The success of Blue Origin's space tourism flights has caused concerns among the public. Many say it is a rich person's game that is unnecessary when Earth badly needs help.
For Jane Smith, co-founder of Space View, the industry is not preventing Earth from help, but helping its residents better understand their world.
“Space exploration has played an important role in forming our understanding of our planet,” Smith said in an interview. “The most downloaded image in history is Earthrise that was taken in 1968 by Apollo astronauts as they circled the moon. Taking the photo was not on their schedule of activities but they were so struck by the scene that they rushed to record it. That one photograph helped mankind to see Earth as a planet in space, and inspired an environmental movement.”
Space View, founded in 2019, is a firm using a giant balloon to send humans into the stratosphere (平流层). It is designing a luxurious capsule(豪华太空舱) that fits six passengers, who can relax in seats or enjoy a snack while flying 20 miles above Earth.
Smith explained that eventually, millions of people would have exciting space experience. Tickets for a ride through Space View currently cost $125,000 a seat, but Smith said the “long-term vision is to bring the price down significantly”. “A ticket price of, say, $30,000-$40,000 will make the space trip affordable to many millions of people,” she added.
When asked about the public comments, Smith answered, “When people visit space and experience our Earth from that fantastic point, they connect deeply with our planet and the singular human family that inhabits it. It broadens their perspectives(视角) and they return with a deepened understanding of social and environmental causes.”

Gardening 380 Kilometers Above Earth
Astronauts have to go through physical, psychological, and technical training. They also go through training in how to care for plants. These “astronaut gardeners” share their work and living space with plants.
Taking seeds and plants along on a trip isn't a new idea. As space trips become longer, it will be necessary to grow food in space. 1 Because of this, it's not practical to send everything needed for a long journey, only to be used once and thrown away.
Plants can have many uses on a space journey. They can provide more fresh things. 2 Also, plants can help to make air quality better because they produce oxygen. They can improve the quality of the air inside the spacecraft—the only air the astronauts can breathe.
3 Due to the lack of gravity in space, the oxygen that the plants produce stays around the plants. This can actually kill them, so fans are needed to circulate the air. Without gravity, roots don't “know” how to grow down, leaves don't “know” how to grow up, and water doesn't easily travel up from the roots to the leaves. 4 Besides, soil is too heavy to send into space, and special liquid gels (胶滞体) are used to help plants grow.
Scientists are also working on the plants themselves. They are trying to make plants grow more rapidly and grow with less water and light in space, and they are looking for ways to make plants more resistant to disease. 5 Imagine that deserts may one day provide lots of fresh food for local people, saving transportation costs. Similarly, plants that are resistant to disease could provide an important food supply. With the world's population now at more than seven billion, our astronaut gardeners may help discover ways to feed those billions.
A.Every plant grown in space must have several uses.
B.However, there are challenges of growing plants in space.
C.Such methods may result in improvements back here on Earth.
D.The cost of taking anything into space is about $22,000 per kilogram.
E.Specialized containers are being developed to help the plants grow correctly.
F.Astronauts will welcome the addition of fruit and vegetables to their diet of dry foods.
G.Currently all oxygen is taken aboard in tanks and then caught again so it can be reused.

Mom and I spend mornings cleaning up the dirt that blows into our house. The dirt gets into everything. It covers our clothes. We have to wash the dishes before each meal. We rarely drive our car because Dad fears the dust from the road will ruin the motor.
When my sister, Faye, and I walk to school, we wear scarfs over our mouths so we don't breathe in the dirt. On days when the air is so bad that they close the school, we stay home and help Mom put wet sheets over the windows. But the dirt always finds a way in.
Last Sunday, there was no dirt in the air, only bright spring sunshine and a clear blue sky. After lunch, Dad headed out to the field to check on the cattle. Faye and I played in the yard. The temperature suddenly dropped.
Then Mom shouted from the house, “Iris, you and Faye get inside, quickly now!” I looked to the west and saw a huge black cloud of dust. All the birds flew away. “Faye, go with Mom!” I shouted. “I'll warn Dad.”
Faye dashed to the house. The storm hit so fast; I hardly saw her climb the porch's steps. Fine sand hit my face and the day turned into night immediately. I stumbled(跌跌撞撞地走) over our bicycles left carelessly in the yard. I screamed for Dad, hoping my voice would lead him back.
The dirt and sand stung(刺) my skin like a thousand bees. I needed to get to shelter. Covering my face with one hand, I found my way to the car and opened the door. Dirt flew in with me as I pulled the door closed. Dad was still out there! I needed to help him find our car.
I found the switch(开关) for the front lights. They gave out some light, but would it be enough for Dad to see them in the thick darkness I pushed the horn(喇叭) again and again, hoping Dad would hear it. I pushed the horn until I had no more strength in my arms.
Paragraph 1:
Suddenly,Dad's face appeared at the window.

Paragraph 2:
Finally, the wind stopped and the dust began to settle.

result from意为“因……发生;随……产生”。故填from。
易错归因 本题容易误填in,原因在于没有弄清楚result in和result from的区别。 本题中hard work(努力工作)是achievements(成就)的原因,故用result from。

7.that/which 考查定语从句的关系词。

One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
Suddenly,Dad’s face appeared at the window. My heart beat with surprise and then relief. With a scarf covering his face, Dad promptly opened the door and climbed in. I couldn’t wait to throw myself into Dad’s arm, tears of joy rolling down my cheeks. “You are a little angel of intelligence. But for the headlights and your constant blowing of the horn, I might not have found my way back.” Dad started the car to keep warm, and there in the little shelter of the car, we both sat, patiently waiting for the sandstorm to pass by.
Paragraph 2:
Finally, the wind stopped and the dust began to settle. Dad and I couldn’t wait to check whether Mom and Faye were OK. Back in the house, everything was covered with a thick blanket of dust. Thankfully, Mom and Faye were hidden in the cellar safe and sound. Hardly had we seen each other when we all hugged together tightly, feeling grateful for being together as a family. Unfortunately, due to the dust our car suffered damage to the motor, but that was never important as long as our family stuck together in such seemingly never ending disasters.
