Most of your textbooks are single-use. After graduating, old textbooks are thrown away, which is a big waste of money and paper.
According to the National Press and Publication Administration, students across the country buy 2.8 billion new textbooks every year. If the following year’s students could reuse these textbooks, it would save over 20 billion yuan per year. That’s enough money to build 40,000 primary schools.
Primary and junior high school students in several Chinese cities are reusing music, arts, science and IT textbooks. That’s because students don’t have to take notes in their textbooks for these subjects, which makes them suitable for recycling.
However, these books only account for a small amount of the total number of textbooks. As there is no good way for redistributing (再分配) second-hand textbooks, most textbooks still end up as waste.
Changes in curricula (课程) also make it hard to reuse textbooks. "I’m among the first group of students to take classes after the recent curricular reform (改革), so I have to buy new textbooks,’ Sun Run, a high school student from Hangzhou said.
Many countries already reuse their textbooks. In the US, book companies will come to schools and buy used books. They then resell them to new students the following year at a lower price. A high school textbook in the US can have up to eight owners before it is no longer in a good enough condition to be used, according to Xinhua. The books can then be recycled.
6.What does the word "single-use" mean in Paragraph 17
A.Very expensive. B.Only to be used once.
C.Lasting for a long lime. D.Made of high-quality paper.
7.What can we know from Paragraph 2
A.Reusing textbooks can be expensive.
B.China doesn’t have enough money for textbook.
C.China still needs 40,000 primary schools.
D.China spends billions on textbooks every year.
8.Why can certain textbooks be reused
A.Because students don’t take notes in them.
B.Because they are not needed for most classes.
C.Because the government has asked schools to do so.
D.Because the subjects they cover are not important.
9.What has made textbook recycling so hard
a. A general dislike for second-hand books.
b. A lack of an efficient redistribution system.
c. Changes in school curricula.
d. A lack of protection for second-hand books.
A.ab B.ac C.bc D.bd

People from some countries set up a certain festival to give thanks. But do you know there is a special day to say sorry
Every year on May 26, Australian people come together, sharing the healing and sorry for the Stolen Generations and their families. That day is called National Sorry Day.
The first National Sorry Day was held on May 26, 1998. After Europeans landed in Australia, the government intended to erase Aboriginal culture. Thus, great numbers of Aboriginal children were taken away from their families and placed in institutions. There, they were treated badly and raised according to Western culture instead of their own culture. Those poor kids, later known as the “Stolen Generations”, never knew who their parents were or where they were. Their dark days finally ended on May 26, 1997 when a report, Bringing Them Home, came out. Thousands of Australians offered their apologies by writing messages and singing “sorry books” to the Stolen Generations. Since then, the National Apology has been a tradition in the country.
As a symbol of pride and power for Aboriginals, the Aboriginal flag can be seen everywhere that day. It is black (top) and red (bottom) with a yellow circle in the centre, which stands for the Aboriginals walking under the sun.
Besides raising Sorry Day flags, more activities take place around Australia nowadays. Many school children attend writing competitions and light candles for the Stolen Generations. Schools invite local Aboriginal elders to speak with students. Films about the Stolen Generations may also be shown for discussion. It’s not a public holiday, but everyone is welcome to take part in it.
Through National Sorry Day, Australians believe they will heal old wounds and right past wrongs.

Need to buy something Why go to a store Buy it on the internet! Need it now Why wait Ask for next-day delivery! Each day, more and more people try online shopping. In fact, online sales have doubled in the last ten years. But not everyone is excited. Some scientists now say that online shopping is bad for the environment.
People are surprised to hear this. “They think, I don’t need to drive, and the business doesn’t need to build a store, so there will be less pollution,” says Nuria Prost, an environmental scientist. “But it is not so simple. In fact, online shopping is wasteful. It also adds to air pollution.”
In truth, the Internet is not always as good a friend to the environment as it seems. For example, most people thought that the internet would help offices use less paper and other materials. But paper use increased by 33% between 1986 and 1997. “Online shopping could have similarly negative effects,” says Nevil Cohen, a professor of environmental science. Part of the problem is what people are buying these days. In the past, people bought things on the internet that did not require much packing material, such as books and clothing. But now people also shop online for large, heavy products such as televisions, computers, and furniture. These products need to be packed in large amount of plastic and paper. This creates a lot of waste.
Another problem caused by online shopping is air pollution. When customers buy products and ask for next-day delivery, companies often have to send them by air. Airplanes use much more fuel than cars and produce more car dioxide(CO2). When people buy a lot of different things from different online businesses, this creates even more travel by airplane.
Online product returns are also a problem. For example, an online shoe store may allow customers to return shoes without extra pay if they are the wrong size. This doubles the packing material and number airplane trips required to sell one pair of shoes.
“If people want to protect the environment, they need to think before they shop,” says Prost. “People need to ask themselves: Is this exactly what I want Do I really need it tomorrow, or can I wait ” Online stores can also ask customers to pay money for returns. This may make people shop more carefully. “Online shopping is fast and easy,” says Prost, “but we can’t forget the negative effects it has on the environment.”
19.The passage begins with several questions to ________.
A.introduce the main topic B.describe online shopping
C.show the writer’s opinion D.list advantages of shopping
20.What is the passage mainly about
A.The internet is not good to the environment.
B.Online shopping causes more air pollution.
C.Online shopping is bad for the environment.
D.Stop online shopping to protect the environment.
21.Which of the following is to show that online shopping is wasteful
A.Large products need more packing materials.
B.Paper use increased by 33 percent about ten years.
C.Businesses need to build a store to sell the products.
D.Online shopping costs less than shopping in a store.
22.Which of the following shows the structure(结构) of the passage (P=Paragraph)
A. B.

