语篇能力
一、阅读理解

When you are learning English, you find it not clever to put an English sentence, word for word, into your own language. Take the sentence “How do you do ” as an example. If you look up each word in the dictionary, once at a time, what is your translation(翻译) It must be a wrong sentence in your own language.
Languages do not just have different sounds. They are different in many ways. It’s important to master(掌握)the rules for word order(顺序)in the study of English, too. If the speakers put words in a wrong order, the listener can’t understand the speakers’ sentences easily. Sometimes when the order of words in an English sentence is changed, the meaning of the sentence changes. But sometimes when the order is changed, the meaning of the sentence doesn’t change. Let’s see the difference between the two pairs of sentences.
“She only likes apples.” “Only she likes apples.”

Sometimes we turn to others for advice on major career (职业) decisions. But they may direct us in the wrong direction.
Why did so much career advice finally misguide us ________ We often listen to the wrong group. I have watched many students depend on their parents and grandparents for advice, forgetting that they grew up in the time when it was common to spend a whole career in one workplace.
Then what about going to people who are qualified (具备 资历的) to give advice The truth is that even they hardly know what’s right for us. Advisors give their advice depending too much on their own experiences instead of thinking from our perspective (视角).
But is there anything we can do You have probably noticed that you are wiser when giving advice to others than you are in making decisions for yourself. You are not alone. It’s hard for us to make a good decision because we stand too close to our own problems. The truth here is that one of the best ways to get better advice is to give it. Sure enough researchers find that we become wiser when we think about our problems from a third person perspective. One reason may be that it’s easier for us to keep a cool head. And it also gives us more motivation ( 动力) to hold on to the last.
If you want to get better career advice, you can start by considering what you would tell someone else with a similar question. Listen to the advice you give to others. It’s usually the advice you need to take yourself. And it might be the best way to motivate yourself, too.

When was the last time you thought about breathing (呼吸) Most people usually do not. When we are healthy, breathing happens naturally and easily. The human breathing system (系统) works hard and doesn’t have much influence on us. That’s why we don’t feel clearly about this.
Experts say we take about 20, 000 breaths every day, and they note that our “breathing muscles (肌肉) are working every minute of the day, every day of our lives. “And they mention deep breathing is important because it’s good for our health.
When you breathe deeply, the air comes into your nose and makes your lungs (肺) full. An expert says that deep breathing may slow the heartbeat, lower blood pressure and lower stress. Deep breaths help your body fully exchange incoming oxygen (氧气) with outgoing carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) .
A study shows that if you practice deep breathing over and over again, it can help remove dirty air from the lungs. This will increase oxygen levels and get your lungs to return to its job of helping you breathe.
Deep breathing is a good way to reduce stress and relax. Take a slow, deep breath through your nose. Feel your hand go up. Your stomach should rise and expand. Now breathe out slowly through your mouth. If you keep doing that 3 to 5 times, you can find it easy to calm down and relax yourselves.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II (英国女王伊丽莎白二世) has made many English people feel sad. Some are crying, others have been reminded (提醒) of friends and relatives (亲戚) who have died. Although death can be a frightening word, it’s a natural part of life-and it is important to talk about it.
WHAT IS GRIEF
Grief is a natural emotional response (反应) to the death of a person—or a pet—that you love or feel close to. In some cultures, grief is quiet and private (私人的), while other people may cry out loud. There is no right or wrong way for grief. What seems strange to one person can be natural and common to another. Queen Elizabeth I once said, “Grief is the price we pay for love.”
WHAT DOES GRIEF FEEL LIKE
Losing someone can leave a hole in your life and make you feel sad and bad. The charity Young Minds says everyone experiences grief differently and for different lengths of time. It’s normal to feel emotions like anger, fear, anxiety (焦虑) and sadness. Prince Harry’s mother Diana died when he was 12. In March 2020, he wrote to children who had a parent who died in the pandemic (疫情). He said, “You may feel alone, you may feel sad, you may feel angry and you may feel bad. This feeling will pass. And I will make a promise to you—you will feel better and stronger once you are ready to talk about how it makes you feel.”
HOW TO DEAL WITH LOSS
Poppy Mardall runs a company (公司) that organises funerals (葬礼).She says it’s important to talk to someone you trust (信任) about your feelings and not hide them away. Don’t be afraid of doing something that makes you smile, like watching a film or meeting up with friends. Even though a loved one has died, says Mardall, your relationship with them is still alive; your memory and feelings for them will stay with you through your whole life. So try writing them a letter, poem or song, or draw a picture of them. “Share your memories with other people,” says Mardall.

