(2022秋·广东广州·九年级校考期中)Seeing people in your family fight can be really terrible. Whether the fight is about you or not, you might feel sad, angry or even ashamed (难为情的) when your family members shout at each other. 1 Here are some ideas.
Keep your cool. 2 If you are very angry, you can try to take a deep breath or count to 10. Before you talk with your family members, you can also make some physical movements. For example, you can hit a baseball a few times or beat your pillow (枕头) heavily.
Call a family meeting. See if there’s a good time that works for everyone in your family to get together. 3 If you are a young boy or girl, try asking your parents to call a family meeting.
Listen to everyone. 4 That way, everyone can say what’s going on. Sometimes, letting everyone talk is not easy especially when their words make you mad. However, if you let everyone talk, they’ll listen to what you will say, too. 5 Instead of blaming (责备) your family members or calling them out, try to speak out your feelings as peacefully as possible. For example, instead of saying “You shout at me too much”, you could say, “I feel afraid when you shout at me.”
根据材料内容,从下面五个选项中选出能填入文中空缺处的最佳选项,使短文意思通顺、内容完整。
A.Use “I” to express your feelings.
B.It’s not easy to keep calm during a fight.
C.Give everyone in the family a chance to speak.
D.Do you want to know how to end a family fight
E.Then you can meet together and talk about the family fight.

Five Ways to Build Self-Confidence
Walk Faster
One of the easiest ways to tell how a person feels about herself is to examine her walk. People with confidence walk quickly. They have places to go, people to see, or important work to do. 6 Walking 25% faster will make you look and feel more important.
Create a Personal Speech
One of the best ways to build confidence is listening to an inspiring speech. Unluckily, opportunities to listen to a great speaker are few. You can fill this need by creating a personal commercial. Write a 30-60 second speech that focuses on your strengths and goals. 7
Sit in the Front Row
In schools, offices and some other public places, people always sit at the back of the room. 8 This reflects a lack of self-confidence. By deciding to sit in the front row, you can get over this meaningless fear and build your self-confidence.
Speak Up
During group discussions many people never express their opinions because they’re afraid that people will judge them for their saying something stupid. 9 By making an effort to express your opinions at least once in every group discussion, you will become a better public speaker, more confident in your own thoughts and recognized as a leader by your peers (同龄人).
Work Out
10 If you’re too fat or too thin, you’ll feel unsafe, unattractive, and tired. By making your body fit and strong, you improve your physical appearance, refresh yourself, and make more achievements.
A.Physical fitness has a huge influence on self-confidence.
B.In fact, most people are dealing with the same fear.
C.Even if you aren’t in a hurry, you can increase your self-confidence by speeding up.
D.Most people prefer that because they are afraid of being noticed.
E.Then read it aloud in front of the mirror whenever you need more confidence.

Hi, everyone. I’m Yao Ming. 11 That’s where I met my first NBA star, Tim Hardaway. He looked like the rest of us — two hands, two legs, one head — but he was quicker than anybody I’d ever seen, especially the way he played with the ball. 12
There were eighty-five players at the camp, and I wore number 85. I don’t remember who the best player in camp was because I didn’t know what good basketball was then. At that time, I was just thinking I would play in the Chinese Basketball Association. I didn’t worry about how good Hardaway was. 13
The trip to Paris made a big impression on me. 14 I’d learnt not just about basketball, but maybe about myself and my place in the world of basketball. I found out there were a lot of great players outside China and how good a player could be. I knew for the first time where I stood among the best young players in the world. I thought “I’m not that good, but I’m not that bad.” 15 There was no way to really know that until I left China.
A.I didn’t think I’d see anyone like Hardaway, either.
B.I was there for only six days, but I learned a lot.
C.He would challenge everyone to play one-on-one until he was too tired to move.
D.I left China for the first time in 1997 to go to the Nick camp in Paris.
E.Besides, I learned what was possible during the time in the camp.

Is there a connection between music and language According to recent studies, the answer is yes: 21 Here, we look at two examples
A recent study by researcher Kraus shows that playing a musical instrument can improve a person's hearing ability. 22 The people in the first group were musicians, while those in the second group had no musical training. The musicians were able to hear the talking person more clearly.
23 Think about violinists in an orchestra (管弦乐团). When the violinists play with the group, they hear their own instrument and many others, too. But the violinists must listen closely to what they are playing, and pay no attention to the other sounds. In this way, musicians are able to focus on certain sounds, even in a room with lots of noise.
Schlaug, a doctor at Harvard Medical School, works with stroke (中风) patients. Because of their illness, these people cannot say their names, addresses, or other information normally. However, they can still sing. 24 Why does this work Schlaug isn't sure. Music seems to make different parts of the brain work, including the damaged (损坏的) parts. This might help patients to use that part of the brain again.
Music improves concentration (注意力), memory, listening skills, and our overall language abilities. 25 Playing an instrument or singing can help us do better in school and keep our brain sharp (敏锐的)as we get older. Music is not only enjoyable, it's also good for us in many other ways.
A.It can even help sick people get better.
B.Schlaug was surprised to find that singing words helped his patients to speak.
C.Music improves certain language abilities in the brain.
D.In his study two groups of people listened to a person talking in a noisy room.
E.Musicians hear better because they learn to pay attention to certain sounds.

Buying, storing, and cooking fish isn’t difficult. 47 This passage is about how to buy and cook fish in an easy way.

Frozen fish isn’t as delicious as the fresh one.
50 The easiest is to steam it. First, clean it and season it with your choice of spices(调料). Put the whole fish on a plate and steam it in a steam pot for 8 to 10 minutes if it weighs about one pound.(A larger one will take more time.) Then, it’s ready to serve.

Imagine you are studying abroad in London. Your parents have sent you a package. You go to the post office and ask the postman when it will arrive. He tells you in “a fortnight”. You walk away shaking your head. 66 If you don’t know what it means you have probably been studying American English, which sometimes uses different words from British English. In the US, instead of saying your package will arrive in “a fortnight”, they would say, in “two weeks”. 67
Besides simple differences like spelling, like “colour” in London compared to “color” in New York, there are even more different words. For example, In Britain you could be driving your car on a “dual carriageway” while in the US you would be driving down a “freeway” or “highway”. 68 However, in Britain you would ask for a “petrol station”. If you got really confused and wanted to call someone for help at a public telephone, you’d still have problems. 69 It definitely will get you even more confused.
70 You can actually learn a lot from both two languages. It doesn’t matter which English you study, British or American, although people from each country will tell you their language is best. The key though, when writing a paper or sitting an exam, is to pick one and stick with it throughout.
A.In Britain it’s called a “phone box” while in America it is called a “telephone booth”.
B.But these differences make the language more exciting and help you continue to learn.
C.This is just one of the examples of the different words between the two languages.
D.When will your package arrive and what is a fortnight
E.What’s more if you need to fill up, you had better ask for a “gas station” in US.

Americans eat only about fifteen pounds of fish per person per year, but we eat twice as much fish in restaurants as at home. Buying, storing, and cooking fish isn’t difficult. 47 This passage is about how to buy and cook fish in an easy way.
48 Fresh fish should smell sweet: you should feel that you’re standing at the ocean’s edge. Any fishy or strong smell means the fish isn’t fresh. 49 When you have bought a fish and arrive home, you’d better store the fish in the fridge if you don’t cook it immediately, but fresh fish should be stored in your fridge for only a day or two.
A.Do not buy it.