The COVID-19 has affected the world. Recently scientists have been meeting online. But not all of them are discussing the virus. Some are discussing climate (气候) change. The use of fuel (燃料), like oil and gas, is causing the earth to warm up. The rising temperatures change weather patterns (模式) across the earth. This causes climate change.
Pollution Levels Drop During Lockdown (封锁期)
Right now, people are not using as much fuel. They are driving and flying less. Pollution has decreased (减少) in many countries, such as the United States, India and China. This is because of the COVD-19 pandemic. A pandemic is a worldwide outbreak of a disease.
The changes in pollution levels won’t last long. Scientists say China’s pollution decreased between February and March last year. This is because factories stopped running during the lockdown. As the country reopens, though, the pollution is expected to increase again.
Scientists are hoping to find ways to deal with climate change in the long term. They are looking at how people’s behavior has changed. They are also looking at the way the governments respond.

Some people say that the outbreak is a reason to make changes in how we deal with climate change. They say progress that was made with the environment could be lost.
Kenneth Gillingham is a professor at Yale University. He says the pandemic has affected renewable energy. This is energy that can be collected from renewable resources (资源). These include sunlight and wind. “There’s a slowing down of building new solar (太阳能) farms,” he says. “Some projects are hitting the pause (暂停) button. Other projects may not happen for a long time.”
Scientists hope people can realize that the energy problem is also serious and pay more attention to renewable energy.
Changing Human Behavior Is the Key
People know that the pandemic is a threat (威胁). But scientists want people to understand that climate change is a big threat, too. Scientists see a connection between humans and natural disasters. These include hurricanes (飓风) and fires. But most people feel disconnected from climate change.
Scientists hope people will learn how the pandemic and climate are connected. Dr. Aaron Bernstein is a professor at Harvard Medical School. He says there is hope in the way the world has responded to the pandemic. For example, people have changed their behavior. They are wearing masks and keeping a safe distance with others. He thinks people can change their behavior to help with climate change, too.
23.According to the passage, the climate change is caused by ________.

