When I was 12 years old, I already knew that my teen years was going to be the worst years of my life. I was a total outsider, bullied(欺侮) at school. I felt completely alone in my small town.
But by starting to do volunteer work when I was 14, I turned my problem into a passion for helping others. The opportunity to practice kindness made me feel like my life had a greater purpose. The more positive might I shared, the more kindness and appreciation I received. I realized that my purpose in life would be to reach out to people, especially teenagers, and help them feel less alone.
Books were my true friends back then. I was so thankful that the authors wrote those books. The kindness they offered me with their books saved my life. One of my biggest dreams was to become an author so I could write books that would help other teenagers the way those books assisted me.
After surviving terrible experiences at school and at home, I made a choice to take the optimistic, positive road in the next steps of my journey. My dream career, one that I thought was only possible for the authors I loved, is what I am doing now. I have been a full-time author of teen novels since 2007 and am grateful for this precious opportunity to reach out to readers every single day.
Kindness saved me when I needed help the most. Even small acts of kindness can change someone else's life. You never know what anyone else is going through. But by practicing daily kindness, you become an architect of positive changes.

Expressing gratitude in your daily life sometimes is challenging and annoying. 1 Christina Costa, a psychologist who has studied the positive effects of gratitude on the brain, tells us how to be better at showing gratitude.
Start a gratitude journal. Make it a habit to write down the things that you're thankful for. Writing in the morning is a nice choice because that can set your day up best. You can do it on your phone or by hand. 2
Write a letter. Think of someone in your life who you have not had the chance to thank. Why are you grateful to those persons 3 Then send them a letter, an email, or even better, deliver the letter in person and read it to them.
If you're having trouble finding someone to thank, think small. The smaller you start, the more you'll start seeing things you're grateful for. Think of the bus driver picking you up. 4 Then he is indeed a person that you should be grateful to.
5 Look around you, and take notice of everything that makes up your environment: the sky, the cool breeze. The act of simply noticing things is a great way to make the strength of all of the unique connections in your life clear.
A.Gratitude is a precious virtue.
B.Notice the world around you.
C.Whichever way you choose, make it as easy as possible.
D.Think of a specific moment when they helped you.
E.But experts say that it doesn't have to be that complicated.
F.Maybe he's really nice or waits for you for a minute.
G.Do you still remember the moment when he helped you

Part 2 Discovering Useful Structures &Listening and Talking
in a whisper小声地;低声地。故填in。
故填into。

根据第一段第一句“When I was 12 years old, I already knew that my teen years was going to be the worst years of my life.(当我十二岁时,我已经知道我的青少年时代将是我一生中最糟糕的几年。)”和第二句“I was a total outsider, bullied at school.” A.
根据第二段第二句“The opportunity to practice kindness made me feel like my life had a greater purpose.(做善事的机会让我觉得我的人生好像有了更大的目标。)”和最后一句“I realized that my purpose in life would be to reach out to people, especially teenagers, and help them feel less alone.(我意识到我的人生目标将会是帮助人们,特别是青少年,帮助他们感觉不那么孤独。)”
根据第三段最后一句“One of my biggest dreams was to become an author so I could write books that would help other teenagers the way those books assisted me.(我最大的梦想之一就是成为一名作家,这样我就可以写书来帮助其他青少年,就像那些书曾经帮助我那样。)”
根据最后一段第二句“Even small acts of kindness can change someone else s life.(即使是小小的善举也能改变别人的一生。)”和最后一句“But by practicing daily kindness, you become an architect of positive changes.(但通过每天做善事,你会成为积极改变的缔造者。)” “Treat others with kindness in daily life.”
感激;欣赏 3.reach out to sb.
4.optimistic adj. 职业,事业 6.be grateful for...感激…… 7.go through 经历
长难句
原句 My dream career, one that I thought was only possible for the authors I loved, is what I am doing now.
My dream career is what I am doing now。what I am doing now是what引导的表语从句;one that I thought was only possible for the authors I loved作My dream career的同位语;one后的that引导定语从句,修饰先行词one;I thought为插入语;I loved为省略了关系词的定语从句,修饰先行词the authors。
根据设空处后面的关键信息“Look around you, and take notice of everything that makes up your environment”“The act of simply noticing things”可知,本段主要讲的是注意你周围的世界。
递送;发表 6.in person 亲自 7.pick sb. up (开车)接人;让人乘车 8.take notice of注意;察觉 9.make up形成;构成;组成 plicated adj.
长难句
原句 Christina Costa, a psychologist who has studied the positive effects of gratitude on the brain, tells us how to be better at showing gratitude.
句中a psychologist...on the brain作Christina Costa的同位语;其中,who引导定语从句,修饰先行词a psychologist;how to be better at showing gratitude是“疑问词+不定式”结构,作tells的直接宾语。
3.A 根据下文“instead they gave one to Tinky”可知,Tinky的朋友们没有归还这些贺卡,反而还给了她一张。故选A。
4.C 根据上文“She got excited with that magic greeting card”可知,那张神奇的贺卡让Tinky很兴奋,所以她决定不告诉任何人关于这些偷来的贺卡的事情。
根据第7题后面的“I love you, my dear teacher! You re so beautiful! Happy New Year!”
8.C 根据上文“Her teacher didn t expect it from her”可知,Tinky的老师没想到能收到她的贺卡,因为孩子们往往只会给他们自己的朋友送贺卡。tend to do sth.
9.B 根据上文“Her teacher didn t expect it from her”可知,Tinky的老师没想到能收到她的贺卡,因此当收到贺卡时,她很惊讶。
12.B 根据下文“what if her teacher came to know that it was a stolen card”可知,然后Tinky想到了要是她的老师知道这是一张偷来的贺卡该怎么办。故选B。
13.A 根据下文“Knowing what had happened, the teacher”可知,老师知道了事情的真相,Tinky告诉了她。故选A。
