be born “出生于” bear – bore -- born
I was born in a beautiful village.

seven and a half years = seven years and a half
one and a half years = a year and a half
one and a half hours = an hour and a half

return: come back “回;返回” 不及物动词
return to + 地点
He has returned to Paris from London.
return: give back to “归还;放回;送回” 及物动词
return sb. sth. = return sth. to sb. 把……归还给……
Yesterday he returned the book to the library. =Yesterday he returned the library the book.
昨天,他把书还给了图书馆。
4. When I was in Grade Six, I played for the junior high basketball team.

在……球队里,介词要用 on。
Georgia plays basketball on the school basketball team.

5. The game was almost over.
almost adv. “几乎;差不多”
Dinner is almost ready.
She has almost finished her homework.
be over adv. “结束;完结”
By the time we arrived the meeting was over.
[辨析]almost 与 nearly
这两个词意思接近,肯定句中可以换用;一般说来,almost 的差距比 nearly 小,因此,在差一刻开午饭时,可以说:It’s nearly lunch time. 快开午饭了。
在差5分的时候,可以说:It’s almost lunch time. 马上要开午饭了。
almost 能和 never, no, none, nothing, nobody, nowhere, too 等连用而 nearly 则不能。
That was almost too little.
那几乎太少了。
almost 和 nearly 都可用在行为动词的否定式之前。
He almost (或 nearly) didn’t hear what I said.
他几乎没听清我说了什么。

score n. “(比赛的)分数”
score v. “(比赛中)得分”

pass sb. sth. =pass sth. to sb.
把某物传给某人
He passed the ball to Li Ming.
=He passed Li Ming the ball.

8.play for...的意思是“为……效力,为……打比赛”。

He is playing for the National Team. 他为国家队效力。

would like to do sth. “想要去做某事冶,相当于want to do sth. 。
注意would like 无人称和数的变化。would like 的常用搭配还有:would like+sth. “想要某物”;would like sb. to do sth. “想要某人做某事”。
如::He would like to buy a new computer. 他想买一台新电脑。
They’d like to meet their teacher. 他们想去看看他们的老师。
The teacher would like us to study in the classroom. 老师想让我们待在教室里学习。
