66. How to get on well with others
As we all know, students should learn how to get on well with others. But in what ways
First of all, we should respect others. Everyone has their own way to do things, so we should understand each other. Besides, it is important for us to communicate with each other and share our happiness and sadness. What’s more, we should be kind to others and offer necessary help to those who are in trouble. In my opinion, we should treat others in an honest way.
Only in this way can we get along well with each other and feel happy.
67.Within an hour, police officers came to fetch Annabelle. They learned about Annabelle’s information and brought her back to her parents. They were shocked to know that their little girl had wandered off that early morning for a frozen treat. Annabelle’s mom was very happy to know that kind people found her daughter. She could not imagine what would have happened if things turned bad. If it were not for the kind driver, their daughter might not have returned home safe and sound.
Annabelle’s parents were happy to see her again. They first comforted the little girl and hugged her tightly. The little girl still remembered her mission and asked her mother to get her a slushie. Then till the daytime, when Harlan was off work, they brought the little girl and thanked him in person. They were full of gratitude. They knew it was not too hard to imagine what could have happened if people who found their daughter were not as kind as the ones who did find her. They said they would be forever grateful.

W: Good afternoon and welcome to Seattle Houseboat Tours. My name’s Elizabeth Jones and I’m your guide today. This is my houseboat Moonlight. Before we go on board, I’d like to give you a litde background information. Seattle has one of the largest numbers of houseboats in the US—about 500 of them in fact. That’s quite a high number and shows how popular houseboat living is here. We’re at the southern end of Lake Union right now. As you have probably seen already, this is a lively area with restaurants and shops and cafes. During our one-hour tour, you’ll see a number of houseboats. People can pay millions of dollars for the biggest of these. Some of them are quite amazing and have two or three floors. My own is one of the smallest boats, but I still have plenty of room, as you’ll see when I show you around. My living area includes one bedroom with a bathroom, a kitchen and a living room. I also have electricity, running water and network, so I really do have everything I need. You may be interested to know that I’m writing a book on the history of houseboats in the city, and this should be on sale from early July. Well, thank you for listening so far. Now let’s move into the boat and start the tour.

A small study out of Skidmore College examined the advantages of morning vs, evening exercise for both women and men. Paul, professor for health at Skidmore, led the study.
“We had the groups divided into evening and morning groups,” he says. “We found women and men answered differently to different types of exercise depending on the time of the day, which surprised us.”
The study showed that for women who want to lower blood pressure (血压), the risk of heart disease or reduce fat, morning exercise works best. Those women hoping for upper body muscle (肌肉) gains or mood (心情) improvement should consider evening exercise. For the men, the findings were somewhat different: Evening exercise lowers blood pressure, the risk of heart disease, and feelings of tiredness. But similar to women, they burn more fat with morning exercise.
“For many people, the best time to exercise will depend on their chronotype,” says Heisz, author of Move the Body, Heal the Mind.
“Chronotype is your body’s natural habit to sleep at a certain time—it’s what decides whether you’re a night owl or an early bird. For the 25% of the population that considers themselves a night owl, getting both enough sleep and enough exercise can be difficult,” adds Heisz.
He continues, “Sleep—which provides your body the necessary time to recover (恢复) and make gains from exercise—should always be the first choice. When it comes to exercise, regardless of research on the advantages of certain exercises at particular times of the day, your results will not be good if it doesn’t allow enough time for sleep.”
24.What can women get by doing evening exercise according to the study
A.A fat loss. B.A good mood.
C.A lower blood pressure. D.A smaller risk of heart disease.
25.What does the author intend to do in paragraph 5
A.Give an example. B.Tell the difference.
C.Do an experiment. D.Explain a term.
26.What does Heisz think is important to achieve good results of exercise
A.Enough sleep. B.Low-fat food.
C.Plenty of water. D.Lots of exercise.
27.What is the best title for the text
A.A Night Owl or An Early Bird B.Why Fitness Plan Being Important
C.How to Change Your Exercise Time D.The Best Time of a Day to Exercise

Henrietta Swan Leavitt was born on July 4, 1868, in Massachusetts. Little is known about her private life. As a college student, she studied a number of subjects and fell in love with astronomy(天文学).
Leavitt never married and was considered a serious woman with little time to waste on unimportant aspects of life. Her co-workers described her as pleasant and friendly, and much focused on the importance of the work she was doing. She began to lose her hearing as a young woman due to a condition that only worsened with time.
In 1893, she began working at Harvard College Observatory under the direction of astronomer E.C. Pickering. He directed a group of women, who were called “computers”. These “computers” conducted important astronomy research by studying photographic plates(照相底片)of the sky and cataloging(编入目录) characteristics of stars. The women were not allowed to operate telescopes, which limited their ability to conduct their own research. They lived at a time when women’s contributions were undervalued or ignored.
Henrietta Swan Leavitt continued her research until just before her death, always thinking of herself as an astronomer, despite her start as a nameless “computer” in Pickering’s department. While Leavitt was not officially recognized during her life for her work, Harlow Shapley, the astronomer who was the Harvard College Observatory director, did recognize her worth and made her head of Stellar Photometry in 1921.
At that time Leavitt was suffering from cancer, and she died at the same year. This prevented her from being recognized as a Nobel Prize owner for her contributions. After her death, her name was placed on a lunar crater(月球陨石坑), and asteroid(小行星)5383 Leavitt carries her name. At least one book has been published about her and her name is usually mentioned as part of the history of astronomical contributions.
28.What can we learn about Leavitt
A.She was hard to get along with. B.She suffered from cancer in childhood.
C.She never regarded herself as an astronomer. D.She became interested in astronomy at college.
29.Why were the women regarded as “computers”
A.They devoted themselves to science. B.They were looked down upon by others.
C.They used to serve as working computers. D.They knew nothing but photographic plates.
30.What happened after Leavitt’s death
A.She was honored in a special way. B.A Nobel Prize was awarded to her.
C.One of her books was published. D.Her achievements were ignored.
31.Which of the following can best describe Leavitt
A.Devoted. B.Generous. C.Reliable. D.Energetic.

