“because of the bad weather the football match
had to be put off”,句意完整,符合语法结构,故是强调句型。)
(2) 强调句型的特殊形式:
