A teacher stood on the top of a ladder truck. It was five stories high. She held an egg that was attached(系) to several balloons and was about to drop it. The students below fixed their eyes on her and held their breath. Would the egg survive the drop
Welcome to Kelly Coombe's science class at Marsh Junior High in Chico, California. Coombe organized this activity to help students better understand the laws of physics.
She divided the 34 students into 17 teams of two people each. Each team designed a structure that would prevent an egg from breaking when it was dropped from about 15 meters high.
The students used different materials to protect the eggs. The typical materials included cotton balls, drinking straws(吸管), cardboard, socks and balloons.
Josh Addington and Bowen Jiang thought of a creative idea. They built a pyramid out of drinking straws and put the egg into a "capsule(胶囊)" on the top of the pyramid. Then they tied a helium-filled balloon(氦气球) on to the top to keep the device moving in the right direction, and put a water balloon at the bottom to allow the device to lightly land on the ground. "Our egg survived!" Jiang proudly told his teacher and classmates.
Coombe said the project was a "great way for kids to get excited about science".

For people, it's not surprising that we can open a door, lift a heavy box and control ourselves while walking in the snow. But can a robot do these Well, the new robot, Atlas, can not only do these things, but it can stand up if it falls down. Although the robot may be slow and clumsy, it was created mainly to work in dangerous places for humans.
Now, robots are much smarter than you might imagine. On March 9, AlphaGo, an artificial intelligence(人工智能) program made by DeepMind, challenged top professional Go player Lee Sedol from South Korea. And AlphaGo beat Lee at last.
AI is when computers or computer software is able to have intelligent behavior, such as thinking or acting like humans. In our daily life, we've already used AI in many ways, such as Apple's Siri and search engines like Baidu.
Some people may worry whether computers are now smart enough to beat us at everything. But experts say that is not the case. Real life problems can be more difficult than the Go game. For example, humans can watch a person throw down a cup of coffee and know that the result will be a mess on the floor. A computer program would have to know the size of the cup, the height of the cup from the floor and many other things to find out the result. But we never know what will happen in the future.

A. help the disabled people

C(2021·四川德阳中考)
As Internet users become more dependent on the Internet to store information, do people remember less If you know your computer will store information, why do you store it in your own personal memory, your brain Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how. In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow and her research team made some experiments.
In the first experiment, they asked two groups of people to put 40 unimportant facts into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would store the information. The second group understood that the computer would not store it. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it.
In the second experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the computer. Surprisingly, people later remembered where the information was better than the facts. When people used the computer, they remembered how to find the information. This is called "transitive memory(交互记忆)".
According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memories as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transitive memories; that is, people are learning how to organize a lot of information so that they are able to get it at a later date. This doesn't mean we are becoming either more or less clever, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.

She was also told her birth mother was a woman named Lillian Feinsilver and that she had died days after giving birth to her in New York. However, part of her believed her mother was still alive. The doubts troubled Joanne for years.
Shelley, Joanne's daughter-in-law, suggested taking a DNA test to find her birth family. That was in 2017, and Joanne was 79 years old. Joanne took the test, and about a year later Shelley received a message from a man named Sam Ciminieri, whose genetic(基因的) report had matched him with Joanne.

Joanne said to Lillian that she'd been told her birth mother had passed away. Seeing no expressions on Lillian's face, Joanne started to cry. At that point Lillian's eyes brightened. Joanne excitedly began telling Lillian all about her family. Lillian smiled. Then she said the words Joanne had waited more than 60 years to hear: "This is my daughter."

Many children like playing computer games so much that they can't get away from them.
So we should not spend too much time on the Internet chatting or playing games. Besides, we shouldn't always believe all the information we see on the Internet.
All in all, I think we must use the computer wisely and make it serve us better.
