I walk through the doors into the waiting area, anxious parents do what theycan to comfort nervous and crying children. I spot a small girl called Lara spending her time (cry)in pain, whose ankle is twice its normal size as she fell off her bicycle. Although the doctors and nurses will treat her injury, it's my job (make)her feel better.
Scientific studies show that laughter produces chemicals to make people feel better, which (mean )clown doctors can be helpful. We entertain the children by doing magic (trick), singing songs, and telling stories and silly jokes. We have to be very sensitive and work ( close ) with the doctors and nurses.
While the doctor concentrates examining Lara’s ankle, I get her attention by doing a magic trick. Although she is clearly still in some pain, her scared and (anxiety) look has been replaced first by a small smile, and then by loud laughter.
I hope that clown doctors help make the hospital friendlier place to visit. After all, it really is true that “laughter is the (good )medicine”.
