I remember my other home in my childhood. Almost every weekend the whole family — my parents, my brother and I — went to the tennis courts which were only a few hundred meters away from our house.
There were only two courts with orange sand and a little clubhouse that had two dressing rooms and a restaurant area with a small kitchen. Sometimes I helped out in the kitchen making sandwiches and boiling water for tea for the players.
Outside we often tried to play tennis at the wall, or we had fun staying in the sandbox, or we used a ping-pong table made of stone which was behind the house. My favorite thing was to stay on the roof and throw back the balls which were thrown over the wall or into the trees. While my brother and I stayed in the tree and pretended to be pirates (海盗) on a ship, my parents played tennis. The funniest part was when our cat ran over the courts and tried to catch the net.
When I grew up, every Wednesday afternoon I had tennis lessons with my mother who taught all the youngsters from the club. At that time I really preferred to go to the public swimming pool instead of learning how to play tennis, but nowadays I’m happy that I play tennis very well.

My favourite joke was the one played on an old workmate called James. He was always late into the office. He was told to be early the next morning (on April 1st, of course) because his team was going to hold an important meeting. Of course, when he got into the meeting room, his team head said he was April Fool. But at least it got him into work on time for a change!

My students prepared a fake (假装的) fight in the class. They started to argue in front of me. That was terrible. When I got angry, they revealed their joke plan.

Toronto police officer Mark Borsboom is famous on the Internet. A photo of him has been posted and shared on the Internet by many people.
The photo shows the officer is doing a simple, good thing—tying the shoelace (鞋带) of an old man.
Mark was on duty, helping cars leave the parking lot. As he was standing near the exit, an old man came near him. The man had no feeling in his hands because of a health problem. The old man had a long way to walk to meet his son, and his shoe had become loose (松的).
He asked Mark if he would mind tying his shoelace for him. “I didn’t think anything of it—I said ‘sure’ and tied his shoelace. I didn’t know someone had photographed it.”
The photographer was Jason Cassidy who happened to be passing by when he saw the act of kindness. Jason posted the photo on the Internet and it quickly became popular.
In fact, Mark has done many more interesting and dangerous things for his work. His normal job is catching criminals. On one hot day he spent hours sweating in a van (在小货车里淌汗). He described the task as “a million times harder (than helping someone to tie his shoelace).”

四. 任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,计10分)
阅读短文,并按要求完成46~50题。
When you’re a teenager, looking for a part-time job seems a big thing. After all, even adults with a lot of working experience have a difficult time. Before going to get your first job, it’s time to do your homework. This kind of homework is pretty simple. It is to write a resume (简历).
Teenagers often make the mistake of underestimating the value of a resume. Let’s think about this one through an example: Two 15 year olds walk into a store to look for a part-time job. The first one introduces himself to the store owner. He smiles a lot, shakes hands and tells the owner his name. The owner writes the young man’s name on a scrap (碎片) of paper along with his telephone number. The second one introduces herself to the store owner. She smiles a lot, shakes the owner’s hand and gives her a copy of her resume. Since the resume has the young woman’s name and contact information on it, she doesn’t have to worry the owner will lose a little scrap of paper with some scribbles (乱写) on it.
If you were that store owner, who would you offer the job to? A good resume will impress the employers, and separate you from the crowd. When you are trying to find a job, it’s important to stand out. So putting a resume together is a must.