Tia Wimbush and Susan Ellis have been co-workers for a decade, and while they didn’t know each other well, they had a lot in common, both working in information technology at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and both dealing with the same medical stress at home: their spouses each needed a kidney transplant, and while Wimbush could have given her husband one of hers, she wasn’t an ideal match. Ellis, meanwhile, was no match at all for her husband.
One day, in the fall of 2020, the women saw each other in the office restroom and started chatting, lamenting that patients can wait five or more years for their name to come up on the national kidney cadaver donor waiting list. Both women worried their husbands didn’t have that kind of time.
Wimbush asked Ellis what her husband’s blood type was. He’s type O, Ellis replied.
Wimbush then said that her husband was type AB.
The women paused for a moment and looked at each other.
“I told Susan, ‘Wait a second-what are the odds that we’re both going through this with our husbands at the same time and we could also be in a position to help them ’” Wimbush says. “That’s when we both knew: We had to get tested.”
So they did. Antibody tests revealed that each woman was an excellent match for the other’s spouse. And in March 2021, seven months after that chance conversation, Tia Wimbush donated one of her kidneys to Lance Ellis, and Susan Ellis donated one of hers to Rodney Wimbush.
Christina Klein, a nephrologist and medical director of Piedmont Atlanta Hospital’s kidney transplant program, says it is extremely rare for two people to propose their own paired organ exchange and actually be a match for each other. “I’ve personally never seen this happen,” Dr. Klein says. “When we put pairs into large databases for national paired exchange programs, some pairs wait months or even years for a compatible match.”
The couples first met a few days before the surgeries when they came to the hospital for a final round of testing. Before that, they had chatted on FaceTime a bit. The surgeries lasted about three to four hours each and were a success, with no complications.
“It’s really just a story about simple kindness,” Susan Ellis says. “For us, it started with two people just being good humans. Now we’d like to tell people they can do the same.”
Rodney Wimbush says he will be forever grateful that his wife decided to bring up a conversation about blood types in the office restroom. “Susan and Lance are going to come with us to North Carolina for our son’s first college football game,” his wife adds. “I guess you could say we’ve skipped the friendship. We’re family now.”
32.Tia Wimbush and Susan Ellis shared all the following EXCEPT that __________.
A.they worked in IT department B.their spouses were in need of a kidney transplant
C.their spouses’ blood types were type O D.they were good-hearted and unselfish
33.The underlined word lamenting in paragraph two is closest in meaning to __________.
A.emphasizing the importance B.expressing the disappointment
C.admitting the incapability D.accepting the fact
34.It can be concluded from the passage that __________.
A.it was a planned conversation that contributed to the kidney donation of Tia and Susan
B.Dr. Klein was amazed that two acquaintances should donate their organs to each other’s spouse
C.the couples didn’t chat until they went to the hospital for a final round of testing

Mixing
39 For example, while studying maths, you could mix multiplication(乘法) and division(除法) problems. It may be better for long-term learning.
Teaching
Teaching is also a powerful way to learn. Researchers compared different groups of students. Some did not expect to have to teach information, while others did. When they actually teach a lesson, they develop a deeper understanding of the material.
In a word, you can create your own plan based on what you need to learn. You might organize your study periods with the Pomodoro technique. Then, you can test yourself and mix different topics. There are many choices. 40

It was the wee hours (凌晨) of a rainy morning and Harlan was out to drive his SEPTA's 56 bus on his regular route (路线).As usual, he picked up his passengers (乘客) one by one. Wearing her purple raincoat, sleeping clothes, and her boots, little Annabelle was patiently waiting for the bus to stop so she could ride on it.
The bus driver could not believe his eyes. His passengers at the time were also shocked to see a tiny kid all alone in the rain at that moment. Seeing a child about the age of a preschooler at 3 am without any adult (成年人) with her was surely a shock. Harlan was quite surprised and then it hit him. He had to do something to take the little girl safely back home.
He and the passengers on the bus tried to find out how this happened. As it turned out, Annabelle even walked 5 blocks (街区) in the rain before she reached the bus stop where she was found. Without hesitation (犹豫) , Harlan called the local police and told them of the little girl they found.
As Annabelle sat on the bus, the passengers comforted (安慰) her and made sure she was okay. As the little girl sat with the other passengers, she shared her mission (使命) that early morning. “All I want is a slushie(冰沙),” That was all she said. By the way, slushie is a frozen treat (冷冻食品) .
