Who’s he?
He’s a mouse.
Who’s strong?
The lion.
Who’s weak?
The mouse.
But after we learned the story, do you still think that the mouse is always weak? Why?
It’s an interesting story. So first let’s try to tell this story.
Here are two tips for you. First, we often use the past tense to tell a story. So we should say, ‘There was a lion in the forest’. And second, these pictures can help us remember the story. So you can look at the pictures and tell the story. Now, please do it in pairs.
学生同桌复述
This time let’s tell the story in class. Everybody says one or two sentences and let another person go on. Start from me: There was a lion in the forest. He was large and strong. One day … 请学生逐个复述
In this story, the mouse and the lion said something. What did they say? How did they feel at that time? Can you try to read and feel? 学生自己读右边四句台词。

The mouse was very little, and he was scared, so how did he say it? Can you guess?
He said quietly. 带读这句话。板书
So who can be the mouse and say it quietly? 学生夸张读。
The mouse said quietly, but how about the large lion? How did he laugh?
He laughed loudly. 带读 Who can try?
But when he was in the net, was he happy? How did he say?
He said sadly. 带读 Who can try?
After the mouse helped the lion, how did the lion feel? So how did he say?
He said happily. 带读 Who can read happily?
I think now you can read better. Let’s try!
Boys and girls, let’s look at the four words again. What are they?
They are quietly, loudly, sadly and happily.
What are they? They are adverbs.
‘The mouse said.’ It’s OK. But why do we say ‘The mouse said quietly.’ What are the adverbs for?
They can show the actions more vividly.
And look(板书), do we often put them before or after the verbs?
Yes, we often put adverbs after the verbs.
And we can get some adverbs from the adjectives. 学生快速说,读词,贴板书。
You know excitedly. What does it mean? Can you tell us in English?
Can you show us? Please do sth excitedly.
读完之后 What can you find? (Can you find any rules?)
Often we add ‘ly’ after the adjectives and they become adverbs.
And sometimes if the adjective ends up with ‘y’, we should cross y and add ily.
Look, we learned so many adverbs today. Can we try to read well?
Good! You can read well, and can you use them well, too?
Look at this boy. Is he happy?
He’s a happy boy, so he does everything happily.
For example, he often laughs happily. He reads happily. What else does he do happily, can you guess?
Is this a happy dog?
So maybe he does everything sadly. Can you guess and talk in groups?
请小组反馈
What about Linda? What does she often do?
请小组反馈
You showed excitedly, and this time, let’s act the story of the lion and the mouse excitedly!
Let’s take picture one as an example.
Look at this lion. What might he say?
I’m strong and large.
Maybe. And how did he say this? Did he say it sadly?
Yes, I think you are all right. And for me, I guess he said excitedly. So who can be an excited lion? 学生示范读
And how about the animals? Did they say excitedly, too?
No. Maybe they cried loudly to tell the others to run away. Can you be the animals?
Great! This time please discuss in groups of three and decide the proper adverbs for each line. (指黑板)
三人小组活动,提前告知学生可以在语气卡片上表上序号123来对应8句台词
Now it’s time for acting. You have some ideas for the lines. If you choose ‘quietly’, then you should speak quietly, not loudly.
We will act in groups of three: a narrator, a lion and a mouse.
Take picture one as an example, I’m the narrator. Who can be the lion and the mouse?
The narrator should show us the adverbs. The lion and the mouse should act right.

Please act in groups.

So you see, although the mouse was small and weak, he could help the lion. And could the lion help the mouse one day? How?
Look, one day, a big cat came to the forest. Was the mouse happy? What would his friend Mr Lion do?
Can you imagine and make a story in groups of four?
The lion, the cat, the mouse, and most importantly, a narrator! He can use adverbs to tell us more!
And don’t forget to use the past tense to tell the story.
