Lesson 38 Hobbies Are Fun!
教学目标
1、Aim of knowledge(知识目标)
Learn and master the following words and phrases:
confidence, postcard, outdoor
not only… but also…, build one’s confidence, work well with, take up, too…to…
2、Aim of ability(能力目标)
Enable students to talk about their hobbies.
3、Aim of emotion(情感目标)
Help the students learn to talk about their hobbies. Have a hobby and it’ll enrich your life.

a tape-recorder, slide, a multiple-media computer and a projector

Step I Lead in
Lead students to know what hobby is and talk about their hobbies.
T: Did you have a good time on the weekend
S: Yes!
T: Well, Tell us what you did
S: I went to swim with my father.
S: I read some novels at home. I like reading. So I felt very happy.

T: Do you like the things you did
S: Yes!
T: Well, we call things we enjoy doing HOBBY. A hobby is not a job or a school subject. It’s not something you need to do. It’s just something you like to do. It’s fun!
Here the teacher should emphasize this word, or repeat this several times until the students really know what hobby mean.
T: Got it
S: Yes!
T: So, hobby is…
S: Things we enjoy doing in our spare time.
T: You got it! What hobbies do you have, boys and girls
S: My hobby is fishing.
S: Watching TV is my bobby.
S: My hobby is making the model planes.
S: Swimming and skating are both my hobbies.
T: Great! Your life must be very colorful and interesting.
Step II Listening
Get the students to listen to the tape and get some basic information of this conversation.
T: Listen to the tape and answer the questions on the slide.
1. What types of hobbies are mentioned in the text
2. What new hobby do you like Why
Sample answers:
1. Collections, outdoor activities, games, arts.
2. ….
Step III Reading
Ask the students to read the dialogue. Explain some language points to help them have a further understanding of the text.
Language points:
1. not only…but also…的用法
用于连接两个表示并列关系的成分,着重强调后者,其意为“不仅……而且……”。如:
She not only plays well, but also writes music.
她不仅很会演奏,而且还会作曲。
说明:若连接两个成分作主语,其谓语通常与靠近的主语保持一致。如:
Not only you but also he has to leave. 不只是你,他也得离开。
若连接两个句子,not only 位于句首时,后面的句子要倒装。
如:Not only you but also he has to leave. 不只是你,他也得离开。
Not only did he speak more correctly, but he spoke more easily.
他不仅说得更正确,而且讲得更不费劲了。
2. too…to…太……而不能
too…to…句型是简单句,常见的有两个句型:
too+adj./adv.+to do sth.这是too…to…式结构的最基本的句型,too+形容词或词,too=more than enough表“过分之意”,to后跟动词原形,一起构成动词不定式短语作结果状语。如:
My brother is too young to go to school.我弟弟年龄太小,不能上学。
【拓展】too...to...可以与...enough to...和so...that...转换。
与...enough to...转换时,enough 前的形容词、副词须是too后面形容词、副词的反义词,并使用否定句式。与so... that...转换时,that 后面的从句要用否定形式。
如 :The girl is too young to go to school.=The girl is not old enough to go to school.
=The girl is so young that she can’t go to school.
这个女孩太小,还不能去上学
【注意】在too...to...结构中,当to 后面的动词是不及物动词时,其后所跟的介词不能省略。
如:The room is too small to live in . 这房间太小了不能住。
She is too hard to deal with . 她极难相处。
3. take up开始从事此外,take up 还可表示“占据”,既可以指时间上的“占据冶,也可以指空间上的“占据”。
如:Take up a new topic.开始一个新的话题。
The big clock takes up too much room. 这个大钟占的地方太大。
短语take up…as a hobby意为“把……当作一种爱好”。如:
The lady took up dancing as a hobby in her sixties, and she is really good at it now.
这位女士在六十几岁时把舞蹈当作一种爱好,现在她已经非常擅长跳舞了。
【归纳】由take 构成的常用短语
take away 拿走;取走take turns 轮流
take back 收回take down 取下
take care of 照顾;照料take off 脱下;起飞
take place 发生take out 取出,除掉
Step IV Project
Get students to talk about their hobbies in groups of four according to Project. And then ask some groups to act their dialogues out.
T: Who can tell me what is a hobby
S: A hobby is something we enjoy doing. It is not a job or a school subject. It is not something we need to do. It’s just something we like to do. It is fun and interesting.
T: Exactly! Next, work in groups and talk about your hobbies.
Sample dialogue:
A: Do you have a hobby
B: Yes, I like skating and singing.
C: I like playing basketball and baseball.
D: Sorry, I don’t have a hobby.
B: Would you like to have a hobby
D: Yes, I’d like to have a hobby. I plan to collect some stamps.
A: Do you like to built model cars or make toys, C If you have, bring your hobby to school and show it to our classmates.
C: I like to build model cars. I have made 6 model cars. I will bring them to school tomorrow.
A&B&D: We are looking forward to your cars.
Step V Homework
1. Do exercises in PPT and Let’s Do It!.
2. Write a passage “My Hobby”

My Hobby
Different people have different hobbies. For example, someone likes reading, someone likes swimming and someone likes collecting and so on.  
  I used to read books and draw pictures because by reading books I could learn many funny things. But now I don't like it. I can only learn from books. I couldn't get knowledge from others. I need a change. Traveling is my favorite hobby now. But I can't go traveling a lot. I can visit many different places of interest by traveling. I can learn a lot about people, places and history .It's very interesting. What is your hobby Let's share with each other!  
  I have many good friends. They all have their hobbies. Ann studies very hard. So her hobby is book reading. Tony loves labour, and his hobby is gardening. He usually plants flowers and trees in his yard. Judy is a quiet girl. She likes knitting. She always knits some sweaters for her dolls. We have different hobbies, but we are good friends.  
  I love traveling. I have great fun in traveling
教学反思
通过引导并组织学生谈论爱好,增强了学生彼此之间的相互了解。师生之间、生生之间的互动和交流,增强了彼此间的感情,学生的学习兴趣得到了激发,参与学习的热情高涨,课堂发言积极,使学生的英语口语得到了充分的练习,培养了学生广泛的兴趣爱好。因此,在平时的教学中教师要特别注意导课这一环节,通过学生感兴趣的话题入手,想方设法调动学生的学习兴趣非常重要,如猜谜语,做游戏,对话表演等。“兴趣是最好的老师”他直接关系到整个课堂教学是否有效。
