When I was in medical college, I went camping with some of my friends. The season was summer; therefore, we chose to go to the seaside. After arriving there, we rented a room and left our luggage (行李) there. We finished lunch and then decided to rent a boat because the sea and the weather were beautiful.
We started to row, but about one mile out, the weather suddenly changed. Although the weather was not good, we didn’t want to quit, but finally my friends and I agreed that we should go back. We tried to change the boat’s direction, but as soon as we changed it, the oarlock (桨架) broke. So, we were unable to turn back. We could do nothing but wait for help.
After seeing the change of the weather, we shouldn’t have continued to row, but it was too late. We felt sorry for that. The sea changed a lot, the waves got very high, and the boat began to shake. Daniel started to cry; Allan got seasick and started to vomit (呕吐). Three hours passed, and nobody came to help us.
Fortunately, after five hours of waiting, two big boats came to save us and we escaped. If they hadn’t come to get us, we would have crossed the border between Turkey and Greece because the border was very close.
This story is the most exciting one in my life because we could have died, but luck was with us and we escaped.

A handshake is more than just a greeting. It is also a message about yourself. In fact, a handshake is an important tool in making the first right impression.
★ Begin with an introduction of yourself.
Before holding out your hand, introduce yourself first. Putting out your hand without a voiced greeting may make you appear nervous or rude.
★ Move your hand up and down only 2-3 times.
A handshake should be short. It doesn’t make other people feel good to hold their hands for more than three or four seconds.
★ Don’t give a “soft hand”.
A soft handshake is never a good thing. Do give the other’s hand a strong hold, but not too strong, even if he does it quite hard.
★ Forget “lady fingers”.
Be sure to use your whole hand instead of your fingers to hold the other’s hand even if you’re a girl.
★ One hand is better than two.
Don’t have a handshake with two hands. It is always better to use only one hand — your right hand — for the handshake. The use of two hands with strangers is thought of to be too personal. In fact, a two-handed handshake is called the “politician’s handshake”, because it appears unnaturally friendly when you meet people you hardly know.
★ Don’t dry your wet hand.
If you shake hands with someone whose hands are wet, don’t dry your hand on your clothing or on anything else at once. This will make the other person unhappy, because he may already know that he has wet hands. You can dry your hand after you are alone.
( )36. should go with a self-introduction when meeting people first.
A. A message B. A voiced greeting
C. A handshake D. A birthday greeting
( )37. From the passage we can learn that a handshake should .

A. made with two hands
B. given by an important person
C. made only between politicians
D. named after a famous politician
( )39. Which of the following is NOT true?
A. A handshake is more than a kind of greeting.
B. The left hand is seldom used for a handshake.
C. It’s polite for a girl to shake hands with others with three fingers.
D. When you shake hands with someone with wet hands, it’s impolite to dry the hand in front of him.
( )40. We can learn from the passage that .
A. a politician’s handshake is not welcome
B. a handshake is an unnaturally friendly gesture to strangers

D. it is friendlier to give a shake with two hands than with only one

Fortune (幸运) or disaster, we will never know which will happen tomorrow. What we can do is to live every day like it’s your last. Enjoy it and make it meaningful.
Make it your daily habit to show thanks. Show thanks for another day to breathe, to dream and to achieve the goals for your life. Hug and kiss your family and your friends. Write cards. Send positive (积极的) email communications.
Learn to laugh. E. E. Cummings once said, “The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.” Laughing and smiling are the best medicine of all illnesses. They keep a life of joy. Never be too busy to laugh, or too serious to smile. Learn to laugh. Laugh when you succeed, face problems and fail. But don’t laugh at others. Stay with fun people and don’t get caught up in your own sense of importance.
Try to improve 1% each day. Big things can result from taking small steps. As Lao Tzu once said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” It means tying to get a little closer to fulfilling your dreams and goals. As long as you are making progress, you will feel happy and the life meaningful. So try being 1% happier and healthier than yesterday.

What can we do to be a great friend? Here are some tips for you to be a great friend.
Laugh and cry together.
Laughing with a friend is the best, but sometimes crying brings you closer together, too. Don’t be afraid to be yourself with your friends. Share your true feelings—you may learn that your friends feel the same way. In this way, friends will understand each other better.
Be a thoughtful (体贴的) gift giver.
Gift-giving isn’t just for birthdays holidays—it can be a fun way of making your friends feel special on any day! But don’t buy expensive presents—be special by doing DIY! It shows you care, because you put time and thought into your gifts. Giving small thoughtful gifts, such as picking a flower for a sick friend, just might cheer him up.
Stand up for him.
It’s hard to watch someone laugh at a friend. But don’t just stand there, do something about it! You can find a clever way to make others look at your friend differently. Other times, you need to show your courage and support him—he needs you. It may be not easy, but it’s what a good friend should do.
