66.Dear Jim,
I’m worried that you’ve been addicted to sharing all sorts of photos in WeChat circle recently. Undeniably, WeChat makes communication convenient and leisure time colorful. However, there exist some potential risks if we overshare. One severe problem is leaking privacy, which may cause economic losses. Besides, oversharing can make others uncomfortable, for they think you are showing off.
Thus, never should we post our personal information, nor should we rashly add strangers to the list of friends. It’s wiser to set aside some time to accompany parents or do something more meaningful.
Best wishes!
Yours truly,
Li Hua
67.Suddenly, he noticed an elderly woman who dropped her purse on the ground when getting off her car. Rick assisted her in picking it up, and she thanked him and told him she was going to see her doctor. Rick asked the elderly woman to do him a favor immediately. Rick told her he was on the way to see his mom and that his car ran out of gas. Helplessly, Rick asked her to share some of her gas.
The elderly said hesitantly that she wanted to help but she had to see her doctor. Rick begged that it might be the last time that he saw his mom. Then, the woman gave Rick a concerned look and she asked more details why Rick needed the gas so urgently. Without any hesitation, the woman finally agreed to drive Rick to his car. After his car was able to start, Rick thanked the woman again. “All right. Now leave; your mother is waiting for you.” Rick thanked her once more and drove to the hospital as quickly as possible.

M: Hello, everyone. We are lucky to have Molly Taylor here today. Molly is organizing an activity course for the summer holidays. Molly, this is the second year of the course, isn’t it
W: Yes. The summer course operated for the first time last year for a six-week period. We did think about making it longer this year and have a seven-week course, as there are some schools which finish the term a week earlier. In fact, two schools have eight-week holidays. But in the end we decided to keep to the same plan as last year.
M: But, from what I have been told, last year’s course wasn’t a complete success, was it
W: Well, we were actually very surprised by the number of children interested in the course. We didn’t actually have enough assistants to look after all the children. Besides, there was such a lot of rain that we couldn’t go outside as often as we wanted to.
M: So, what activities can the children look forward to this year
W: Well, once again there will be artists and musicians who will lead creative classes. We also considered providing some more exciting adventure sports. But we decided not to, in the end. Instead we’ll introduce some fun programs. I think it’ll be great fun for the children.

Duolingo is a free language-learning website and app. It offers ad-free courses for those who want to learn a new language. As of 2016, Duolingo has fifty-nine different language courses for twenty-three languages. Over 120 million people are registered with the program. Duolingo was created in 2011 by Professor Luis von Ahn and his graduate student Severin Hacker, who was born in Switzerland. Prof. Luis von Ahn was born in Guatemala, and he was upset by how expensive it was for people in his town to learn English. He wanted to create a program that offered free education to anyone in the world. Because most of the services are available free of charge, Duolingo originally used a special business model to make money. Members of the public were able to translate content and vote on correct translations. The content came from large websites such as BuzzFeed and CNN.com, which paid Duolingo to translate their webpages. Many private investors have given money to the company, including actor Ashton Kutcher’s firm. Duolingo has also been used in public schools in Costa Rica and Guatemala.宜宾市叙州区2023-2024学年高二上学期10月月考

We’ve got two dogs, Roxie and Cosita. My childhood memories are full of the cats we’ve loved, from my dad’s cat, Bandit, to our beloved white cat Cecelia, whose gray fur formed a perfect heart shape across her stomach. But since our last cat friend, Sunny the orange cat, died too young, we’ve been cat-less. The sudden loss of Sunny was hard to move on from, especially for my mom.
This year, Mom finally thought she was ready for a new kitten. It was all she wanted for her birthday on June 16. “Roxie and Cosita need a new friend!” she said. In the week leading up to her birthday, something happened. She started to hear a kitten’s meow (喵叫声) in the garage. Every time she went in and out of the garage, she could hear the soft cries but couldn’t tell the exact position of the sound. She asked my dad if he heard it too. He only shrugged (耸肩). At last, Mom’s birthday was arriving. She kept her fingers crossed, hoping for a kitten.
Over the past week, my dad had heard the kitten’s meow every time he walked past my mom’s car. One day he opened the hood (车盖) of the car, and a yellow kitten stared back at him. How in the world did she get there And where did she come from Dad didn’t know, but he fed the kitten every day, waiting for the day he’d give her to Mom.
The little kitten was such a perfect birthday gift, and Dad even didn’t need to leave the house to find her for my mom’s happy birthday! When it came time to name our new furry friend, we took inspiration from a song famously performed by Wilson Pickett and called her “Sally”.
24.What was difficult for Mom to forget
A.The young orange cat’s death. B.The moving of one of her friends.
C.The sudden death of the cat Bandit. D.The heart shape across Cecelia’s stomach.

