Scientists say that global warming isn't the only serious problem that human beings face. At present, we 1 (threaten) by the decline and even extinction of many species. It's said that half of all insects worldwide have been declining since the 1970s. A new warning is that over 40 percent of insect species may die out in the future. According to some researchers, the number of insects 2 (become) smaller and smaller every year.
In addition,Dave Goulson, a professor at the University of Sussex, said that a lot of insects 3 (kill) these days by pesticides(杀虫剂) used for farming and gardening. He told reporters, “Three quarters of our crops depend on insect pollinators(传花粉者).If we don't take any measures, we won't even have fruit like strawberries. Actually, a large quantity of rice 4 (consume) every day. But without insects, there would not be enough crops to feed 7.5 billion people.”

It is quite clear to me, based on my research, that tropical(热带的)insects rather than polar bears could be among the first species to become extinct as a result of global warming.
Insects in the tropics are already living at the limit of their temperature range and any further increase could quickly kill them off. This would be a major disaster for tropical habitats, which rely on insects for everything from pollination(授粉)to waste disposal(处理). We have found that a rise in average temperature in the tropics of just 1℃ or 2℃ could be enough to bring about a significant and harmful effect on the survival of a wide variety of important insects. Fitness levels most likely decline quickly and there may not be much we can do about it.
Many tropical species can only accept a narrow range of temperatures because the climate they experience is pretty steady throughout the year. Now our study shows that they will be harmed by rising temperatures more than species in cold climates. Unfortunately, the tropics also hold the large majority of species on the planet.
We used daily and monthly global temperatures from the 50 year period between 1950 and 2000 and compared them with data showing the “fitness levels” of different species. “Fitness” was determined by indicators such as population growth rates and physical performance for different creatures.
We found that even moving into the shade did not help the insects. The direct effects of climate change on the organisms(生物)we studied appear to depend a lot more on the organisms' flexibility than on the amount of warming in the area where they lived.
As well as the danger to insects, the research confirms that there will be other consequences of global warming that could also have a serious impact on tropical regions, particularly on food crops. Our research focused only on the impact of changes in temperature, but warming also will change rainfall patterns. These changes could be more important for many tropical organisms, such as plants, but they are harder to predict.
1.What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 2 refer to

A.Global warming. B.Living in the tropics.
C.Killing polar bears off. D.Insects becoming extinct.
2.Why are tropical species more likely harmed by climate change
A.Because the fitness of crops they feed on is declining.
B.Because they can hardly stand up to temperature changes.
C.Because their living environment has been greatly damaged.
D.Because the amount of warming is not steady in the tropics.
3.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about
A.The significance of the research.
B.The challenge faced by the researchers.
C.Predictions about the impacts of global warming.
D.Suggestions on how to preserve tropical regions.
4.What is the main purpose of this text
A.To solve a problem. B.To give practical advice.

Some ways to help and protect wildlife
There are more than 7 billion people on Earth. Imagine what will happen if every one of us is willing to do one thing—no matter how small—to protect wildlife every day. 1 . Here are some ways to help and protect wildlife.
 2
Take a walk and see and enjoy the wildlife all around you—the birds, reptiles(爬行动物) and small and large mammals (哺乳动物). Spend more time outside appreciating, enjoying and learning about wildlife.
Speak up for wildlife
3 . Call on more people to become concerned about wild animals' survival. Share your passion for wildlife conservation (保护) with your family. Tell your friends how they can help. Ask everyone you know to stop illegal wildlife trade, using wild animals for entertainment, and much more.
Pick up litter
Picking up litter can save the life of an animal. Litter is ugly, and it's harmful. Birds and other animals can trap their heads in plastic rings. Fish can get stuck in nets. Plus, trash pollutes everyone's natural resources. 4 .
Donate or volunteer
When you visit your local zoos and nature reserves, pay the recommended entry fee. Your donations help maintain these conservation areas. 5 . Many organizations and zoos have volunteer programs. You can help clean beaches, rescue wild animals or teach visitors.
A.Go outside and connect with wildlife
B.Do your part by putting trash in its place
C.Become a voice of wildlife on social media
D.Find new ways to use things you already own
E.If you don't have money to give, donate your time

根据第二段中的“We have found that a rise...on the survival of a wide variety of important insects.”
根据最后一段中的“As well as the danger to insects, the research confirms...have a serious impact on tropical regions, particularly on food crops.(这项研究证实,除了对昆虫的威胁外,全球变暖还会带来其他后果,也可能对热带地区,尤其是对粮食作物产生严重影响。)”及“These changes...but they are harder to predict.”
根据第一段中的“based on my research”、第二段中的“We have found that”、第三段中的“Now our study shows that”、第五段中的“We found that”和最后一段中的“the research confirms that”可推断出,本文的目的是展示研究结果,故选D项。
范围,范畴 2.rely on...for... 获得…… 3.bring about导致 4.harmful adj.
7.confirm v.证实 8.consequence n.后果
长难句
原句 The direct effects of climate change on the organisms we studied appear to depend a lot more on the organisms' flexibility than on the amount of warming in the area where they lived.
“we studied”是省略了关系词that/which的定语从句,修饰先行词organisms;“where they lived”是where引导的定语从句,修饰先行词area。
2.A 主旨句。 故选A。
2.call on sb. to do sth.
4.passion n.
6.volunteer v.
8.rescue v.
1.C 根据上文“the first fireflies had appeared”和下文“on and off”可知萤火虫出现了,应该是忽明忽暗地发着光。第三段中的“shining on and off”也是提示。故选C。
2.B 根据下文“Their little lights made me smile with delight”可知再次见到它们是让人很高兴的一件事。
故选A。
run after追赶;look into调查;give away赠送;turn to向……求助。故选A。
7.D 根据下文“All the other children gathered around to 8 it shining on and off inside the bottle.”
故选A。
故选A。
14.D 根据下文“when I was a child”可知是记得小时候的事情。故选D。
15.B 根据上文“when I was a child, we all used to sing the song, ‘This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine!'”
3.gather v.
【差距词汇】 on and off 不时地;断断续续地
长难句
原句 One of the girls didn't agree but the mom explained that the firefly would die if left in the bottle.
