状语从句
复合句中作状语成分的从句称为状语从句。状语从句可分为时间状语从句、地点状语从句、原因状语从句、条件状语从句、方式状语从句、让步状语从句、目的状语从句、结果状语从句、比较状语从句等 9 种。

时间状语从句
时间状语从句常用 when, while, as, after, before, since, until, once, as soon as, the minute/moment, hardly…when, no sooner… than 等引导。例如：
It was snowing when he arrived at the station.
You can't leave until you finish the work.
Be a pupil before you become a teacher.

在 no sooner…than 和 hardly...when 结构中，no sooner 和 hardly 引导的句子一定要用过去完成时，而且从句要用部分倒装。例如：
No sooner had she gone out than the telephone rang.
=Hardly had she gone out when the telephone rang.

地点状语从句
地点状语从句用连接副词 where 或 wherever 引导。例如：
Just stay where you are.
Wherever he goes, his dog will follow him.

原因状语从句
原因状语从句由从属连词 because, as, since, now that（既然）等引导。
because 引导的是最主要、最直接而且不为人知的原因，语气最强。回答用why提问的句子时，只能用 because。because 引导的从句既可位于主句之前，也可位于主句之后。

as 引导的是较为明显的原因，语气较 because 弱。as 引导的从句常常位于主句之前。
since 引导的是大家都知道的事实，其引导的状语从句也常常位于主句之前。
注意：for表示“因为，由于”时，是一个并列连词，表推测或解释，是对前一个分句进行附加说明，前面常用逗号与前一个分句隔开。例如：

He didn't go to the party because his mother was ill.
As the weather was fine, I opened all the windows.
Since we live near the sea, we can often go swimming.
It must have rained last night, for the ground is wet.
Now that you have known the truth, I needn't keep it secret.

1. 条件状语从句由从属连词 unless（除非），as/so long as（只要），on condition that(只要）等引导。例如：
You can't learn language well unless you work hard.
We should serve the people as/so long as we live.
You can use the bike on condition that you return it before Friday.

2. 在条件状语从句中，通常用一般现在时表示将来。例如：
We'll come over to see you on Wednesday if we have time.
He won’t leave unless it is fine tomorrow.

目的状语从句
目的状语从句常用 that, so that, in order that, lest（免得）等从属连词引导，从句中的谓语动词常用 may(might), can(could), should 等情态动词。例如：
Let's take the front seats that we may hear more clearly.
Come round to the window so that I can see you.
He got up early in order that he could catch the first bus.
Jim did not answer back lest his mother should be angry with him.

结果状语从句常用 so that, so… that, such…that 等引导。例如：
I didn't go early, so that I didn't get a good seat.
Guilin is so beautiful a city that thousands of visitors come to visit it each year.
He has made such great progress in English that I can't help admiring him.

引导让步状语从句的连词有 although (though)（虽然），as（尽管，虽然），even if (though)（即使），however（尽管），whatever（不管）等，例如：
We won’t be discouraged even if/though we fail ten times.
Though he was a child, he knew what was the right thing to do.
However /No matter how expensive it may be, I’ll take it.

引导方式状语从句的连词有 as, as if/though, the way that。例如：
Leave the things as they are.
We must as the teacher tells us.
They did it in a way that I had never seen before.
