The Old Italian Violin
Most musicians agree that the best violins were first made in Cremona, Italy, about 200 years ago. These violins sound better than any others. They even sound better than violins made today. Violin makers and scientists try to make instruments like the Italian
violins. But they aren't the same. Musicians still prefer the old ones.
Some people think it is the age of the violins. But not all old violins sound wonderful. Only the old violins from Cremona are special. So age cannot be answered very correctly. 21*cnjy*com
Other people think the secret to those violins is the wood. The wood must be from certain kinds of trees. But the kind of wood may not be so important. It may be more important to cut the wood in a special way. Wood for a violin must be cut very carefully. It has to be the right size and shape. The smallest difference will change the sound of the violin. Musicians sometimes think that it was the secret of the Italians. Possibly they understood more than us about how to cut the wood.
Size and shape may not be the answer, either. Scientists can make new ones which are exactly the same size and shape. But the new violins still do not sound as good as the old ones. Some scientists think the secret may be the varnish (清漆). Varnish is what covers the wood of the violin. It makes the wood look shiny. It also helps the sound of the instrument. But no one knows what the Italian violin makers used in their varnish.
1. The passage is about ______________.
A. the old Italian violins B. musical instruments
C. scientific ideas D. making violins
2. Other people think the Italian violin makers ______________.
A. were lucky B. did not know much about violins
C. used many kinds of wood D. knew something special
3. Violins made today ______________.
A. have the same as the old ones
B. are better than the old ones
C. sound the same as the old ones
D. have the same varnish as the old ones
4. Some scientists believe that the secret of the old violins was ______________.
A. their colour B. their sound C. their varnish D. the music
5. Why the violin was painted with the varnish?
A. To make the sound nice. B. To make the appearance shiny.
C. To value the violin. D. Both A and B.
1.A。短文通篇都在谈论the old Italian violins,故选A。
3.A。 故选A。

Over the summer the jeans come to represent friendship and growing up. Lena find ways to communicate with her grandpa, who she used to think was boring. Bridget falls in love with an older camp coach. Carmen finds out her father is engaged to a woman with two children. And Tibby makes friends with a 12-year-old who is dying of cancer.

The Successful Test Flight of the J-20 Stealth Fighter
According to China Daily, the J-20 stealth fighter has succeeded in test fight on January 11. The news has also excited many young Chinese, as it is China's first stealth fighter.
Simply speaking, stealth technology allows an aircraft to be partly invisible on radar (雷达). And the principle of reflection and absorption (吸收) makes aircraft "stealthy".
Most traditional aircraft have a round shape, which creates a very active radar reflector. No matter where the radar signal hits the plane, some of the signal gets reflected back.
A stealth aircraft, however, is made up of completely flat surfaces and very sharp edges. When a radar signal hits a stealth plane, the signal reflects away at an angle.
Also, the surfaces on a stealth aircraft can take in radar signals. But stealth technology can't make an aircraft fully invisible. It's like the camouflage strategy used by soldiers in jungle. Unless the soldier comes near you, you can't see him.
The aim of stealth technology is not just to allow planes to avoid missiles (导弹) but also to provide a cover for secret operations. In other words, we can say that the job of stealth
aircraft pilot is not to let others know that he was ever there.
1. According to the passage, we can get the news from ______________.
A. magazines B. newspapers C. TV D. notebooks
2. The missing sentence in the first paragraph should be "______________".
A. How exactly does stealth technology work?
B. When was stealth technology made?
C. Where does stealth technology work?
D. What has made stealth technology work?
3. The underlined word "camouflage" here means "______________" in Chinese.21
4. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?2·1·c·n·j·y
A. A stealth aircraft has a kind of round shape.
B. There is not any pilot in a stealth aircraft.
C. The stealth aircraft's surfaces can get radar signals.
D. Stealth technology can make an aircraft invisible.
3.D。根据第五段的最后一句“Unless the soldier comes near you,you can't see him”可判断,隐形战机利用了战士在丛林里的伪装技术所以才让人看不到。
4.C.由短文第五段的首句“Also,the surfaces on a stealth aircraft can take in radar signals”可判断,隐形战机的表面能接收到雷达信号。
