范文:
After I pictured it over and over again, my high school’s Orientation Day finally arrived last
Monday! First of all, our headmaster, Mr. Meng, hosted the welcome ceremony, delivering a
speech which encouraged us to work hard and make the most of what our school provided. Then,
we freshmen were shown around the campus, with new teachers leading us to classrooms, labs,
dormitories and so on. We were surprised to find the new campus so huge and modern! At the
end of the day, we received a small gift from our headteacher. What a surprise!
Well begun, half done. I am sure the Orientation Day is a good beginning to my senior
school life.

范文:
Meanwhile, her new classmates were busying working on something. They were going to
give Eva their “hearts”. Quickly but quietly, Ms. Robins, with an exquisite paper bag she fetched
from her office, was walking around the classroom to collect the candy hearts. Growing heavy
with the paper bag was the students’ welcome for their new classmate. Sitting beside Eva, Chase
felt his heart racing and palms sweating. In order not to ruin the new year surprise for Eva, he
pretended to be discussing math problems with her to occupy her attention. The stone in his
heart finally dropped when Ms Robins tiptoed towards him and placed the paper bag on his
hands.
“Here’s your new year gift, Eva. It’s from everyone.” Chase said. Surprise written on Eva’s
face, she turned around and was greeted by the sunny smiles on her classmates’ faces. “Open it,”
Chase encouraged. No sooner had she opened the paper bag than everybody cheered, “Happy
New Year”. The candies which were made in the shape of hearts blurred her eyes. If only she
had been able to express how much this precious gift meant to her. Springing from her seat, she
stepped forward and bowed to her new but considerate classmates, who not only erased her

anxiety but also planted the seed of hope in her heart. What a hearty welcome!

Welcome to our new show, Colorful Animal Kingdom: a program introducing animals to the
young and old. In today's show, I will talk about how to raise bearded dragons. Bearded dragons
{#{QQABSCQQYEAoggigAgAAhBABAAAAQAggCCQQwwGXCQCgAGKQkkAAEGCCACAKooGGgBFFAAIsEAoAAAAAAAwNQANBABAA=A}#=}}#}
originate from the deserts of Australia, and this is one of several species that survive in that
climate. Today, bear dies like this one are fed here in the US. First, you need to have the right
supplies: a cage or something like that, a UV bulb, branches and rocks to climb on and rest on, a
food or water dish, and something to line the bottom of the cage. You can even take them
outside three times a week in the direct sunlight. Then it comes to the dietary needs of a bearded
dragon. They mainly eat insects, vegetables and the leaves of plants. Well, since bearded
dragons traditionally live in dry regions, they obtain most of their water naturally from what they
eat. You have to be sure to feed them plenty of vegetables that serve as good carriers of water.

The creation of the Oxford English Dictionary began in 1857, took seventy years to complete, came from tens of thousands of excellent minds, and organized the sprawling language into 414,825 precise definitions(精准的定义). But behind its creation is a fascinating and mysterious story —— a story of two remarkable men whose strange twenty-year relationship lies at the core of this historic undertaking.
Professor James Murray, an astonishingly learned former schoolmaster and bank clerk, was the famous editor ( 编 辑 ) of the OED project. Dr. William Chester Minor, an American doctor from New Haven, Connecticut, who had served in the Civil War, was one of thousands of contributors(供稿人) who contributed illustrative quotations(引文)of words to be used in the dictionary. But Minor was not an ordinary contributor. He had sent thousands of neat, handwritten quotations from his home in the small village of Crowthorne, fifty miles from Oxford.
Murray invited Minor to visit Oxford and celebrate his work, but his offer was regularly and mysteriously refused. Thus the two men, for two decades, kept a close relationship only
through mails. Finally, in 1896, after Minor had sent nearly ten thousand definitions to the dictionary but had still never traveled from his home, a puzzled Murray set out to visit him. It was then that Murray finally learned the truth about Minor - that, in addition to being a masterful wordsmith, Minor was also a murderer, mentally ill and locked up in Broadmoor, England's harshest asylum for criminal madmen.
When did the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary come to an end A. In 1857 B. In 1877 C. In 1896 D. In 1927
What can we learn from the passage
Minor was one of the learned editors of the OED project.
Minor was invited by Murray in person to work on the OED.
Minor and Murray had become friends before the OED project.
Minor contributed a large number of quotations to the OED project.
Which word can best describe Minor
unfriendly B. calm C. devoted D. dishonest
Which of the following can be the best title of the passage
A mysterious story hidden in the OED.
Minor—— an extraordinary contributor.
A professor’s friendship with a madman.
The road from a murderer to a wordsmith.

