much修饰比较级，相当于a lot，修饰比较级的还有a little/a bit (一点)，far (非常)，even (甚至)。
e.g. Now I feel much/a lot more confident.

2. While attending junior high, Spud tried out for the school team, but he was refused at first because he was too small.
while在此处用作连词，引导时间状语从句。当while引导的时间状语从句中的主语和主句的主语一致，并且从句谓语动词含有be动词的某种形式时，时间状语从句中的主语和be动词可省略。