The UN Environment Programme says that raising temperatures could mean the end of some migrating (迁徙) animals.
Migrating animals move through several environments as they travel away from the cold area into winter to warmer ones. Birds may fly from one part of the world to another, perhaps stopping at feeding grounds on the way. Whales and turtles travel through huge areas of ocean. A report says that changes in any one of the places where these animals stay can cause serious problems. "Obviously these animals have developed their traveling ways over thousands of years. But weather changes much greater over the next 25 to 50 years. And it is impossible for these animals to change their habits fast enough," said the report writer Dr. Robert Hepworth.
Turtles are hit hardest by rising temperatures. Scientists have found that at higher temperatures. Turtles have far more female eggs than male ones. In parts of Malaysia, Turtles are only giving birth to female babies. And some turtles are more probable to develop cancer as the waters get warmer.
With birds, the main problem is the harm to important areas at the end of their travels or at resting places along the way. About one-fifth of immigration birds are now in danger because of these changes, including rising sea levels, land loss and more strong storms.
Some other animals are now in great danger. For example, the North Atlantic Right Whale is losing their food because of the changing ocean flows. The White-Nose Dolphin is out-competed (淘汰) by other kinds in warmer waters.
The report is not all bad news. Even with the temperature changing, protecting the environment can still help migrating animals return." We need governments to start taking action all over the world. The clock is ticking. We should make full use of every minute." said Dr. Hepworth. And now some projects are already working! What does it mean to be green Green is more than just a color. It also means taking special steps to protect the environment. Buying a green product is a small step everyone can take. Deciding whether a product is green, however, isn’t always easy. We need to consider the whole life cycle of the product even after it’s of no use. Here is what we may keep in mind.
The materials of a product usually draw our first attention. What is it made of Are there any harmful chemicals in it Green products are made of more natural materials which are free from harmful chemicals, so they can be good for our physical health.
Packaging is important. How is a product packaged Is it over packaged We’d better choose glass, metal and paper packaging, as these can be reused or more easily recycled. We can also look for less packaging or even choose unbagged products whenever possible.
Location(地点) matters. Where was a product produced Where are we buying it Think about how much energy was used to get it to us. Try to choose local products. When it comes to food, it is a good idea to order directly from local farmers, shop at markets and buy fruits in season. Buying from stores near our houses is also a good choice, because we can go there without driving a car.
Look into what the company tells us about their product. It’s easy to say that a product is “green” or “all natural” but the words may be too good to be true. So, much of the information about a product should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, companies try to make us believe that their products are environmentally responsible.
The greenest thing is certainly the one we don’t buy. Things like food and clothing are necessary for life. But many others are not. Better than buying is choosing to leave an unnecessary product in the store. It sends a message to the producer, keeps money in our pockets, reduces waste and keeps the planet healthy.
41.Buying a green product is ________.
A.a small step of no use
B.exactly the same as being green
C.always to reduce the waste pollution
D.a rule everyone can follow
42.What may people consider first according to the passage ________.
A.How much the product costs B.What the product is made of
C.Where the product is from D.How the product looks
43.What does the expression “be taken with a grain of salt” probably mean ________.
A.Be easily understood B.Be widely spread
C.Not be completely believed D.Not be quickly forgotten
44.If we follow the “green” rule, we’d better ________.
A.only go shopping when necessary
B.buy some local vegetables with a plastic bag
C.buy the kid a bottle of milk delivered from abroad
D.get grandfather a can of tea with a big and fine package
45.The writer mainly wants to tell us ________.
A.the advantages of being green
B.the ways to choose and buy green products
C.the solutions to save our green planet
D.the reasons why we should be green

Going green makes a big difference in our life. I’m Jessica Wong. Today I’ll tell you what my family does every day to save the earth. It’s reported that a common family produces more than one ton of rubbish a year. Some of this waste takes hundreds of years to decay. Also, it costs much money to buy new things to take the place of the things we throw away.
In order to protect the environment and save money, my family has recycled everything. On the one hand, we collect used things every day, such as paper, bottles and boxes, and put them into different bins. Then they are sent to a recycling center. Finally, they are treated and can be used again. Recycling will help reduce a lot of waste. On the other hand, we use old clothes to make different kinds of bags. I especially like to use old jeans to make bags. These cute and useful bags are popular with young people. As a result, I open a small shop and set up a website to sell them online.
What’s more, my parents and my brother often go to work by bike. If it rains, they’ll take the bus. We’re also going to grow our own vegetables, raise cows, keep hens and ducks. Soon, we’ll be able to have eggs and milk for meals.
What a difference we make for our earth!

I think April Fool’s Day (愚人节) is a very unusual holiday. On April Fool’s Day, you have to watch out for practical jokes. You also can’t trust everything you hear on April 1st. Even some main newspapers will put fake news to fool people. I heard a story about how on April Fool’s Day, a London newspaper printed an article about how aliens (外星人) landed in England. This caused many people to be afraid and the local police were not very pleased with the newspaper.
It can be interesting to play tricks, but you’d better not to go too far. One April Fool’s Day, I called my mother from the university I attended. I told her that I failed all of my exams and because of this, I wasn’t able to graduate. She was so worried that she started to cry. I felt really bad about making her sad and tried to tell her it was just a joke. After I told her it was only an April Fool’s Day’s joke, she got angry with me that she hung up the phone. I had to call her back and apologize before she would talk to me again.
April Fool’s Day’s jokes can be funny, but you should be careful not to hurt people’s feelings and embarrass (使尴尬) them too much. Before you act, you should always make sure to put yourself in others’ shoes and think about how they might feel.

One restaurant near Xiyuan Subway Station provided space for the service corner. “Working in the restaurant, I can see deliverymen(外卖员)all the time. I know how hard it is for them to make money,” said Li Hui, the restaurant’s owner. “They sometimes can’t get hot water in winter. Service corners almost solve such problems. They warm outdoor workers’ hearts. I’m happy that I can do something useful for them.”
Before the service corners were built, 40-year-old deliveryman Zhang hoped to take a break indoors in order to get warm in winter or to cool off in summer. But he usually didn’t. “It is comfortable to rest indoors. But I don’t want to be any trouble to shop owners. So I would rest on my bike,” he said.

Wetlands! Valuable Resources on the Earth
There are many wetlands in China and some of them have become the world’s important wetlands.