27.What would be the best title for the text
A.A new home for Sally B.My pet friends in memory
C.My mom’s happy birthday D.An unexpected birthday gift

Eyes may be the “windows to the soul,” but depending on who’s reading them, they might tell very different stories. A new study in the UK found that women are more likely to notice something than men when determining another person’s feelings based only on their eyes and eyebrows.
In the study, the researchers surveyed a total of 2,000 men and women in the UK. They were shown pairs of eyes and eyebrows and asked to choose the correct term that describes which emotion (情绪) that person is expressing. In general, women were found to be slightly better at reading other people. Two thirds of women in the survey correctly recognized five or more emotions. Only 56 percent of men were able to do this.
The researchers also found that women were more confident in their ability to read emotions. Half of them reported that they were either “slightly better” or “much better” at doing so than their friends and family, while only 44 percent of men said the same. The survey also showed that men and women differ in their abilities to notice particular emotions.
Women were more likely to recognize “vulnerable emotions,” including someone being shocked or scared. More than three quarters of them were able to do so, but only 60 percent of men could tell that someone was scared. When it comes to recognizing a “guilty” look, women beat men by five percent.
In the survey, men were found to be better at recognizing emotions related to desire and anger. Roughly 58 percent of men could correctly discover someone was interested in something from what they saw, and 41.9 percent could recognize desire.
The researchers say the ability improves with age — until you reach 65. The best scores were seen in people aged 55-64 and 45-54. People aged 65 and over were best at determining when a person is “guilty.” On average, people scored 4.9/10 on the test. The researchers say this suggests that most people can’t recognize other people’s moods as much as they think they might.
28.What did the researchers find in the study
A.Men were better at noticing guilty looks.
B.Men did better than women in recognizing anger and desire.
C.Women could recognize people’s emotions from their eyes and words.
D.Women were confident in their ability to show different emotions.
29.The underlined word “vulnerable” in the fourth paragraph probably means “_______”.
A.easily hurt or affected B.not well behaved C.prepared to fight D.hard to get along with
30.Which of the following statements is TRUE, according to the text
A.Most people can’t truly realize what a person is feeling.
B.Men and women have the same ability to recognize particular emotions.
C.The older a person is, the better he or she can read other people’s emotions.
D.People aged 65 can best notice whether a person is interested in something.
31.What may be the best title for the text
A.Eyes Are the Windows to the Soul B.The Ability to Read Emotions Matters a Lot
C.How Can You Manage Your Emotions D.How Well Can You Read Emotions

It is a well-known fact that plastic bottles, which take hundreds of years to rot, are harmful to our environment. However, efforts by environmentalists to encourage consumers to switch to alternatives, like water fountains or reusable bottles, have not been very effective. The U.S. alone uses over 50 million plastic bottles annually, 80% of which end up in landfills.
To try to stop that, Rodrigo García González, Pierre Paslier and Guillaume Couche from the Imperial College London have been working on a revolutionary solution — water wrapped inside an eatable container made mostly from seaweed. All the customer has to do to relieve his/her thirst is pop the entire drop into the mouth.
The inventors, who have been working on the Ooho bubble since 2014, use a simple two-step cooking process called spherification (球化) to create the delicate container. They begin by dipping a frozen ball of water or juice into a chemical solution (溶液). This helps form a layer around the liquid. The ball is then absorbed in a solution made from seaweed extract. This creates a second layer, helping strengthen the structure so that the water or juice does not leak. In addition to saving our environment, the biodegradable (可降解的) packaging costs just two cents each, making it cheaper to produce than plastic.
After three years of perfecting the design, the inventors, who recently raised over 1 million USD from a financial activity, are ready to bring the Ooho bubble to local market. However, there are a few challenges that still need to be overcome before the product’s launch. In addition to getting accustomed to the taste of the covering, each eatable container contains just a mouthful of water, requiring consumers to drink multiple bubbles to relieve their thirst. There is also the issue of finding an eco-friendly packaging to transport the bubbles so that they remain clean and do not burst. Hopefully, the inventors will find ways to handle the issues so that we can reduce, or perhaps even remove, plastic bottles.
32.Why was the Ooho bubble created
A.To test a newly-designed material. B.To change consumers’ drinking habit.
C.To reduce pollution caused by plastic. D.To take a share of drinking water industry.
33.What will the inventors probably do next
A.Solve some specific problems of the product. B.Collect more money to expand production.
C.Distribute the Ooho bubble to global market. D.Advertise the advantages of the Ooho bubble.
34.What is the author’s attitude towards the Ooho bubble’s launch
A.Uncaring. B.Doubtful. C.Confident. D.Opposed.
35.Which of the following could be the best title for the text

“Rick, I’m sorry to say that your mom’s health is failing,” Doctor Carter said over the phone.
“What ” Rick panicked. “But my mom was okay until last week. How could it happen ”
“We had also thought she was improving, but her body is no longer responding to the treatment. In fact, I don’t think she has much time, so I have to inform you,” Mr. Carter said before hanging up.
Rick’s heart dropped to the ground. His mom was dying, and he had to get to her. Rick dropped everything and got into his car immediately.
To see his mom as soon as possible, Rick chose a shorter path through the freeway that would help him get there faster. Unfortunately, he completely ignored the fuel indicator—which implied that his car was about to run out of gas-until he was already on the highway with no one in sight. He managed to park the car by the side of the road.
Rick checked his phone for the nearest fuel station, and it was miles away. However, he noticed a convenience store nearby. It wasn’t a long walk, so he decided to ask for help there.
When he arrived there 15 minutes later, he saw two men exiting the store. He quickly went up to them. “Hey, man,” he said. “Could you spare me some of your gas I’m on my way to see my mother. She’s sick, but my car ran out of gas.”
The two men exchanged a quick glance and said, “Sorry. We’re in a hurry and we can’t help your mom.”
Rick was at a loss. He entered the convenience store and asked several people for help, but it didn’t take them long to turn him down. He was anxious at this point, terrified that he would never see his mom again. He walked out of the store, feeling helpless.