We recycle rubbish, so why not language Recycling language means using vocabulary (词汇) that you have learned before again and again. However, unlike rubbish that piles up (堆积) in our environment, if we do not recycle language, we simply forget it. So how do you recycle language There are basically three ways to do it.
The first is through reading. Go back to your favorite articles and read them once more. Just reread them and do not worry about each vocabulary item. If there are some that you are not sure about, make a guess and you will probably guess right.

Maybe you are an ordinary student. You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not surely so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here is how.
Plan your time carefully
When planning your week, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making the list, you should make a schedule of your time. First plan your time: eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide a good, regular time for studying. Don’t forget to set aside enough time for enjoyment. A weekly schedule may not solve all the problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.
Find a good place to study
Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this place, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios or TV! When you sit down to study, put your mind into the subject.
Make good use of your time in class
Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teacher says. Real listening in class means less work later. Taking class notes will help you remember what the teacher says.
Study regularly
When you get home from schools, go over your notes. Review the important points that your teacher has referred to in class. If you know what your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read the material. This will help you understand the next class. If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you will remember it longer.
Develop a good attitude toward the tests
The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. It can help you remember your new knowledge. The world won’t end if you don’t pass a test, so don’t be overly worried.
There are other methods that might help you with your studying. You will probably discover many others after you have tried these.
48. According to the text, a schedule may NOT include ________.
A. a list of things you have to do B. what you have to do every day
C. enough time for enjoyment D. something that will happen unexpectedly
49. A good place for study should be a place where ________.

What does it mean to be green Green is more than just a color. It also means taking special steps to protect the environment. Buying a green product is a small step everyone can take. Deciding whether a product is green, however, isn’t always easy. We need to consider the whole life cycle of the product even after it’s of no use. Here is what we may keep in mind.
The materials of a product are usually our first focus (关注). What is it made of Are there any harmful chemicals in it Green products are made of more natural materials which are free from harmful chemicals, so they can be good for our physical health.
Packaging (外包装) is important. How is a product packaged Is it over packaged We’d better choose glass, metal and paper packaging, as these can be reused or more easily recycled. We can also look for less packaging or even choose unbagged products whenever possible.
Location (地点) matters. Where was a product produced Where are we buying it Think about how much energy was used to get it to us. Try to choose local products. When it comes to food, it is a good idea to order directly from local farmer, shop at markets and buy fruits in season. Buying from stores near our houses is also a good choice, because we can go there without driving a car.
Look into what the company tells us about their product. It’s easy to say that a product is “green” or “all natural”, but the words may be too good to be true. So, much of the information about a product should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, companies try to make us believe that their products are environmentally responsible.
The greenest thing is certainly the one we don’t buy. Things like food and clothing are necessary for life. But many others are not. Better than buying is choosing to leave an unnecessary product in the store and doing without. It sends a message to the producer, keeps money in our pockets, reduces (减少) waste and keeps the planet healthy.

The second way to recycle is through writing. Look at some of your favorite articles and write either a short paragraph or a few sentences in your own words. After you have done this a few times, go back and read through what you have written, checking vocabulary functions. Don’t worry if you have made mistakes. You should learn from your mistakes.

Holidays with friends can be great fun and a good way of getting to know each other better. Planning the trip well will help you have a good time. Also it will help you to save money if you start planning earlier.

Work out how many people you will be able to plan the trip for is the most important thing. Find out how much interest there is for people to go on the trip, and then invite people who you think will enjoy themselves and who you get on well with.
Everyone will have their own idea of what they want the trip to be like, so you should have a meeting. Keep a notebook and write down things to do. If you share ideas with others, you will take a happier trip.
