Like many people, I often get disappointed (失望的) when I hear that a book I like has been turned into a film. Sometimes I won’t even watch the film even though I love the story! Here are two main problems with the films that are adapted (改编) from books.
First, the characters are never what we’ve imagined. Even if a novel describes their appearances and characteristics clearly, the film characters are always different from those in the book.
Second, if a novel is long or filled with lots of action and events, it is generally impossible to condense it into a two-hour film without cutting parts out. If there is an event in the novel that is not something exciting and will not draw the audience’s attention, then it may be cut from the story completely. That may make some people unhappy if they have read the novel. Because they know the story is not completely shown in the film.
We may feel upset when watching a film that completely changes a story we like. But sometimes there could be an exception (例外). A film named Silver Linings Playbook, for example, is adapted from a book I love. It is changed a lot from the book. However, it’s as enjoyable as the book. So don’t stop ourselves from watching an adapted film just because it might be different. Maybe there will be one that we’ll love as much as the book.

Before the elevator was invented in the late 1800s, buildings were much smaller and less tall, as people did not want to walk up and down stairs all day. With the invention of the elevator came high-rise buildings and skyscrapers.
Some people find elevators make them a little uncomfortable because there are many people all standing close in a small room. It is best just to relax and enjoy the ride.
When the elevator doors open, stand aside and let everyone out before you try to get in. Even if you are in hurry, it’s impolite to push someone so that you can get into an elevator.
Don’t stare at (盯着看) people or stand too close. Try to keep your eyes looking ahead or you could make others feel nervous or uncomfortable.
If you have to move past people to get out of the lift, say “Excuse me, please” or “I’m sorry” rather than just push them out of the way. Others will appreciate it if you show some politeness.

We know that disabled people are seldom shown in advertisements on television. If they really are, it usually makes people feel sad for them.
It is important to find out what would be the most helpful to disabled people, instead of supposing that you have known. This may take time. Some people become impatient. Others may be too selfish to make the effort. Remember that disabled people may do things in a different way from you.
Whether disabled or not, we can all learn from each other. Disabled people do necessarily make themselves brave. They probably feel that they have to adapt to (适应) their situation (处境). They have learnt not to give up, but to keep on trying. Life isn’t always fair. Sometimes we have to deal with difficult situations. Facing a challenge can often help us to have a better understanding of ourselves and other people.

Before the 19th century, thousands of languages have been made to achieve one dream but only one made it. People were trying to find a way to end people’s communication trouble and create peace between each other. Then one day Esperanto (世界语) went into people’s eyes. It was the most widely spoken man-made language and Ludwik Zamenhof was its creator. He spent his whole life on the amazing language.
Zamenhof was born on December 15, 1859 in the town of Biatystok which is now part of Poland. He considered his native language to be his father’s Russian, but also his mother’s Yiddish. As he grew older, he spoke more Polish, which later became the native language of his children. His father was a teacher of German, and he also spoke that language often. Later he learned French, Latin, Greek, Hebrew, and English, and had an interest in Italian, Spanish and Lithuanian.
The population of Biatystok was made up of three groups: Poles, Germans and Belarusians. There were often quarrels among these groups. Zamenhof was frustrated by the many quarrels. He supposed that the main reason for this was the misunderstanding because there was no one common language. Then he began to create a new language, and hoped it would realize the ideal of peace and understanding. During his middle school days, after comparing with many languages he had known, he created a universal (通用的) language. After years of hard work, he finally created Esperanto.

This time, as everyone can guess, the rabbit ran faster. But there was a river before the finishing line. When he arrived at the river bank, he had no idea how to cross the river and had to wait. After a few minutes, the tortoise got to the river bank, too. He told the rabbit that winning or losing was not so important. He suggested the rabbit sit on his back so that they could cross the river and both win. The rabbit agreed. They swam across the river. In the end, they reached the finishing line together.
I can learn the spirit of teamwork from the story. If we all help each other, the world will become more beautiful.
