教材内容分析
本节课是九年义务教育课程教科书新目标英语第四单元I used to be afraid of the dark.第一课时。通过对used to 句型的学习,让学生懂得它的内涵,同时也要掌握它的句式变换。教学重点:掌握本课时中出现的生词 humorous, silent, helpful, from time to time, score;学会描述自己或他人过去常常做的事情基本句型: I used to … 以及发现自己或他人在外表、性格、兴趣等方面所发生的变化。教学难点:能初步运用所学的单词、词组及 used to be 句型,组内进行表达过去与现在外表特征相比较的话题交流。
教学对象及特点
针对九年级学生的认知结构、兴趣爱好以及英语学科的特点,本节课通过生动有趣,形象直观的图片对比,让学生理解used to的含义,再进一步引出目标句型,最后再通过听力和对话学习来巩固所学知识,有效突破教学重难点。
四、教学目标
1.语言知识目标:
能掌握以下单词及短语:humorous, silent, helpful, score, from time to time
能掌握以下句型:
① Paula used to be really quiet.
② —Did Mario use to be short —Yes, he did.
③ —What’s he like now —He’s tall now.
能够用英语描述自己或他人过去常常做的事情;发现自己或他人在外表、性格、兴趣等方面所发生的变化。
2.情感态度价值观目标:让学生明白事物是在不断发展、变化的道理,培养学生积极向上的心态。
五、教学过程
(一) Lead in 大屏幕展示 网上下载 的几张照片,引导学生们来描述他/她的长相特点。

(二)New words
Learn the words in Section A 1 (1a-2d): humorous, silent, helpful, score, from time to time.
(三)Presentation 1a
Look at the chart in 1a, and discuss with your partner. Fill in the chart with words to describe people.
Let some students say their answers. Let other students add more.
(四) Listening 1b
T: Bob is seeing some friends for the first time in four years. What did his friends use to be like
Students listen and try to fill in the blanks with the right words.
Listen again. Let students check their answers.
Read the tapescripts.
(五)Pair work 1c
Look at the picture in 1a and make conversations in pairs.
Students work in pairs to ask and answer the appearance about Mario, Amy and Tina.
Let some pairs ask and answer.Help students use the target language in natural speech..
e.g. A: Did Mario use to be short
B: Yes, he did. He used to be really short.
A: What’s he like now
B: He’s tall now .
(六) Listening 2a: Listen and check the words you hear: friendly, outgoing, serious, humorous, silent, active, brave, quiet, helpful.
Look at the words in 2a. Let some students read the words aloud. Make sure all the students know the meaning of the words.

(七)Listening 2b: Listen again and complete the chart about how Paula has changed.
T: Paula has changed a lot in the past few years. Do you want to know what she used to be
