She is one celebrity who is very active on Twitter. So when a single dad named Matt Burke sent her a message thanking her for the series, she noticed. Her series had helped strengthen his relationship with his 9-year-old daughter Bailey.
He included a link to his article titled Being a Broke Parent. He explained how he hadn’t found a level of financial stability that allowed him to pay bills on time and take his daughter on more activities and events. The family also doesn’t have the Internet or TV, which means there’s no “digital babysitter” and he has to rely on his own creative ways to bond with his daughter. Since he received the series, the main thing that has occupied them these days is reading books together.
Burke admits that he thought he was “too cool” for the books when they first came out and he was in his twenties, but he’s loving reading them now. “We switch off chapter by chapter reading them out loud, ” Burke explains.”This not only allows her to get more used to reading aloud in front of someone, but it gets me directly involved in something she loves, and it gives me the chance to be very dramatic when I read my chapters and bring myself into the characters in the book, which has proven to be a ton of fun.”
After hearing Burke’s story, Rowling said how honored she was when Harry Potter was a part of his family’s life and offered Burke more books. Besides, people are also offering to send Burke more books as gifts. For Burke, this experience, far more than gifts, will be what he treasures.

Alibaba Cloud and the Hangzhou city government announced the launch of ET City Brain 2.0, a cloud-powered and AI-driven urban traffic-management system that aims to increase the city’s efficiency.
After over two years of testing in Alibaba’s home base, ET City Brain has become the new infrastructure (基础设施) for Hangzhou, with a total coverage of 420 square kilometers in area, including over 1,300 traffic lights. Over 200 traffic officers are connected via mobile phones, enabling them to receive real-time alerts on any traffic-related emergencies.
In version 2.0, the system will optimize the city’s firefighting abilities by providing key information to firefighters, such as water pressure, the number and position of fire hydrants (消防栓) in a given area, the location of gas pipes and other details they need to know. The information is instant, making the entire firefighting process faster, safer and more accurate.
City Brain gives meaning to data. By using AI and advanced algorithms (计算程序), City Brain is able to analyze a large amount of data and turn them into useful information in real-time speed.
As a result of City Brain’s ability to predict traffic flow, detect accidents and provide instant feedback, Hangzhou has dropped from 5th to the 57th on the list of China’s most congested cities. Hangzhou is probably the only city that can tell you how many cars are on the street at any given time.
In the case of medical emergencies, City Brain is able to change traffic lights, so emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire trucks can head to the scene without interruption, accelerating their arrival time by 49%.
Dr. Wang Jian, head of Alibaba’s Technology Steering Committee who invented the term “City Brain”, said the system is designed to empower a city to act quickly and directly. It is more than just about traffic management. It’s really about how to make city more livable at a time of shrinking natural resources around the globe. “It is a matter of sustainability, while using as little natural resources as possible,” Wang said, “This is just the beginning.”
(28)What benefit will ET City Brain bring
A.Less traffic jam. B.Lower crime rates.
C.Efficient government. D.Improved medical care.
(29)Which of the following functions of the City Brain is NOT mentioned in the text
A.Predicting traffic flow. B.Giving quick feedback.
C.Changing traffic lights. D.Handling traffic accidents
(30)Which of the following best explains the underlined word “optimize” in Paragraph 3
A.Practise. B.Better. C.Operate. D.Emphasize.
(31)What can we conclude from the last paragraph
A.ET City Brain 2.0 is a mature version.
B.Alibaba targets environment-friendly development.
C.The government is devoted to improving the system.
D.The system can solve the problem of lack of resources.

Robots are now being employed not just for dangerous tasks, such as discovering mines or rescuing people in disasters. They are also finding application as household helps and as nursing assistants. As increasing numbers of machines, equipped with the latest artificial intelligence, take on a growing variety of specialized and everyday tasks, the question of how people see them and behave towards them becomes ever more urgent.
A team led by Sari Nijssen of Radboud University and Markus Paulus, Professor of Developmental Psychology at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet (LMU),have carried out a study to determine the degree to which people show concern for robots and behave towards them based on moral principles.
According to Sari Nijssen, the study set out to answer the following question:” Under what circumstances would adults be willing to sacrifice robots to save human lives ” The participants were faced with a hypothetical (假设的) moral dilemma: Would they be prepared to put a single person at risk in order to save a group of injured persons In the situations presented the intended victim was either a human, a humanoid robot that had been humanized (人性 化的) to various degrees or a robot that was clearly recognizable as a machine.
The study suggested that the more the robot was humanized, the less likely participants were to sacrifice it. Situations that included vivid stories in which the robot was described as a merciful being or as a creature with its own understandings, experiences and thoughts, were more likely to stop the study participants from sacrificing it in the interests of anonymous (无名的) humans.
“This result indicates that our study group attached a certain moral status to the robot,” says Paulus. “One possible suggestion of this finding is that attempts to humanize robots should not go too far. Such efforts could come into conflict with their intended function—to be of help to us.”
(32)What has become a concern about robots
A.How to humanize them. B.How to treat them in life.
C.How to use them effectively. D.How to find more applications
(33)In the study the participants probably have to decide ________.
A.when to sacrifice a robot B.where to experience risks
C.which robot to work with D.what robots should be like
(34)What can be inferred from Paulus’ words
A.Humanized robots offer less help to people.
B.Humanizing robots too much may be improper.
C.Certain moral status should be attached to robots.
D.Conflicts often happen between humans and robots.
(35)Which of the following would be the best title for the text
A.Robots, A Must for Future B.Humanized Robots, A New Trend
C.Robot Saved, People Take the Hit D.Humanized Robots, Replace Human

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My father and I disagreed about my curfew (晚间在家的时间). He would say I had to be in by 9:30 on weekdays, and 11:00 on weekends, and there was no exception. One day, I took courage to first show my opinion on my curfew. I told him it made me feel like a junior high school kid. He explained that though a curfew might sound like a restriction, it was really about people looking out for one another.
The very next Friday after that exchange, my dad and I had tickets to see our own town’s professional football game. On that day he was driving his car to a nearby city to meet some major clients and told me that his getting home and our leaving for the game would be tight.
To make sure we could move off the moment he came back, I got everything prepared. When half an hour had passed from the time when he said he would be home, I understood that he was a little late. But then, nearly a whole hour passed. I was getting upset. We were going to miss the kick-off! And why hadn’t he phoned me and let me know he was going to be really late As I anxiously stepped the floor, another half hour passed. That was when I got really angry. How inconsiderate my father was! We were going to miss the whole game! However, when another half an hour passed, my anger turned to fear. What if something terrible had happened to my dad, like he had a sudden heart attack or was caught in an accident, or something else I began to get really worried, feeling like sitting on pins and needles. I had already called his cell phone about ten times, but there was no answer.
注意: 1.续写词数应为 150 左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
