How often do you exercise A new study finds that most American kids aged 12 to 15 aren’t getting enough physical activity. The results are based on about 800 kids. As part of the study, the kids tracked and reported on their own activity levels, and took physical exams.
U.S. fitness guideline (指南) suggests an hour or more of physical activity every day. According to the study, only 1 in 4 U.S. kids get enough physical activity.
“It’s certainly worrying to see that our kids have such a limited amount of physical activity each day,” said Dr. Stephen Pont. He is an expert on children’s health.
Few kids in the survey met the requirements for physical activity that raises the heart rate and makes them breathe harder. Overall, about 25% said they got an hour of that kind of exercise every day. Kids also reported on which activities they did most often outside of school gym class---basketball for boys and running for girls.
The study found that fat teens were less active than normal weight girls and boys. Fat girls were slightly less active than normal-weight girls, but levels were similar among overweight and normal-weight boys. The study also says that the percent of fat children aged 2 to 19 is 17%, or about 12.5 million kids.
“There’s always room for improvement,” said health expert Tala Fakhouri, who was the leader of the study. She also said the results provide useful information to help with fitness campaigns such as Let’s Move, which was initiated by First Lady Michelle Obama in 2010. To encourage kids to eat right and get in shape, the First Lady visit schools and holds exercise events. She also calls on schools to offer regular gym classes.
The study also suggests kids who get physical education at school may get better grades. He said schools can do more to help by not cutting rest and giving kids more time for physical activity.
The underlined word “initiated” in the sixth paragraph probably means __________.
A. started B. stopped C. visited D. improved
29. What is the result of the new study
A. 800 kids don’t get enough physical exercise.
B. Most U.S. kids don’t get enough exercise.

30. According to the study, children with enough exercise may __________.

“Listen carefully to what I say.” the time traveller said. “I shall tell you something that you will not agree.”
“Why will we not agree ” I asked.
“Because the science and mathematics you know are not correct,” he said, “You believe there are only three dimensions (三维空间)---length, breadth (宽) and thickness.”
“There is nothing to agree with that,” the youngest member of our little group said.
“Exactly!” the time traveller answered. “But there is also a fourth dimension---time.”
“We all know about time,” another member of the group said, “Time passes.”
“I do not agree,” the time traveller said. “Length, breadth and thickness do not pass. They stay in the same place in space. We move about them. I can prove that time is the same. It does not pass. We move in time the same way that we move in length, breadth and thickness.”
None of us believed the time traveller, and we argued with him for many hours.
“If we could travel back in time,” the scientist said, “we could do things to change the future.”
“If we could travel forward in time,” the doctor (博士) said, “We could do things that change our present.”
The time traveller smiled. “It is clear,” he said, “that there is only one way I can show you that I am right. We must do an experiment. Please wait here.”
He left the room and soon returned, carrying what looked like a clock.
“This is a model of a time machine. It took me two years to make it.” The time traveller said, “I want all of you to understand that when I start the machine, it will immediately (立即) travel in time and disappear from present.”
He turned to the youngest of us. “Give me your hand.” he said.
The young man put out his hand. The time traveller took it and placed it on the machine. Immediately, there was a sudden wind, and the little machine disappeared.
I was certain this was not a trick, but the doctor was not so sure.
“Are you asking us to believe,” he said, “that the machine is now in the different time ”
“Certainly! In my laboratory, a full-size machine is almost complete. As soon as it is completed, I shall send myself on a journey through time. Would you like to see my machine ”
“Are you serious about this ” the doctor asked.
“I have never been more serious about anything,” the time traveller said, “Come.”
We followed him to his laboratory. There, we saw the actual machine, not quite complete, but large enough for a man to sit in.
31. How many dimensions did the time traveller say there are

33. What can we infer from the passage about the time traveller
A. He believed that they could move in time.

D. He would possibly send himself on a journey through time.
34. What kind of story do you think the passage is

There’s much to see under the sea, but you need to remember that light behaves differently in water than in air. The objects appear closer to you than they exactly are. You might find yourself reaching out to touch something and completely missing it.
Objects under water will appear larger than they would on the surface, too. Be careful not to tell any stories about the big fish that got away. That fish might not be so big after all! It’s just because sometimes things can seem to be as much as about 33 percent bigger in water!
What’s more, in deeper water, colors just don’t seem as bright. In fact, it looks as if some colors are missing. Remember the color of an object results from the wavelengths (波长) of light that are reflected (反射) from its surface. And light is taken in as it moves down through the water.
Swimmers wear wet suits to keep warm underwater. Let’s take a bright red, yellow, and blue wet suit as an example. These colors are hard to miss on the surface of water. Watch carefully the changes in color as you descend in the water. The red part now looks almost black because the red light wavelengths, the longest among these three colors, are missing. As you go down deeper, the same thing will happen to the yellow part and in the end to the blue part. Even at a place of about 6 to 9 meters underwater, you will look terrible, like a ghost! And you have to wait for your return to the surface to enjoy the bright colors again!
35. The underlined word “descend” probably means __________ in Chinese in this passage.
A. 上升 B. 漂浮 C. 屏息 D. 下潜
36. Which of the following is true
A. A four-meter-long fish looks three meters long underwater.
B. The wavelengths of red light are shorter than those of blue light.
C. Much water will be taken in by the swimmer deep in the water.
D. You will look ugly if you go as deep as 6 to 9 meters into the sea.
37. The best title of this passage is __________________.
A. The Standard of Color Underwater B. The Direction of Light Underwater