For generations of Chinese college students, the college life starts with military training ( 军训). Young people are not required to enlist for compulsory military service( 服兵役)in China, but most of them have to go through military training before academic studies.
More than 2,000 colleges and 22,000 high schools have adopted the practice, with over 20 million students participating in training every year, CCTV reported.
Around 5.95 million college students from 2,898 universities and colleges will attend military training this fall. And 84,000 officers and soldiers will be sent for the training tasks.
The practice is generally made up of both theoretical teaching and physical( 身体上的)
training. Students have to pass theory exam and the physical training usually lasts around two weeks. During the physical training, students have to follow soldiers’ daily routine and go through intensive formation training. Military songs and some fighting skills are also taught during the course.
Though it has caused doubts and complaints, the training, which has been in practice for decades, is still considered necessary by many educators in teaching students how to bear hardship and lead a disciplined life.
“It’s really a hard time for us because we are princes and princesses at home,” said Liu Junhua, a freshman from Xi’an Jiaotong University,“Now we need to be burnt in the sun. How terrible! But it’s good for us. We’ll learn how to be strong, bear the hot sun and listen to the order. In the future, no matter what difficulty I come across, I will never give up. ”
Hot topics about military training have come up online, including 10 to 20 people bunk-bed room, stuffy green uniforms (制服), long exposure to sun, rough food, limited time and chance to take shower. Because of the hardship of training, many freshmen look for advice ahead of the training. Now, social media plays the role of instructor.
How many college students will take part in military training this year
A. 20 million. B. 22,000. C.84,000. D. 5.95 million.
Which of the followings is included in military training
A physical examination. B. Singing military songs.
C. Compulsory military service. D. Academic studies.
What probably will be mentioned in the following passage
Some specific advice for freshmen from social media.
Other hot topics discussed online about military training.
Ways to improve living conditions during military training.
College students’ various opinions on military training. 35.Where is the passage most probably taken from
A. A research paper. B. A history textbook.
C. A health magazine. D. A daily newspaper.

A Hearty Welcome
Chase counted his new year gifts one more time as he put a robot-shaped eraser into each envelope. “Twenty, twenty-one, twenty-two.”
“Do you have one for everyone in your class ” Mom asked. “Yep!” Chase said. “I’m ready for the party tomorrow!”
When Chase got to school the next day, he saw a new girl in his classroom. She stood near Ms. Robins and looked around shyly.
“This is Eva,” said Ms. Robins. “Will someone volunteer to show her around today “Chase raised his hand since he liked showing the new kids around and helping them feel welcome.
“Thanks, Chase, ”Ms. Robins said. “Now let’s get down to our work.”
That’s when Chase realized he didn’t have a new year gift for Eva. No one else would have one either. Chase pictured his classmates’ desks covered with gifts while Eva’s desk was empty. He felt sad about that.
At a break, he was careful not to mention the party as he showed Eva around the playground. At lunchtime, he walked Eva to the lunchroom, still worried about what would happen at the party. Eva had brought a packed lunch. so Chase showed her where she was supposed to sit and introduced her to some of the kids at her table.
While eating, Chase suddenly remembered that kids often included candy hearts with the new year gifts they exchanged. This won’t be a New Year’s Day for Eva with no gifts. But as he sat down at his table, an idea came into his head. He whispered(低语)it to the kids around him. Soon everyone at the table was nodding and whispering.
When they were back in the classroom after lunch, Chase told Ms. Robins about their plan.
Ms. Robins smiled. “That’s very thoughtful,” she said. “Let’s go for it.”
It was math time, so Chase invited Eva to study with him. He made sure Eva sat with her back to the room so she wouldn’t notice.
