Dear Tom,
I am terribly sorry to tell you that I won’t be able to go to Beijing with you next weekend as planned, and I’m writing to make an apology.
I had meant to go, but unfortunately my brother, who left home to Australia for his further study last year called me. He informed me that he would return home next Saturday morning. He asked me to pick him up at the airport. You know, we haven’t seen each other for nearly a year.
I sincerely hope that you can accept my apology and understand me. If possible, I would like to make another date to show you around Beijing. Do forgive me.
Tom,

Dear Mike,
I am glad to receive your email asking for advice on how to improve your Chinese and I understand your problem.
Here is my advice for improving your Chinese. Firstly, speak Chinese more, both in and out of class. Try your best to communicate with your classmates in Chinese. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes because making mistakes is quite natural. I think the more you speak, the better you Chinese will be. Secondly, you pay more attention to TV presenters in order to improve your listening when you are watching TV at home. I’m sure you will make great progress as time goes on.
In conclusion, I wish you every success with your studies.
Mike,

As Chinese people become richer and richer, more and more families can afford a car. Unfortunately, it is not really convenient if there are too many cars in the streets. For example,if there are traffic jams everywhere, going by car can take longer than walking. There will also be more traffic accidents, which will cause a lot of damage and many deaths. What’s worse, if there are too many cars in the streets, air will be hadly polluted and it will be very noisy everywhere, which is bad for our health. I don’t think it is good to encourage more private cars. We should encourage people to take buses, ride bicycles or just walk.
